This is a very important site in the history of Montana. Being the site of the first settlement,first church,first lumber mill, first grist mill, first organized agriculture; this is truly where Montana began. What first struck me on an initial visit, was the quantity of ORIGINAL Artifacts on display. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and friendly. You will learn about the early days of the mission, how the settlers (Blackrobes) lived, worked and taught the native Salish and others. Recently added is a Salish encampment and teaching components on native Salish life. Several reproductions (made by a Salish artist) enhance the story for school groups and others. On the District grounds is also a museum, gift shop, and art gallery. On the west side of the District is the historic cemetery where Father Anthony Ravalli, Salish and early settlers are buried. The tickets are well priced and their popcorn is organic! I loved that they serve their popcorn in reusable metal bowls. They also have a variety of seasonings you can use like curry, nutritional yeast, chili flakes and more. Our theater was pretty full, but that made it that much more enjoyable. It felt very community based, we all laughed at the funny parts together and I felt like I was having a movie night with everyone. I also enjoyed that it wasn't too loud, which chain theaters have made a horrible habit of being. The ads were also locally sponsored. There was also an acknowledgment before the movie started about how they know they are on native land. Overall, an amazing experience. Next time I'm in Missoula I WILL be visiting (as long as there are movies I'd like to see!)

They were pretty difficult to actually assemble, so I eventually gave up and ate everything more like a salad. The pork was absolutely delicious, though, and easily the highlight of the dish. Service was a little spotty, although we were a very large group, so I am sure that made things more difficult. Drinks were frequently missed or came out incorrectly, and our server had to reconfirm some orders multiple times. That said, they were incredibly nice and friendly throughout, which definitely helped. Overall, Top Hat Lounge is a great place to hang out, especially if you want a lot of space, a fun atmosphere, and live music. The service could have been smoother, but I would definitely come back.
