I had a precipitous birth (2 hours start to finish!) so I had little time to use a lot of the breathing techniques. My mother sat in on a class with me, so she was able to help center me and we matched breaths as the waves passed. The only birth preference that went right was birthing unmedicated. My big takeaways from the class were learning to advocate for myself and my baby (THAT'S HUGE!), knowing that he didn't have to cry when he arrived, and delaying cord clamping. I had the pleasure of meeting Claudia while I was attending a Functional Restoration program. She focused on mindfulness, breathing and relaxation techniques. During a session, she performed an exercise that was extremely relaxing. I decided to incorporate the technique during my children's night routine right before bed. My eleven and twelve year old loved it and slept amazing. They woke up refreshed and asked if we could continue doing it. I have taken Claudia's pre-natal since week 14 and then her post natal with my son until he was around 10 months old (and refused to stay put anymore!) but until then he just loved coming to yoga with me. I took Claudia's prenatal yoga classes at Namaste Yoga for about the last half of my pregnancy and have now been taking her postnatal yoga with my two-month-old. I can't say enough good things about Claudia. Her energy and mood are just right for these classes. Very gentle, relaxed and supportive. She takes a little time at the beginning of each class to quickly check in with each person and see how they're doing. She then tailors the class that day to include poses that seem like they would be most beneficial for them. Her adjustments are gentle and spot-on and she's always ready with modifications or alternate poses if something's not feeling right. As a new, first-time mom, I am infinitely grateful for the postnatal yoga. There are BABY HOLDERS! I can walk into this class with a fussy baby, and a smiling baby-whisperer will take him to the baby-wonderland of bouncy balls and playmats on the far side of the room. Claudia herself is a master baby-whisperer and can sometimes find the trick to calm your baby's particular brand of fussiness. It's also a great place to meet other new moms and hear about what has been helpful for them. Breast (or bottle) feeding in the class is also no big deal. Pretty much every single person will end up nursing at one point or another. You just sort of go with the flow and jump back into the yoga when you're done. If you're thinking of taking a class that Claudia is offering, do it! You won't regret it. read more

I have been taking prenatal classes with Claudia throughout my pregnancy at 7th Heaven Yoga (as this review, she teaches on M/Th 10-11.30). I have been practicing yoga for several years (mostly vinyasa and some hatha based practices) but there are moms to be from all experience levels, and all are welcome in these classes. Claudia does not assume prior yoga experience. I have benefited enormously from the prenatal yoga. Claudia's class pace works well for me, its not too slow and easy, you get a good workout, but its of course yoga for pregnant women, so its also very therapeutic and accessible regardless of how far along you are in your pregnancy. I like Claudia's teaching style, she is thoughtful and soft-spoken, but gives direct and interactive instruction. That is, she is a hands on instructor without being too in your face. I highly recommend her classes. I tried other prenatal (at Yoga Mandala and at 7th Heaven with other instructors) and found that Claudia's style and technique worked best for me. I should mention that while we do check in for a few minutes with each other, almost the entire class is devoted to yoga, not a sharing circle, which I really liked. I have been going to Claudias classes since my 16 week of pregnancy till now that I am 36 weeks. It has helped me to feel well all along the pregnancy and it has helped me to keep me fit and flexible. She is really enthusiastic about what she does and she is very committed in helping each of her students to reach their best in each class considering the different stage of pregnancy and their different physical conditions. We enjoyed taking Claudia's hypnobirthing classes, she is very informative and welcoming of any questions. She provides a very open and safe environment that makes you relax and feel like family. We felt much more ready for having a all natural birth after her classes. You walk out more prepared then before, you do exercises, meditation, paperwork, assignments, interpersonal exercises and partner training. She does a great job at explaining what happens during birth which helps to make it not so scary and helps to teach your partner too so they can get on board with a natural birth. It helped to prepare my husband but you never know how your birth is going to go and after a 18 hour birth with back labor, he was wishing we had hired a doula The classes are sometimes held at her house and sometimes if enrollment is high at another location. I think it is hard to make a bunch of pregnant ladies happy in the heat of late summer but that is the reason I couldn't give 5 stars. She does go far in trying to though!! but maybe she could use another couch and some AC. Everyone always tried to be twenty or more mins early to get the two comfortable seats and we were sadly not the winners which was hard on my back or my husbands knees. I loved going to Claudia's prenatal yoga classes because she makes sure that the majority of the time is spent actually doing yoga, while at the same time, she makes sure to check in with each individual and ensure she is addressing everyone's needs. Now I regularly attend her Mom and Baby Yoga classes which are equally great! Because of her unique "baby holding" program, you actually get to do yoga, even if your baby is fussing! My husband and I also attended Claudia's Preparation for Easeful Birth Class at Namaste yoga studio in Berkeley. I like that she included some yoga so we weren't just sitting the whole time, and my husband found the class to be very informative. He especially liked learning relaxation techniques to help me with during labor, and about the stages of labor and delivery. We ended up using many of the techniques when I actually went into labor and the information regarding the stages of labor helped him to feel more knowledgeable about what was going on. Claudia also discussed how fear and pain have only become part of childbirth relatively recently, and that the way you mentally prepare for childbirth can have a huge affect on how you deal with it when the time comes. I think the fact that I was able to have the all natural childbirth that I planned to have was in large part because of the time I spent preparing for birth during both prenatal yoga and birth prep class with Claudia. My husband and I took Claudia's hynobirthing class before our son was born. Even though we had an ObGyn we wanted to have a natural birth as much as possible. Claudia was very supportive and guided us to be calm and peaceful when everyone else was telling us horror stories about birth. As first time parents her class helped us get all the basics we needed to know about childbirth. But the main thing was to be not scared about birth but approach it as the natural thing that it is. At 8 months we discovered that our son was in breech. Claudia held a separate session with us to show me positions that would help him turn. She pointed to resources we could use and was very involved through the process. Her meditation techniques were very helpful during my delivery. She is a kind person who truly believes in everything that she teaches. Her class was also a fun social event as we bonded with other couples and did mini-potlucks. I took Claudia's Easeful Birthing class over the weekend and left feeling so encouraged, confident and actually excited about this next upcoming labor, which is a first for me! My first labor involved an epidural, pushy nurses, and it was not the experience I was hoping for. So with this second pregnancy, I went searching for options. Friends of mine in Southern California had been very successful with Hypnobirthing and I saw that Claudia offered classes around that method so I took her class and I'm so glad I did. Claudia provides a perfect balance on several topics related to pregnancy, labor, and postpartum, including the history of birth (which was fascinating), how the stigma of pain and fear during labor was created and why it's inaccurate, how our bodies chemically and physically change when we are relaxed during labor and many many techniques and tools to achieve relaxation in order to have an easeful labor experience. She also offers guidance on getting the baby into perfect position before labor, what to bring to the hospital if you're having a hospital birth, pelvic floor physical therapy, and so on. She is also equipped with a breadth of resources on related topics such as doula resources, breastfeeding resources, meditation resources, postpoartum recovery resources, etc. I feel 100% confident that I can have a natural, unmedicated labor and delivery given the tools and techniques she's taught. She herself has a very calming and confident vibe, she's authentic, easy going, kind and confident an Chiat lovely. I found myself quickly and effortlessly sharing my concerns and fears with her - all of which she addressed and helped to eliminate for me. I plan to visit her again before labor for physical therapy and again after labor for herbal healing remedies and baby massage. After experiencing a pretty traumatic birth 8 years ago, I knew that I wanted and needed something different when I became pregnant with my second child. I am so grateful for Claudia's post natal class at Namaste. We started going when baby was 8 weeks. First of all, it was a real yoga class, with wonderful stretches targeting problem areas for new moms. Claudia gives a great class, gives excellent corrections, and balances energetic poses with relaxing ones. She is supportive, nonjudgemental, validating, caring, and calming. Second, there was a baby area with multiple play gyms, bouncy chairs, boppies, and exercise balls and baby holders who, for $5 per class (a really good deal for childcare), would allow mom to take class by playing with your baby. I was definitely paranoid about child care during the early months (still am) and it was great to be able to see and hear my baby while I took class. Also, during class, you could also nurse, change diapers, and give baby to babyholder while you went to the bathroom. Finally, it was a joy to be around other moms and babies - e.g., to hear other baby gurgles that were similar and different to my own, see older and younger babies. The baby massage component was also a treat, and it's a good tool to calm baby and mom. I really enjoyed sharing this time with my baby, and it was at a good time of the day to help reset a somewhat normal schedule after baby is born. read more

Claudia's prenatal and postnatal classes were the best things I did for myself both physically and emotionally those last two months before my son was born, and the first three months after he was born. The physical aspect: She has ample experience with pre- and postnatal female bodies, and provides you with a great work out that still feels gentle and very safe. In prenatal class, the poses we did helped prepare me for labor, and made me feel strong all the way until birth. We worked on all the typical painful pregnancy spots: hips, nick, back etc, and I am sure that this is what kept me from having any physical issues during my late pregnancy. In postnatal class she helped us recover from birth and build our strength back up. My son was colicky for the first three months, which was quite an ordeal. The only break I got from holding and rocking him, 24/7, was in this class, where my son would be one of the babies that would be held and rocked by the wonderful baby holders every time. Thank you! The baby holders are lead by Kitty, a very nurturing and intuitive woman who screens the other baby holders. The emotional aspect: Pregnancy and post partum is such a crazy time, and Claudia provides such a supportive space during that time. Her gentle and understanding presence is exactly what you need during that time. We would often share what was going on with us in class, both the physical and the emotional, and her approach was always very nurturing. I can't recommend her classes enough. read more

We signed up for the course because some friends of ours had their baby using the hypnobirthing techniques and they really felt the benefit. I'm writing this belated review for Claudia's infant massage class, which I attended with my family October 2013. My wife has taken prenatal yoga classes with Claudia since week 16 of pregnancy with our first child. Now that our son is born, she takes postnatal classes with the baby in tow. The infant massage class was a 3 hour session in the same Berkeley studio that hosts the yoga class, and Claudia set up the space in a cozy and comforting way, making sure the infants had plenty of room to wiggle around, pillows to nurse, etc. Our son was about 8 weeks old when we took the class, and very fussy. Under her instruction, we were able to calm him with massage and have a wonderful bonding experience. It was so nice to see him calm and content, and be taught how to touch him in ways that were soothing. The handouts reinforced everything she taught, and also prescribed certain motions for various ailments (i.e. congestion, indigestion/gassiness). We've put them to use, and although I don't know how effective they are, it makes us feel like we're helping in some way! Now that our son is nearly 5 months old, I can say that my wife and I use the techniques that Claudia taught us every day, whether it's a quick "I L(ove) U" pattern on his chest during diaper changes, or a more extended massage with naked time and oil. It's great that our baby loves to be touched, and it strengthens the bond we have with him. We would recommend learning infant massage to everyone. read more

I am a professional ballet and modern dancer who occasionally takes yoga. Last year I injured my groin and couldn't dance in my second trimester. At that time I started exploring prenatal yoga as an alternative. i tried many teachers at Mountain Yoga and the Yoga Tree in The Mission (SF). Finally I tried Claudia at 7th Heaven and got hooked. Claudia is awesome...she is experienced, patient, caring and has a very generous spirit. Her class is organized and efficient, yet she always leaves room for requests. After delivering my 9lb son, with much success, I continued with Claudia by taking her postnatal yoga. Again, the continuation of yoga with Claudia has been wonderful. I started bringing my son at 3 weeks to class and we both love it. He is now nearly 6months and we are still going strong with the postnatal classes. The baby helpers are great and Claudia continues to support her students' journey through pregnancy and new motherhood. My body has recovered very quickly from birth (and I'm 40!) and my son has adjusted really well to being around lots of people and doing the infant massage and exercises. I am a yoga teacher and chiropractor at 7th Heaven yoga studio in Berkeley, and I have volunteered as a "Mommy Helper" for Claudia's post-natal yoga class. I was so impressed with her teaching style and demeanor that I asked her to teach a private class for my best friend's baby shower. The shower was a huge success and everyone in attendance loved Claudia. We had a mix of ladies - some had never done yoga before and others were experienced yogis, 2 of the women were more than 4 months pregnant, and we had an age range from late 20s to early 60s. Claudia was the perfect choice for this kind of event because she is so adept at handling all different types of student at the same time, which, as a yoga teacher myself, I know is not an easy thing to do. We are so happy we took Claudia's birthing class to prepare for labor and birth with more ease and confidence. Claudia is an amazingly warm and welcoming soul. We were so at ease in her presence, taking her class was like a mini retreat day. She is a wonderful listener and took time to understand what was most concerning or worrisome to us about labor. Then throughout the day she provided us with tons of knowledge and tools to best support us in our birth preferences and address our worries. We really appreciated how specific she was in training us on relaxation and comfort techniques, giving lots of resources, demos, and coaching us through as we practiced. It made it easy for us to continue to practice our favorite techniques at home. Claudia also has a wonderful way of supporting the natural birth process and instilling confidence in the ability of women and their partners to cope with the challenges of birth in a positive way. At the same time she is also supportive of individual women's choices regarding their labor, medications, and C-sections. It's easy to see Claudia's goal is to support women and partners so they feel empowered and positive about their birthing experience no matter what path the birth takes.
