If the web site is to be believed, cars line up from sunrise to sunset outside the Chapati & Karak shack in Doha, Qatar. I couldn't personally attest to this, but the London outpost of Chapati & Karak did seem to be popular and I was one of the few patrons not of Middle East origin. Though the food here is Indian, the menu items - chapati and karak almost exclusively - were unfamiliar to me. I indulged in milk tea, a savory chapati, and an utterly delicious special from the oven, "Safiha's Meat" (£14) Chapati & Karak proved to be a nice lunchtime stop with good, warm food and a pleasant, moderately upscale dining room. I was sorry that I'd not arrived with a larger party which would allow me to sample more of the menu and possibly to sit on the floor at the enticing Moroccan-style seating. I appreciated that the food and menu here were very different from any I regularly encounter in San Francisco-area Indian restaurants. Qatar! Woo hoo! I mean, how often do you go to a Qatari restaurant? So I kind of loved this place. The inattentive servers certainly weren't the reason for this five star review, but the cafe had two things I loved (karak and a cool table) and one I liked (chapati). We were lucky enough to get the one low table with pillows. You take off your shoes and basically sit on pretty pillows that are floor height. I thought our sweet chapati was bland at first, but maybe it was my piece. It's kind of like a flatbread baklava - but it really grew on me, and in the end I thought it was quite good. We stopped in on a very cold winter's eve. It was completely full- people seated in the cozy nooks munching on chapati and sipping karak. We had no option but to take it to go. Authentic Arabic Karak (Indian chai) just opposite of Harrods department store. Delicious and very affordable at a mere £3 per cup vs the same expensive product inside of Harrods Mezzah Lounge. Tasty chapati and karak. I got the soft cheese chapati and the cardamom karak. Whilst I think £5 for the chapati and £3 for the small karak is a bit too much, I can't complain on the flavors. The liquid, white cheese is mild and sweet with lots inside the chapati which is soft and tasty, like a flatter naan bread. I went to first shop located in Doha,Qatar and I'm really excited when I knew that they opened in London. This is a really nice place to drink the famous tea with milk blend called " karak ". Now if you know what real Indian tea is, you're dying to have some and you don't mind forking out a bit more than you would from the homeland (India that is) for it, get here ASAP! Don't expect a phenomenal menu, they practically serve under 10 things but by George, I love this place! The only other one is all the way in Doha, Qatar, so if you're in the area, not popping in is completely your loss. Karak is basically very strong tea, boiled in a pot for pretty much.... forever. It's automatically sweet as they use evaporated or condensed milk (not sure which one, to be honest) and you have the choice of having it plain or with cardamom. There's also the choice of ginger, mint, green or red tea but that's all folks! This place is not meant for coffee seekers. As the name states, they also serve "Chapati" - not the standard Asian 'roti' kind though, it's more paratha like personally but you can have it plain so it's savoury or they'll add some sugar/honey to make it sweet (I recommend getting the sweet version). During my visit to London, I was taken to this perfect chai place near Harrods on Knightsbridge and what an amazing experience it was! NO matter what time of the day, this place is always packed. For big groups (any larger than 4ppl) it's recommended to make a reservation at one of the moroccan style booth, which some of them are floor style to get the real moroccan/indian style experience! IN LOVE with their interior!!! Intricate details, colorful lanterns and chic little windows all throughout the place! MUST HAVE their cardamom karak, with/without the chapati. Perfect amount of cardamom and milk, (not a fan but LOVE it in the karak!) Each cuppa heaven is £4.75 which is totally reasonable for how flavorful and exquisite it is! We tried the Cardamom (£4) and Regular (£4) Karaks -- came very (too?) hot, but were delicious once we could sip them . We enjoyed them with a sweet chapati (£5), which was cut into 9 pieces and a good snack. (We enjoyed the drinks more than the chapati to be honest.) In the heart of Knightsbridge just a stone's throw from Harrod's is this gem of a place that serves up some damn good karak (milk tea with a choice of flavors). It reminded me of HongKong milk tea with with a Southeast Asian and middle eastern flair. They also serve "parathay" (classic flat bread) with different fillings. As one might suspect, in any given visit the customers are a blend of locals, Arabs and folks from the sub-continent. For those who are partial to sheesha (water-pipes) those are also available out in front of the cafe. Service was average with the waiter having trouble understanding English. Definitely the place to go if you're in the mood for some strong Arab style masala chai. It differs from the traditional Indian Chai as it uses condensed milk instead of whole milk so the Chai is a lot thicker. It comes in two sizes. The small was more than enough for me - might go for the large in the rainy winter when I need more warmth. Fun fact: this institution is owned/sponsored by the government of Qatar. The interiors are quite posh making for a great ambience. The chapati itself is pretty average (and not like an Indian chapati at all) and I wouldn't pay £5 for it again. Karak tea is what i would get on long road trips to different towns and the roadside stalls would serve this super strong, tasty tea with milk and sugar. We were super excited to finally try this place where all they serve are teas and "chapati". The place was packed at 4:30 on a sunday so we got a text message when a table was ready for us (didnt hurt me because i went to reiss and shopped a bit!) When we got seated, the tea we ordered was the cardamom tea (our favorite flavor), although there were several others including one that had no additional flavor and ginger. I probably should have asked to have the tea without sugar so i could decide how sweet i wanted it but it was delicious nonetheless. We ordered a plain "chapati", which is actually a parantha, a layered bread with butter. delicious but i would say it was nothing out of the ordinary to me. The space had an interesting vibe to it and would be a good place to have a "tea" date given all they have on the menu is just that :) I will definitely go back and bring my family with me :) read more

I like this place. I don't come across Cardamom karak tea often. Here they have three versions . Sweeeet. And I mean literally. You have the option to sweeten yourself.
