They have two menus: full-service menu with everything you'd expect from apps and salads to entrees, and 2-sided 1-pager event menu (originally introduced at the onset of the pandemic) and now used when the kitchen is super busy. All the food I've had here I great, as can be said by my friends also. On our last visit we ordered mozzarella sticks and fried macaroni cheese balls for the table - both came in large portions. My friends also ordered shrimp skewers that they said were quite worth the wait and the shrimp were all decent sized (I can't recall their name), fries which were the perfect crispness, steak au jois sammy which my other friend really enjoyed. Get there early for bucket specials on your favorite beers! They serve a wide array of liquor, cocktails, Jell-O shots. The building is huge and one half is just a pool hall while the other half, where you see bands, has a few pool tables on the perimeter. The servers have always even friendly, but you'll want to keep track of your tab because it does get hectic at times and they've made mistakes. Will I return? Have been several times and will come back!

To our surprise, it was quite crowded for a weekday lunch, but we were promptly greeted by the bartender as soon as we walked in. The atmosphere has a charming, old-school bar vibe but comes with a very strong smell of smoke. There is a $25 credit card minimum, which is manageable for two people sharing a bill but could be a challenge if you're dining solo unless you order multiple drinks or some appetizers. The service was quick, and our food arrived promptly. The chicken tenders and tots were incredibly hot and fresh, but the BBQ burger was a bit underwhelming--it was simply a burger with BBQ sauce. Perhaps we misread the menu and could have added more toppings. We opted to eat outside to avoid the heavy smoke smell. The covered patio area has a quirky charm with its mismatched old tables, and it looks like a fun local hangout, especially with the live music area. Overall, the food was good, but we'll probably stick to takeout in the future.

What really stood out to me was the service we received! I really appreciated not being rushed through our meal. The fact that they actually let you order your courses separately so they're not coming out on top of each other was refreshing. And even though it was a Friday night and there were others waiting to get in we weren't rushed to pay our bill but instead invited to take our time. We hadn't seen or heard much about their pizzas, but we were in the mood for one and decided to order the meat pizza. It was made in a brick oven and it was really tasty. Honestly there were so many toppings that we ended up asking for an extra cup of the marinara sauce to dip it in. The sauce is made in house, it was delicious and the waitress said it's the same one that's used with the spaghetti and meatballs. In regard to the pizza size even though they're considered personal pizzas it was definitely bigger than we were anticipating. I would say they're close to 11 to 12 inches in diameter. My husband and I each enjoyed two pieces with our salad and took the other half home with us. They are definitely big enough to share, especially if you're ordering an appetizer or a salad to go with it. Our group very much enjoyed the artichoke spinach dip. It came with bread that had been cooked in their brick oven and I love that the spinach was in bigger pieces. My husband, and I also shared the harvest salad which had butternut squash on it, candied pecans & goat cheese. It was really yummy. Others in our group enjoyed the salmon and the crispy chicken sandwich. I had recently seen on a local Jefferson County page that many people consider Twisted Tavern the best place for a good piece of cake specifically, their wedding cake . Truth is that was the primary reason why I suggested this restaurant to meet our friends at but sadly by the time we finished our meal and were ready to order dessert they had already sold out. We were told this does not usually happen. Overall, we found tasty fresh food made in house, great service and fair prices. I am already planning another visit to the Twisted Tavern (so I can try their wedding cake! ).

We ordered apps. Spinach dip, onion rings, fried pickles, Brussel sprouts, and aside of spaghetti. The brussels sprouts were nicely fried, a little greasy. The fried pickles were lightly breaded, but very salty. The side of spaghetti was large enough to be a full serving. Wasn't overly impressed with the food, but the service here was top-notch.

I LOVE bars like the Fountain Inn. Unpretentious. Made for locals. And a bar where Michelob Ultra is considered a "hoity toity" beer. But the Fountain Inn was far from a dive. While the exterior of the building may look a little worn, the interior was recently renovated and updated. They even had a roomba to sweep the floor! How high tech. The flow of the bar was open and airy with lots of places to sit and enjoy a cold one on a nice warm day. Outside of the Fountain Inn, there's tons of seating. It was easy to keep your distance. There was also a stage set up with a man in overalls playing a little too much Johnny Cash. But I didn't care. It was live music and Nathan kept the $2 Stag beers coming. I didn't mind the drive from Soulard to the Fountain Inn. It made for a really relaxing mini-day trip.
