They hung up on me twice for not speaking spanish (i do know enough to place an order, they just didnt give me the chance), before i was able to place an order for take away. A modest restaurant, that seems to be run by family/close friends, which turned out to be some of the best peruvian food ive had in New Jersey so far. I really was craving ceviche and peruvian fried rice when I stumbled on this local store on Yelp. I did have difficulty placing an order at first, but once the man realized i speak some spanish and wanted to order food, he seemed to try to apologize and took my order. When i came in for pickup i was greeted by two workers who did indeed only speak Spanish. I think they forgot to cook my order because when i asked them about my pickup, the man was startled and asked me to wait an addition 10 minutes. After waiting, i received my order and paid (cash only). As a side note, they do have two small tables set outside for those who want to dine in. Despite the issues I had with getting my food, i have to say I am very impressed with the amount and quality of food. It really took me back to food in Peru and I was so happy to have found a good local shop. We asked for the spicy ceviche mixto and arroz chaufa mixto as well. The ceviche had a very good kick and was the best Ive had in NJ. Arroz chaufa was served in a large tray and was an unbelievable portion size. It looked and tasted very home-made and definitely could serve at least 2-3 people. For the price, taste, and quality of food, i dont think you could find better in NJ. It definitely adds fierce competition to larger peruvian restaurants. I know I had difficulty ordering but I do appreciate the hustle of a family serving its community. This spot has indoor dining during covid. We ordered lomo saltado and the fried seafood platter. We got the personal sized seafood platter and the size was huge. It was served with red onions in lime and a spicy dipping sauce. Both were very delicious! And the owners were very nice! read more

This beautiful hidden gem has managed to wow my taste buds. My husband and I were looking for a Mexican restaurant because or local one was closed and we stumbled upon this beauty. The first time we went I had the mixed ceviche. Unfortunately they were out of shrimp that day so my ceviche had only fish and the other fixings but my god it was great. My husband had the steak lomo and I'm not one to care for lomo but this one was amazing! Ok so the only reason I gave this place a 4 and not 5 is because of the service. It is absolutely terrible, they gave us small plates to eat out and we ordered different appetizers and refused to give new plates. However, the food was absolutely amazing. First off let me say that the only reason I came to this restaurant was for the reviews on yelp, which are completely bogus. I am Peruvian and am fully aware of how my country's food should taste. But let me rewind and give you an idea of the entire experience. When you first walk in it appears to be a quaint little spot but the decor is reminiscent to that of a chinese store whereby the dishes on the menu are displayed across the top border of wall. Walked in and asked if we can sit anywhere and a gentleman cleaning off a table said yes. There was a total of 7 tables and all were numbered. Next, it appeared that they only have two menus because when I requested to keep one in case we decided to order more food, it was taken away once another table sat down. We sat down maybe 5 minutes before were given menus. The female taking our order seemed less than enthused to take our order. We ordered papa a la huacaina as an appetizer and my man ordered seafood fried rice and I ordered the lomo saltado. After the order was placed, the female opened a freezer that was in plain view of customers and pulled out frozen seafood. That completely turned me off because I was hoping for fresh food. The papa a la huacaina was okay 6/10. The second dish that came out was the seafood fried rice which was okay considering it was frozen giving it a 7/10. My plate took about 5 min longer and I was surprised they did not bring it out at same time. My lomo saltado lacked flavor and would give it a 4/10. After we asked for the check, and the female came back for the payment, we placed the card in the check presenter and the female said, " oh the machine is not working we are only taking cash" which we thought should have been told to us upon entering or ordering, since we did not have cash on us. We asked for the closest ATM which was two blocks away and went to get some cash. Needless to say our experience was not as great as others say and the food was mediocre. Very good discovery today! We love Peruvian food and were looking for a good ceviche. This is a no frills place for ceviche and more. The place has a very simple/old decor BUT the food is excellent quality and very authentic. We tried the ceviche and the tamales, which they make in-house from real corn.
