Yes indeed my friend, this is a Charminar, but not like the others. Instead of the usual design the owners have taken the site of the old Primo's and transformed it into an industrial, modern, fantastic little restaurant, that looks nothing like a Charminar. The manager informed us they've been open for twelve days and they took a big risk with this venture: a hot pink feature wall with a cow on it? Yeah they did, and it paid off. The enormous lamp hanging in the centre, the distressed white tables and black seating, the menu built into a huge scroll on the wall and best of all, the cow, it's a great! It's about time. Reflecting the open air (although the cafe isn't) hawker food type, you'll find most of the Malaysian hawker food on the menu. From the spicy and super delicious nasi lemak as Chloe mentioned to the various types of roti canai's, Malaysia just got a bit closer on the map of SA! I checked out their summer menu and all I can say is..just like home! Ice kacang ( a sweetened dish with ice shavings), cendol and the famed teh tarik is a winner!! There's one thing you'll noticed when you dine there is that the size of the table. It's wide enough for 2 pax only, but there's 4 chairs, so it felt rather squeezy while dining there. Ordered Salt and pepper Pork spare ribs with rice and Beef Chow Mein(Fried noodles) today. The salt and pepper spare ribs tasted a bit salty, no, really salty. And although the overall taste of the Beef Chow Mein tasted fine, the cabbage in the dish does seems a bit uncooked, maybe the size of the cabbage was not chopped fine enough. I might not visit the place again, but go ahead, ymmv.

Pressed in glass and hung all over the room are photos of the dishes taken with a dark digital camera, and printed out little explanations of each dish. And of course, everything is crazily cheap and delicious. One of my favourite things to get here are the vegetarian spring rolls. I know that sounds boring as all hell - but these spring rolls are different. They aren't deep-fried, they are fresh. Crunchy bean sprouts, fresh basil, carrot, cabbage and a light peanut sauce held together in a thin crepe like wrapper. Delicious. They do all the standard dishes well - Singapore Noodles, Haianese Chicken, Kway Teow, Chilli Chicken and Beef Rendang. Apparently their laksa is one of the better ones in town too. Malacca also do a few more unusual things - Kapitan (or captain) Chicken, an authentic boneless Malaysian chicken stew. Service is polite and fast.
