The Chula Vista Library has a unique setup with parking right next to a park and playground, which is actually pretty cool. It's a nice spot to study, read, or just hang out for a bit. The library is also shared with individuals experiencing homelessness, and most people keep to themselves. If you mind your business, they usually mind theirs. I did have one memorable study session where someone was watching very inappropriate content on a public computerdefinitely unexpected. That said, it seems more like an occasional oversight than the norm. The staff are always friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Overall, it's a solid library just come with a little awareness. read more

Came here on a weekday, it wasn't too busy in the middle of the day. This library is pretty big with lots of different sections. I loved it all!! A section for kids, teens, spanish books, fiction, computers... even bright wifi area. The building itself seems a little old and dated, but there's so many resources available. I love how CV libraries are all linked. If this particular library doesnt have a book you are looking for, but another one does, you can have it sent to the library of your choice to pick up and check out. You can search for books online if you like. More people should take advantage of all that is available at libraries like this one! read more

Went to the library to return book a pay a fee for a book that was overdue and damaged. I don't mind paying the fee, but they only accept cash. I couldn't even pay with card online. Who carries cash anymore? Staff was nice, children area was a ghost town. From what I could see only 1 computer from the kids section was in service. All of these problems are not the libraries fault but probably from a lack of funding by the city. Will just stick with the SDPL or SDCL in the future. I do appreciate Hoopla from the online library catalog. That's the only thing I really like about this library. read more

Not the same as I remember. I came into the chill vista library to find a quiet place to study. Quiet is not what it is. A gentleman is having a loud FaceTime conversation, people on their phones having long conversations, tons of homeless watching movies on their phone, and a few kids yelling. Staff turns a blind eye and ignores all the noise. There are more homeless than actual visitors. As you can imagine the smell is rough! Smell of urine is strong on chairs. Staff is very nice, but I am sure they do not want to deal with any hassle. Unfortunately, I will not be returning. read more

I didn't think I would ever have to write a bad review about a library but it needs to be done. First, there are several things to like about this library the first being the big size, lots of areas to study, wifii, various programs and friendliness of the staff. But that's where it ends. I visit this library many times but today was the last draw. If you are looking for a quiet library, this is NOT the place for you. Quite honestly, as a student myself, you can just go to a coffee shop and study and call it a day. On a daily people carry on FULL conversations, phones ring loud in this library and nothing is being done. Today a lady had a very LOUD conversation on her phone while walking around for about 5 minutes straight before the librarian even approached her. While the staff here are pleasant.. They are "too" nice to the point where they don't address the issues at hand. This library, along with some of the people, have no courtesy towards others, have loss the true etiquette of what a library emobodies and one of that is being QUIET. As a student that frequently attends your library, the rules need to be enforced because various outside sources are already noisy, that's why people go to the "library". The environment in this library is not conducive to studying or reading at all! read more

This place is pretty awesome. Aside from having a large book and movie selection they also have lots of great art work to see. They also provide free tax service during tax season. You do have to be there bright and early, but it's a huge help for people who can't afford to pay to get their taxes done. read more

Hmmm. This is a tough one. A lot of people do not silence cell phones in here for some reason. Come on kids, it's a library! There's a really cool feature on every cell phone these days called "VIBRATE," use it! It's clean and relatively quiet (except for the damn phones) here, good lighting and a little fountain who's flowing water is calming. It's new and nicely decorated with a little Wi-Fi Cafe in the back which is to say it has cafe tables, extremely slow / intermittent Wi-Fi, and has vending machines with BAD coffee. It has a good kids section with book readings and the occasional puppet show make it good for the family. It's extremely spacious but lacks a lot of desks if you want to work on a computer. Don't judge too quickly because the desks they have are well lit and have power built-in. More desks have been sacrificed for comfortable armchairs that would more likely put me to sleep than anything else. They have a small computer / Internet section and a movie section that charges you for movies (what's that about?). There are a couple of libraries in SD county that are better than this one but, in the Chula Vista system, it's likely the crowned jewel. The Civic Center branch is much older, smaller, and doesn't offer the same amenities. If you're going to head to a library in Chula Juana, this is probably the best. That being said, I'd switch it out for the Sunny Side library in Bonita or make the trek to Mission Valley. read more

This CV library was a part of my childhood. I remember coming here with my dad all the time when it was first built. I'm sure there are plenty other libraries in San Diego that are better, but, withing CV, this is the best library. And, if you were a kid growing up in the 90's in CV, then I know this place has a special meaning to you as it does to me. This branch is big and spacious. The walk in entrance always has tax forms, library and city events, free books, free magazines and contest flyer's. They do have a book store with low prices and all the money goes back to the library funds for future upgrades. They have a decent selection Cd's and a good selection on DVDs. Trust me, they have good movies varying of all genres, including documentaries. The staff are nice and helpful. Recently I made a donation of about 60 VHS movies, 35 Cd's and a few books. They will give you a tax donation form for your taxes. In the center of the building, they always have art drawings, portraits and canvases displayed from students and adults. They have plenty of computers, tables and chairs. Many of the tables and personal desks have dim lights which makes it great to study. The parking lot is big enough to always find parking. I never have trouble looking for parking. Overall, it's great library. read more

Where to start....... This library as far back as 2 years ago was well staffed, well kept and a overall good place to come and study. During this past year and especially this last month it has gone so far down hill I am amazed they remain open. I live about 2 miles away and would stop in around 3 to 4 days a week to study and get tasks I need done in a timely matter. They have not had WI-FI service for well over a week now. I called and asked when it would be back in service, the librarian proceeded to tell me (he has no clue) and the company that is servicing it will turn it back on when they deem fit! Now when they did have it on regularly it was not very good to begin with. The signal would always be poor and half of the time I had to keep logging back in. The parking lot is atrocious as well, they had half of the lot closed for more than a year for remodling and the month it was supposed to reopen went over shedule by 3 months! Now that it IS open, people from a business next door park there cars there and half of the time library patrons can't get parking! Homeless people are constantly sleeping in chairs, eating, unpacking all their belongings while leaving a huge mess. When I tell the staff they seem to not care and most times do not say anything until the 2nd or 3rd time I go back and tell them again and again! bathrooms are disgusting, dingy, smelly.........out of order more times than not, then they redirect us patrons to a small, handicapped only bathroom near the entrance. If you want a good library to study and get things done this is not the library!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

Only in Southern California do you come to a library with a driveway lined in palm trees. Today was the first time I've been to this library since high school, and not much has changed. There's plenty of books, lots of seating, some computers to access, a great kids area, and an open space with tables and chairs. It's pretty well maintained. Downside? If you can manage to pick up a Wi-Fi signal, it's probably going to be pretty slow. The water feature that was once by the entrance is now a dirt feature, and the guy standing outside swiggin' vodka at 11:00 am wasn't exactly welcoming. Overall a good place to come study, get some work done, or find something new to read. I just wish the Wi-Fi signal was better. read more

Loud, dirty, unorganized at times, and smells. I used to go here when I was younger, but I was also amazed that it was such a nice looking big library. As I grew older, I came to realize that this place isn't that great... Aren't libraries supposed to be quiet? Everyone here is talking loud and making lots of nose, shouting across rooms and halls, and answering phones. Ahh!! Cell Phones!!! I know I use my phone almost everywhere and anywhere but at least I learn to put it on silent or vibrate. And if you're going to answer your phone, be respectful of others and take it somewhere else or at least whisper. Douches. I think the only reason I gave it two stars was because it is the closest library to my house, otherwise I would take my studying elsewhere. read more

From the outside, this library looks kind of iffy considering how the exterior may look a tad worn and the type of crowd that hangs out outside of it. I am so impressed by the thought and care that has been put into maintaining this particular location. It is clean, organized, and I always see a ton of people here studying, hunting for jobs, or just reading (people still do that!?!?) I've grown up with this library and it doesn't seem like much has changed since high school. Great job! read more

This library is in an older part of Chula Vista and has a larger preponderance of disadvantaged individuals hanging out, which may make you uncomfortable. They are private rooms you can reserve for study groups or just private space. There is a very large children's book sections and they generally have a solid selection of current fiction. Many times I have come in and browsed the local artwork on the walls. The staff is is always friendly. They have a young adult computer area. My preference is the main library just a few miles down the road but this is a decent library. read more

Nice and quiet with decent books is an instant winner. Closed on mondays, but I think for the rest of the week it is open til 8pm, so I can appreciate that. The only thing I would say is that it seems a little worn down. For example, a lot of the chairs are very sunk in and the fountains that I used to know as a kid have been shut down, so it looks a little sad in a way. However, still a spot to hit up if you want to get some down time with the books. read more

Used to be a favorite as it's closer to me. But for awhile now it's been neglected and just barely started looking better. Homeless people hang out inside and out. But they replanted succulents and added dog walk which is not as nice as it could of been no where to sit comfortably for one in dog park. The addition of playing field and playground are nice hope city can keep up with care of this new park behind library or it will be just another thing that gets overlooked as newness wears out. And homelessness continues around this area sad to say. But I hear new library downtown isn't doing any better controlling homeless either. I came here to study before work the other day (I left SDSU and work in Chula Vista), and was kind of uncomfortable looking at the building from outside. Its a weird color and looks really old, sort of like an old Mexican pueblo. After walking in, however, I was pretty shocked at how nice the library was and how cool the desks were. The outlets are built-in to the desks on the side, and there are lights on top of them so you can see your work clearly and brightly. It is really quiet, spacious, and clean and it is a pretty good environment to get your work done. The reason it only receives a 3-star rating is due to the exterior (you shouldn't have a weird feeling about the place just by parking your car), the fact that I came on a Friday afternoon (not knowing how busy or loud it gets during the week), and the difficulty of trying to get into the parking lot from the street. read more

This is actually a really nice library. Kids and adults areas are far apart. Staff are nice and very helpful. Ive used their computers and mine as well and wifi is okay. Those complaining for slow connection should go to the nearby starbucks instead. read more

I went to have my taxes done for free. I originally went to retrieve the workbooks for federal & state taxes when I read on the door, sign up for free tax assistance, line starts here. I went inside to sign up and get more information. I was advised by the courteous staff that the line starts as early as 0730 in the morning on the two assigned days. The assistance is on a first come first served bases. Also the closer it gets to tax day, the earlier the line starts. I arrived around 0830 and was about the twentieth person in line. The building doesn't open until 1000am. The tax assistance was done by retired AARP individuals. I required a long form and they kindly assured me that they were able to assist me even if I had a small business. I was estatic! They had five preparers there with computers to automatically submit your return. In addition there were two knowledgeable supervisors who verified all information before the form was submitted. Every item was verified and double checked for accuracy. I was highly impressed. They were even able to take the cost of the CPA I paid last year as another deduction. I applaud the Public Library system for offering such a needed and appreciated service and for having the foresight of involving AARP. read more

Chula Vista Public Library - FREE TAX ASSISTANCE! - Libraries Near Me - Chula Vista, California

I been recently visiting this library again after many years. I used to go here as a kid all the time and still enjoy spending my time here. It is decently maintained with the exception of some dusk here and there. It has nice big open areas and lots of natural light coming in. There are group tables and individual desks to work at but no group rooms. The biggest problem is that the wifi only covers a little over half of the library and the hours are pretty limited. Other than that the only thing that bummed me out was that a section of the library by the second entrance is closed and has been closed for years. I remember as a kid they had a little patio section in the library that was outside and had a small fountain that was just amazing to sit at and read under the sun. I was sad to see that whole section is now closed off. But they do still have a super nice mural and sky lights at the far end of the children's section that you can just stare up at forever. They always have books for sale pretty cheap and get books for you from other library fairly quickly. They have a self-checkout counter which is really convenient and you can rent dvds for a few bucks a month. Like every public library it comes with some homeless folks that use the restrooms to shower up and go BM, but that comes with the territory. The library really deserves a 3.5, I just have such good memories here and still gets the job done after all its a library :) read more

Very spacious library! It is actually on of my favorite libraries that I attended because of how big and neatly arranged it is.

The Wi-Fi here is really s..l..o..w, but it's more spacious and available seating than La Mesa.
