I'm hesitant to write this review but as I trust the Yelp community's reviews to make decisions on my kids' camps, I hope this helps give insight to prospective parents. ** They left my 6 year old alone outside for an entire class session. The first day of camp had water play. My kid's shoes got wet so the counselor helped her put them in the sun and had her sit on a bench to wait. Then everyone went indoors for other activities, leaving my kid alone outside. She was not able to get to her shoes because the pavement was really hot. After a long time, she finally just ran over to her shoes. A counselor then found her and brought her to art class when they were cleaning up after the activity. I don't know exactly how long she was left outside on her own in the hot sun, but being that a class ended in that time, I'm guessing 30-60 minutes. She came home near tears. I called Tony who was 90% business-apologetic and 10% defensive (claiming that she might have only been out there for 10 minutes, as kids don't have a strong concept of time). ** There is NO check in and check out protocol. There is no checking off of names when they arrive, and no ID checking during pickup. And obviously no head-counting when camp is in session. ** I can't speak for all the counselors, but all the ones that I saw during drop off were quite young (teenagers) and just talking with each other rather than interacting with the kids. Some of them were chatting with each other as they made friendship bracelets. ** They struggled with enrollment this summer and sent us many emails the weeks prior, encouraging us to spread the word. This is fine and understandable, but I felt they took it too far when my daughter told me that they were telling the kids that "Galileo is boring" and negative statements about other camps. ** On the last day of pick up, my husband went to pick up my daughter and found Tony getting in the kids' faces and yelling at them, drill-sergeant style. Tony was saying how he was fed up and how they weren't listening. While I did not witness this, my husband was quite shaken up and wanted to file a report. (We didn't, and felt it was better for us to share our experience and let parents make their own decisions) All this being said, there are some positives about this camp. The material and communication prior to camp was impressive. Tony was responsive when we had the issue the first day, and he did follow up the following day to check in. He was also flexible with allowing my younger daughter to drop out earlier this summer due to schedule conflict and charged us a reasonable fee. My daughter did have fun at moments, and came home quite happy with her face painted one day. For us, the negatives outweigh the positives by a landslide, and we don't be going back. read more

We love Champion Summer Camp!!! I have 5 kids (3 girls & 2 boys) and have sent my kids there the past few summers. Champion is by far my kids favorite camp (and there's no close 2nd). They have such a great time and tons of outdoor/indoor activities that they love (like soccer, dodgeball, basketball, carnival events, arts & crafts, dance and loads of games!) Having my kids in a fun and safe environment where they are outside and physically enjoying themselves away from screens & technology is a real plus for me and my husband! I highly recommend this camp! Here is the note I wrote to the owner: Dear Tony, My son, (intentionally omitted), had THE BEST time at camp last week! He was introduced to a bunch of sports that he had never played before! Despite our pleading with him to wear shorts (since it was so hot) on dress-up-in-baseball-uniform day, he really wanted the win for best dressed so he came donning his full uniform and was elated that his "hard work" paid off, earning him first place ribbon!! The counselors go above and beyond to make each kid feel welcome, safe, and comfortable enough to take risks in a structured and fun environment. Our two boys LOVE Champion Camp! We have sent our boys to this awesome camp, nestled in the trees at Crocker Middle School, for 6+ years and it is one of their favorites. Tony hires an amazing team each year as camp instructors, our boys always feel well looked after and they have FUN! One of the many cool things Champion Camp does is offer a fabulous outing each Wednesday. Raging Waters is our boys' personal fave, but what I love about Champion is Tony and team's real thoughtfulness...if the outing is Raging Waters, they will always offer a separate option equally fun for the younger children. Another Wednesday outing destination is Sky High Sports, which seems to appeal to both the younger and older kids. The Wednesday fun day is something all the kids look forward to - it's a really special mid-week treat. Champion Camp also offers the most flexible pre and after care system. It's there for us to use but we are only charged if we use it! And of course, there are discounts for multiple week commitments, etc. One can also book by the day, which gives immense flexibility for family summer trips. We are huge fans of Champion Camp. Our boys have already asked to spend half of their 2020 summer there. read more

I enrolled my 6 year old boy/girl twins in a total of 5 camps this summer (Galileo Camp, plus several Burlingame Rec camps), and while they really enjoyed all of them, Champion Camp was hands down their favorite - even for my daughter who was skeptical in advance because she thought it would be all about sports, and that's not really her bag. I could tell from the start that it was a well run camp, getting a detailed set of instructions from Tony the camp director about the logistics. The range of activities (lots of fun games, crafts, sports), the level of authentic energy, the inclusiveness, and the attention from the camp counselors was wonderful - my daughter talks regularly about one of her counselors, Sabrina, who made a huge mark on her heart in just the one week. When she's worried she'll have nightmares, she wears her Champion Camp tee shirt to bed because it reminds her of Sabrina and that gives her happy thoughts (incidentally, it's a high quality shirt in an awesome color, with a different cut for the girls and boys, but still sporty and practical for the girls). My husband and I agreed that if we could design an ideal summer camp, this would be just about what we'd wish for. read more

My kids attended Champion Summer Camp from the first year it opened and eventually went on to become CITs. If you want a true old-school style summer camp filled with games, sports, arts and crafts, and lots of laughs, CSC is a great option. Running a camp like this takes a lot of effort, organization and I'm sure patience! The drop off/pickup always was easy. My husband and I just moved to Burlingame with our 5 year old son. We decided to sign him up for various camps throughout the summer. The past two weeks were spent at Champions Summer Camp and honestly, I'm sorry I didn't sign him up for more time here! This is a well organized and incredibly run camp with loads of activities and a super friendly staff with lots of energy. My son had a blast playing sports, doing art projects, playing games and enjoyed hanging with kids his own age and older ones as well. Drop off was a breeze and when I picked him up, he never wanted to leave! This camp reminded me of camp growing up. Pure fun and lots of outdoor activities, exactly what I think children should be doing during summertime! Champion Summer Camp has been a favorite for both of my kids since Tony first started the camp ~6 years ago. The camp really is amazing. Your child is outside virtually all day which is great, given our technology-filled lives. The field trips are top notch and they put on a very fun end-of-camp skit. There are activities for all ages...boys and girls alike. Drop off and pick up are a breeze and I love the lunch service option. Let's face it...us mom's are busy so if I can knock a few lunches off the menu for the day it's a win-win and very nice to have this option. My kids love the lunch as well, but they also love the popsicle they get at the end of the day if their behavior is good. It's the little things;-). I literally recommend this camp to anyone who asks for ideas of where to send their kids. read more

UPDATE- was just notified of a positive covid case the week my children were there, unsurprisingly . The lack of masking and lax attitude of the counselors and staff is absolutely astounding. Just because masks aren't mandatory, as a business they can choose to protect the unvaccinated children better by enforcing masking and modeling that behaviour for the kids. read more

This was my daughter's first experience with Champion camp after just moving to the area. We started off with signing her up for one week and now she is on her 5th week. She begs to go! She loves all of the counselors, especially Sophia. She requests her each week and Tony has been incredibly accommodating. He runs this place like a tight ship. It is very organized and they pay attention to Covid guidelines to protect the children. Champion camp and the new friends my daughter has made have made this transition to the area seamless. My son has gone to Champions camp for two years and he loves it! The counselors are really great with the kids. They play a variety of different sports but also do arts and crafts. And each week they do a field trip or water activity (water balloons etc) and his favorite part is they often earn popsicles at the end of the day. He asks "when can I go back to Champions". I totally recommend Champions if your looking for a well rounded camp day!!! read more

My son has been going to this camp for four Summers. He never wants to leave when I pick him up. It's a great way to ensure your child is running around and being active instead of staring at the ipad. The drop off and pick up queue is very efficient. Love the total flexibility of the schedule and the drop in After Care when I need it. I like that this is an independent business and the owner is personally involved on a daily basis. This was the first summer we decided to sign our 6 year old son up for some various summer camps instead of sending him to the summer program at his school (which we also like) for the entire summer. Champion was one of the camps we tried for the first 3 weeks of the summer and it was amazing! I wish we signed up for more time there! Our son had a great time with all the different activities and other kids. The camp is very well organized, the counselors are friendly and very enthusiastic, and there were tons of fun activities for our son - including once a week field trips (bowling, trampoline park, etc). More great things about this camp - --The camp director sends out detailed information about what to expect including an actual map of where the camp is located within Crocker Middle School (much appreciated as it was our first time at this camp and were not familiar with Crocker). --Very well orchestrated drive-thru drop-off and pick-up. --ChoiceLunch! My son's elementary school uses ChoiceLunch and we love it, so I was really happy to see that this was an option at Champion. --Flexible extended care available on an as-needed basis. In a pinch we needed a summer camp for my 12 year old niece. I found Tony and Champion Summer Camp through an internet search and what a find it was! My niece had THE BEST time!!! This was my son's first camp, starting him at age 5. He LOVES Champion Summer Camp. He spent weeks there at ages 5 and 6 and is so hoping to be able to go this summer (age 7). He loves all the outdoor play, has been quite fond of his counselors, and really enjoys being there, where he gets to play all sorts of sports and games, including soccer, dodgeball, and tug of war. My boys loved Champion Camp! This was always their favorite camp because they got yo be active outdoors and meet new friends. My son loves the Champion camp at Crocker Middle School in Hillsborough. We make sure to sign him up every summer for at least three or more weeks to ensure that he has the full experience and gets exposed to a wide variety of sports that are offered, and all the cool field trips to the beach, ranging waters, etc. We were very fortunate to learn about the Champion camp from another mom at our elementary school, and I am very happy to pass the favor onto the other moms now: Go and try the Champion camp, your boys and girls will not only love their experience, but will also learn new sports and make lots of new friends from the Burlingame/Hillsborough neighborhood along the way! read more

Both my 9-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter are huge fans of Champion Summer Camp. It's great having a single camp that they both enjoy so much. My son loves the wide variety of camp activities from playing his favorite sports to letting loose on the slip 'n' slide. My daughter loves the arts and craft projects, as well as the chance to discover new games and sports. As one of the youngest campers last summer, she was at times anxious about trying a new activity, but the counselors were so supportive and encouraging that she quickly warmed up. The camp is really well organized, and the counselors are attentive and full of energy. Our kids got lots of great exercise, learned new skills, made new friends, and came home happy and tired. My incoming 7th grader and my incoming 1st grader attended Champions and they both had a great time. They were there for sports week and they had so much variety - track and field, floor hockey - way more than just soccer and basketball. And the field trips to raging waters and sky high were great. Another amazing experience at Champion Camp! This was my son's 3rd summer at Champion and it just gets better and better. The kids are busy, active, outside and happy all day. The director, Tony, and the counselors seem excited for each day which makes the kids comfortable and excited for their day. This was the only camp my two girls wanted to go to this summer. They had so much fun last summer ... from sports to dance to art. They also couldn't stop talking about the staff who are so friendly and energetic. From a parent perspective it's a breeze .... drop off and pick up are well planned, the lunch selections are great and Tony does a great job of keeping everything organized, safe and fun. This is our first summer enrolled at day camp for my daughter who can be a bit shy. She is loving it so much and she loves telling me about her day; field hockey, soccer, dancing, and even slip-n-slide events! She looks forward to her days when she gets to go to camp.
