We send our daughter to CHA. She entered into 1st grade this year. We've been paying close attention to how San Diego is handling the reopening of schools and can confidently say CHA did everything right. CHA was one of the few schools diligent enough to get clearance to open. From what I hear, this was no small accomplishment. Absolutely the warmest, most welcoming place for my 4 year old. Teachers are the sweetest, accommodating to each child's need. Very clean with superb outside play area. The preschool has very poor communication with parents. They do not let you know about your child's day (eat, nap, bathroom, incidents, etc.). The school has cliques and will treat you like an outcast if you're not a part of one of them. Overpriced considering the very short hours they are opened and many holidays they are closed. My experience was it was all about the money and not about the children. Also made my one year old get COVID test monthly, which I felt was a bit invasive for a child so small, especially considering the teachers did not wear masks half the time. They would also send my child have with injuries very frequently. read more

When all SDUSD schools are closed, the Chabad Hebrew Academy is OPEN his door to welcome students back to campus. The commitments & dedications in education of CHA rendered to the kids are second to none!! The inclusion culture in CHA makes us feel warm, and welcomed right away. My son felt sad at beginning when he learned he couldn't go back to his old school this year. While after 3 days at CHA, he even told me he can continue staying at the school after COVID-19. Everyone at CHA from teachers, staff, administrators to the security guards are all kind, nice, and happy. I know I made a right decision for my son. We cannot say enough thank you to all the staff at CHA for your love, dedications, and support given to the kids and families in these challenging times. You are our HEROS!!! read more

We have two kids enrolled in the school, first grade and preschool. They both are having an amazing time. The school is also going above and beyond during Covid by separating the class, learning outside, frequent sanitizer use, as well as temperature checks in the morning. Choosing to send my kids to private Jewish school was a big decision and I did a lot of research before selecting CHA. I literally looked around the world for a school where we could have it all... a world-class, progressive education AND a school that would instill the values and the sense of Jewish identity that my wife and I treasure so much. We wanted both and we were not prepared to compromise on either. We ended up moving to San Diego (from outside of the US) so the our kids could go to CHA. That is how exceptional this school is. From our first visit you could see this wasn't an average school. The campus is breathtaking. It's vibrant, open, full of light,.. It is built for kids to love and they do. Every detail, from the way the classrooms are set up to how each each class in broken up into multiple groups per topic is carefully put together to draw out each individual child's real potential. The atmosphere is open and welcoming and the student body is diverse yet all share a passion for being Jewish and learning. I can go on and on but I won't. I will just say that we are very thankful that we found a school where our kids can learn and grow on every level (from academics to ethics) and where we feel at home. read more

Just before my son was 12 weeks old, a friend in our playgroup recommended CHA's infant program. I told her that we are not so religious and are reform, so it wasn't for us. She said that's ok - it's open to everyone and is a very loving environment on a beautiful campus. I took a tour and saw that she was right - caregivers, teachers, and administrators are of different religious backgrounds and cultures, and the school (from infant through 8th grade) is on a beautiful and modern campus in woodsy Scripps Ranch (they recently installed solar power). Nearly 5 years later, our son is about to graduate from CHA's Montessori preschool and is very ready for kindergarten both in terms of academics and maturity even though he won't turn 5 until July. When I've attended the parents' nights each year, I've been blown away by what preschoolers there are learning - not only math, etc, in a project oriented environment but also life skills like sewing, cleaning up, and hands-on "jobs." His teachers have been remarkable - loving and nurturing, and he has really loved them. At age 2.5, he came home singing the hebrew alphabet, and knows words, songs, prayers and all about the holidays- things I didn't begin learning until I began Sunday school at my son's current age. Many of his teachers are from different countries as well as many of his classmates' parents, and many speak hebrew and other languages. Initially I was concerned that the school would be too religious for us. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the welcoming culture that is Chabad with no pressure to participate in anything more than we wanted to. We attended a few services and some activities at school and still participated at other congregations. We've made great friends with other CHA parents and absolutely love the sense of community there from people of various types of jewish backgrounds. I strongly recommend the incredible preschool at CHA. My children have been at the CHA preschool for several years, and we have been extremely pleased with both our experience with the school and our children's experience as students. They offer a supportive and communicative environment for parents, the administrative and teaching staff always have made time to discuss my children's progress with me and to listen to my ideas or concerns. From a religious perspective, they focus on forming a strong Jewish identity in the preschool and it has proven to be a beautiful learning experience for my children. I'm afraid I have seen quite the opposite of Emily's review. In fourth grade they are about 1:24 kids per teacher. Perhaps Emily's child is in pre-school? At School system is split into Teacher + Rabbi pairing, the experience we had with the teachers was great, yet the Rabbis didn't make Torah fund of the children at all as their skills and attitude seems to be two centuries ago. The biggest issue I found with the system is with the atmosphere and the kids attitude towards one another. We experienced so many cases they were annoying, bullying and search for weaknesses in other. It seems much more hostile then any public school we experienced. Warning to the parents, if you try to leave in the middle of the year they charge for the rest of the year, be warned. read more

We've been at CHA for over 3 years now having come from top east coast private schools beforehand (full disclosure: I sat on the board of one.) Multiple friends of ours are in other local private or jewish day schools and we've gained a fairly extensive understanding of the varying quality and programming of education offerings in the region. Unreservedly, we can share that CHA has one key component that is unique to them, bar none. Of course we expect brilliant academics, tolerant Jewish values and balanced extra curricular offerings. As well as great teachers, nurturing environment, individualized and advanced course work, college prep, long lasting relationships, cutting edge campus, great leadership and a diverse student body. CHA gets a check for each of these factors. The one factor that makes it truly unique is the overall school culture of a commitment to constantly learn, grow and improve. This culture is not just at the top but all the way through teachers, students and staff. They are never willing to sit on their laurels and enjoy the praise rather, they consistently seek to improve student learning and achievement and the student and family experience. I'm an alumnus and my daughter is now in her third year. We're not a practicing family. Teachers show tremendous warmth, caring, academic rigor and differentiation for each child as well as a multitude of opportunities available. Middle School is a particular highlight where they have the perfect balance of opportunities, athletics and classes in a supportive and personally caring environment. One already graduated and when he got to high school he was well prepared. He was prepared academically on both Judaic and secular subjects. CHA is phenomenal! The moment my husband and I walked through CHA with Shelly we knew this was the place for our daughter. I had heard so many good things about CHA I had to check it out myself. Being of Non- Jewish descent, I wasn't sure how we were going to be accepted. We were instantly welcomed and made to feel welcome. My daughter is in her first year of school and I am very impressed with what CHA has to offer! The student:teacher ratio is amazing! My daughter and her fellow peers get a lot of personalized attention, because the student:teacher ratio is so low. She can learn and excel at a faster rate, because the teachers have more time to invest into each student. Another observation I have made is that the teachers don't just jump into the academic side of teaching. They first take the time to teach your child the behaviors of "How to Learn". They teach them how to sit patiently and focus in order to be able to take in what is being taught for their lesson that day. Another thing that I have observed is that the teachers also pay attention to peer interactions as to ensure a safe and optimal learning environment. This school is not only amazing, because of the students and teachers, but it is amazing as a whole community. There is a fun upbeat atmosphere as you are entering the school grounds with lively music and one of the staff members greeting you everyday with a genuine smile. The entirety of the staff are invested into your child and so are the parents that are involved with extracurricular activities such as the PTO. I really can't say enough good things about CHA. I had to go back to work when my first born was 4 months old. I could not have left him in a more warm and welcoming environment. He loved it and I loved it! Two years later we had twins and when they turned one I enrolled both of them without even looking anywhere else as I knew they would be in the best care. Six years later, all three kids are still there. First grade and two at pre school. The preschool is outstanding and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an infant class or preschool. Kindergarten was an amazing experience both for us as parents and for our boy. The ratio of 4 teachers with 21 kids is almost never heard of. First grade is also amazing... Great teachers and the teacher to student ratio is noteworthy. I would highly recommend CHA to anyone looking for Judaic studies. There is great balance of Judaica, general studies, etc. The warmth of the staff, the parents and office team is amazing. We hope to stay for many years to come. read more

1/2 day is spent on religion. Not much Arts. Closed door policy. Good secular teachers. No counselor, not permanent art teacher, kids love science lab. Parents ask for more and not accommodated. Need a great principal like jaffe who stays. High turn over of staff. Some dedicated teachers, but keep the good ones. Use parents skills and education to help school. Keep good academic principal to run school. Decrease amount of time Jewish studies so more time to learn. Bring together school and parents. Strong academic leader. read more
