I'm…read moreglad I found it because, otherwise, I wouldn't have know this studio existed, with it's unassuming location in downtown Springfield. Aine, the owner and our instructor for this first class, is great. She is super friendly, welcoming, provides great instruction and simple steps to learn. Aine is also amazingly talented, making all the moves look so fluid and easy, which is inspiring to see as I flailed around the pole! I consider myself fit, working out 5-6 days a week, but that doesn't prepare you for pole. It is a whole new test of strength, flexibility and coordination (and I'm pretty lacking in the last two of that list). I look forward to trying more classes soon--Polemic recently adding a twerking class! Ha, can't wait for that!

However, even in the more challenging classes, I've never been embarrassed to take things at my own pace. I'm 69 - doing three to five days a week aqua-aerobics for three years, walking two x a week for six months with a friend. She suggested Gentle Flow start at noon in their studio on 12th and try for THREE WEEKS the starter package with unlimited sessions for $45. I'm going this Friday 1/2 to meet an instructor early before the noon class to tell her my exercise and medical history for areas to be careful!

I left there each time feeling mentally, spiritually and physically balanced and lit up! I could never quite keep up with the teachers but they never required any level of ability & I just did what I could. They have a very calming & reverent feel to the class, very much inspiring me toward self-improvement in all areas of life. The only reason I didn't give Yoga West 5 stars is that they started getting kinda pushy with me, trying to pressure me into joining their religion. It was actually really surprising to me that such inspiring people would be trying to push a religion. I respect their practice very much, but pressuring people to practice it with them seems so far from their style, I just didn't get it. Welcoming anyone who shows interest in one's religion is beautiful but a pushy and assuming attitude just doesn't seem befitting of one who carries themselves as a teacher of truly self-enriching practices. It started feeling uncomfortable & so I stopped going. Unfortunate, since as I mentioned the actual yoga classes were amazing and I would have loved to continue striving to be able to keep up with these people! But at any rate, I'll always remember these classes and teachers and carry that inspiration with me.

I have also attended prenatal classes when I was pregnan, sound meditations, workshops and other gatherings they offer to this community. I happened to be the only Asian in her class and I happen to be a yogi after many years' practice so I can do all the simple poses. She became very jealous and defensive. After class, she walked to me and my Caucasian husband and said: we white people are just not that good with stretching and bending because our civilization made us sit on a chair all the time.

I was nervous as I'm new to yoga, I'm plus size, and I'd never done hot yoga at such a high temperature. But the instructor was incredibly helpful, kind, motivating, and knowledgeable. I pushed myself outside my comfort zone to try something new and I'm so glad I did. I felt very welcome and accepted.
