We were walking around looking for La Paradeta but our gps brought us here at Chao Pescao! (formerly La Paradeta)! We had a great time having our late lunch here. The entire staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, making our first visit unforgettable. A special thank you to Rafael, our server, who was attentive, kind, and made sure everything was perfect from start to end of our visit. Also, big appreciation to Hassan, who was at the drinks and counter area. She helped us with our drinks and checked in to make sure we had everything we needed her warm and welcoming attitude made a huge difference. The seafoods are unbelievably fresh, and the best part is they'll cook it exactly the way you like it. Every dish we tried was delicious and prepared to perfection, we had our two orders of sardines fried but it's lightly breaded yet light and crispy, 2 orders of Pulpo we requested it to be grilled and it was cooked to perfection and the 2 sea-breams one is grilled with side of fresh olives that was grated with herbs and olive oil it really complimented the fish well and then, one fried , lightly breaded but very light yet the fish was crunchy and tender, my taste buds were very happy. The dining area was clean and well maintained. If you're looking for great seafood and exceptional service, Chao Pescao is a must-visit. We said we will comeback and we did! Unique seafood market style dinning experience. You select your fresh seafood from the stand and the restaurant would prepare them and deliver them to your table. Everything was fresh and delicious, and the staffs were very tentative. If you didn't pick enough on the first round, you can always go back to the stand and pick more. Highly recommended!

[Food] - Razor clams: Not bad but I enjoyed the other dishes more. - Oysters: So good and fresh with a spritz of lemon. - Scallops: Pretty decent although I would say definitely better elsewhere. - Tomato Clams Marinera: Would definitely order this again! Couldn't finish it there and tasted just as good eating it at home! [Service] - Line up, order food, drinks, pay, find a table and food will be brought out to your table with given order tag. [Ambiance] - A modern, chill restaurant for some beer and seafood snacks! [Overall] - I would definitely come back here again if I'm ever in the area for yummy fresh seafood and beer!

Fresh seafood selection

Some of the freshest and best seafood I have ever had! This place was right around the corner from our hotel and looked so good every time we walked by, so we decided to try it out on our last night. We saw a big sign that advertised seafood for 2 for $24, 50 Euros per person, so we went for it. We were very pleasantly surprised when the platter came out that it was full of a variety of seafood! All tasted very fresh and very good! It was such a huge portion, that we didn't even finish it. Each seafood was cooked in a different style, so you have boiled, grilled, fried, and steamed to say the least. I'm not sure if the selection varies based on the night, as the menu didn't specify, but you definitely can't go wrong with this. I just wished there was something similar near me.

Overall 5/5! Taste: 5/5 muy delicioso! Sweet razor clams & shrimps. Most moist & tender fish. Lightly-Crisped delicious tiny squids. Quality: 5/5 fresh as heck! Everything was simply seasoned with salt, olive oil or lemon because there's no fishy taste or smell to hide. Service: 5/5 no-frills waiter-less quick-serve like service. You simply pick your seafood and drinks, pay and take number to your table. It just works! Value: 5/5 compared to most tourist places or US seafood restaurant prices. X-factor: 5/5 on a side street near the most popular shopping area in Barcelona "Passeig de Gracia."

Cockles and clams

This place is absolutely amazing and a must visit if you visit Barcelona. Chao Pescao was recommended by our friends who ate here 3 times during their stay! So we decided to come by and give this place a try. It might be a bit confusing on how the process works and the host speaks very fast with a bit of a thick accent so here is a quick summary: First you choose from an array of fresh raw seafood. We chose cockles (whitebait fish), fish of the day, clams, scallops, large shrimps and razor clams. After that, you walk down further to the cashier and they'll offer you bread, wine and dipping sauce. They will charge you extra 80 cents for each extra dipping sauce but it's absolutely worth it! I got wasabi mayo, tartare and garlic. All of them were absolutely amazing! The cashier will give you a table number and you just take a seat anywhere. Anytime your table number is called, it means they cooked some portion of your order and it's ready to be picked up. As for the quality of the food. It is just phenomenal and I can see why my friends kept going back again and again. In my reviews, I usually rank the food from best to least favorite but all the seafood I ordered were so good I have to rank them ALL my favorites. I mean I think you can close your eyes and just point at anything and you won't be disappointed. Am I coming back? Oh absolutely!

This place was definitely a gem! It used to be La Paradeta, but is now Chao Pescao. Appears to be the same concept though- you pick your fresh seafood at the counter first, then order your drinks at the next counter, then sit down and wait for it. Seating is plentiful indoors, which is so hard to find in most restaurants in the area. Everything was cooked well and tasted great! Will be back again!

Scallops and razor clams and prawns

Loved this place! True order then sit kind of location. Chose our seafood first (literally raw and moving) and then got it cooked on the spot. Great wine options too. Got the following: Razor clams, scallops, great prawns, and octopus. All were amazing. The best part of it all was that it was so fresh that it almost required no added salt, but there was extra salt and pepper if needed. Will be back!!!

Muscles

Ladies and Gentlemen, you ever have the chance to eat at Chao Pescao you must. We ordered Raw Oysters, Muscles in Marinara, Fried Calamari, Catch of the day broiled, and Octopus seared. The oysters were very fresh. The muscles in marinara were our favorite. I ate all of the calamari. The octopus was a little overcooked. The catch of the day was good but I suppose there are more exciting options on the menu. All in all, the experience we had was great. After eating we enjoyed the sangria that comes in a huge bottle. The people that work there are extremely nice. I can't wait to bring my unborn son here

Fresh fresh seafood that you pick for your meal and tell them if you want it grilled or fried I loved the grilled calamari and scallops My husband had salmon too. The shrimp were still in shells and hard to remove without effort We had a garden salad which was very good

Oh my goodness this is so good. If I ever go to Barcelona again I would come here…read more Must get: Steak with foie gras on bread 8/10: sooo decadent and luxurious. It's abt 8 euros a piece. Very flavorful and fast experience. Oxtail and mashed potatoes 10/10: the oxtail meet is so tender and flavorful. The mashed potatoes pair so well with the oxtail. Mushroom, steak, and egg yolk 9/10: soo flavorful and balance of veggies and protein. Amazing textures and flavors. Sparkling sangria: 8/10 I don't normally live the taste of alcohol but this was great. Not tooooo strong and if tastes pretty good if you mix it with the orange juice. Fresh orange juice: 10/10 so tangy and delicious. I can't recommend it enough. Patatas bravas: 9/10 solid no complaints! Dessert Tapas: - bread dessert (Tarija): 11/10 amazing dessert that is creamy, cameralized, and has a mochi like texture. This fried chewy dessert is not too sweet and such an affordable price. - coconut pudding 9/10 solid and refreshing if you like flan - bread, chocolate oil, salt 7/10: I live the complex flavors. The chocolate mousse was light and the bread to mousse ratio was perfect. It's a smaller dessert tho I wouldn't recommend it if ur sharing. Service: amazing! Staff I'm everywhere so it was very easy to order more food. Also we were sitting buy the area where they made dessert and they allowed me to record them making it!! Comfortable ambiance great for date night or casual meals!!!

This restaurant was literally right next to our stay in Barcelona--skipping it felt like a crime,…read moregiven the rave reviews. So, on a rainy afternoon, we gave it a shot. We arrived just after lunch opening and were the first customers. The guy at the counter was... efficient. He simply told us to pick what we wanted, tossed it in a bin, and that was that. No explanation of pricing or preparation methods. When we asked how they'd cook it, he casually offered "fried or grilled." Obviously, we chose grilled--why fry fresh seafood? We picked two giant prawns, two octopus tentacles, and two fish (since hubby can't have shellfish). He asked if we wanted salad or soup--reviews hyped the soup, so we went with that. Then he handed us a receipt, told us we were order #3, and sent us to the bar. At the bar, we ordered two sangrias and a water. The bartender asked if we wanted bread and sauce. Sure, why not? We assumed they were included. Surprise! The tiny baguettes cost €0.50 each, and the mystery "house sauce" (a questionable mix of thousand island and horseradish) was an extra €1. We only realized the charge when we saw the total: €73. Oh well, too late now. Then came the food pickup experience--chaotic, to say the least. The server practically barked at us to bring our receipt, aggressively crossed off items, and handed over soups and octopus, crammed onto a greasy tray. No effort at plating, just food haphazardly dumped onto plates. The second round--grilled fish and prawns--was more of the same. Now, the verdict: Soup (5/5) - Delicious and reasonably priced at €6. Would order again. Bread & Sauce (0/5) - Not free, not worth it. Hard pass. Octopus (€31.80 for two tentacles, 1/5) - Overpriced, greasy, and drowning in molten salt. Basically, eating a sodium bomb. Grilled Fish (€10.50 & €8.50, 3/5) - Decent, but unnecessarily oily. Grilled Prawns (€5.59, 0/5) - Mushy, not fresh, and borderline inedible. Final thoughts? Not worth it. With so many incredible food spots in Barcelona, why waste your meal quota here? If you want quality seafood, go to Cervecería Catalana--we spent €5 more, but a meal a thousand times better. Spend wisely and eat like a king.

I've had fried anchovies before but this was too heavy for us - Octopus: This was a bit oily but but not as much as the anchovies. Potatoes were nice and soft and absorbed all the sauces. - Small Clams: My favorite dish out of all we've ordered. Although the clams were small, the sauce it was cooked in was delicious! [Service] - Line up, order what you want, some seafood have various cook styles so they will ask you which you'd prefer, pay, find a table, and pick up at the pick up window once your buzzer goes off. [Ambiance] - Mainly indoor seating with 2 tables outdoors [Overall] - Would come back again as I love this kind of seafood eateries! Will definitely try other dishes next time as well

Two of us picked 5 types of seafood, a salad and a fish soup. We tried the sangria as our drinks. Everything is beyond fantastic! We would highly recommend this seafood gem to all our friends. Here are a few tips for the first timers: 1) The workers at the order area don't understand English well. We pointed at the seafood for ordering. 2) Recommended to have the fish soup over mixed salad as an appetizer. The fish soup is made with lots of fish and ginger; and it carries so much flavor. 3) The mussels are a must-have and are so cheap (Under 10 Euros for huge portions). It's recommended to prepare in two ways: white wine and tomato sauce 4) The La Paradeta sauce (I e. A green basil sauce) goes very well with shrimps and razor clams. 5) The fried calamari was so delicious and perfectly paired with drizzles of lemon juice. Yet, it's so expensive (24 Euros for a very small portion). It doesn't feel as worth it as compared to something like lobsters (29 Euros/single lobster). 6) I noticed many people ordered a bottle of wine instead of Sangria. Will need to try next time!

The foie gras was absolutely unforgettable--rich, delicate, and simply to die for. The sangria was equally exceptional, fresh, balanced, and dangerously delicious. Well, the restaurant was cute and cozy with a great ambiance. With luck on our side, we found two seats at the bar and quickly ordered drinks. We ordered a pitcher of the sangria (because why not?). The sangria was delicious, refreshing, and made to order. It was definitely more authentic than what we're getting in America. We ordered the patatas bravas, tempura asparagus, the octopus, and the steak. It all came out as it became available. We couldn't decide what our favorite was, to be honest. We ordered an ice cream sandwich for dessert and quickly requested our bill. We didn't want to hold the staff up as we noticed they were cleaning the establishment and people were finishing up. Overall, what a great experience for our first meal in Barcelona! Cute and hidden gem.
