Princeton Friends School is a community of learners who work together to create an environment…read morewhere individuals feel supported, welcome, and included, where adults often learn from the students, and all feel engaged in the learning process. As a small school, every member of the community gets to know one another, and mixed-age groupings for events and some classes are the norm. Social and emotional well-being is something the staff take seriously and constantly review and address. PFS believes in the importance of outdoor learning, and often students can be found studying microbiology in a local stream, finding writing inspiration among the trees, and gaining confidence in themselves when working in the garden or exploring the woods. Teachers respect the authenticity and agency of each student, and encourage and empower them accordingly. I have worked at PFS for four years as a teacher and within the administrative team, and my sense is that the teachers who choose to be here do so because they truly care about the other members of the community, and enjoy the daily challenge of helping one another be our best selves. We seek to discover and nurture the joy in learning and in contributing to a community of folks who care for one another. Diverse learners are welcome at PFS and teachers and staff work hard to 'meet them where they are' while encouraging growth and student ownership of their learning. Students who need extra support at PFS are evaluated, and given accommodations in class and supported by a student study team. Families are encouraged to be active partners in the students' learning, and are welcomed regularly on campus for events. Teachers are in regular communication with families through student advisory teams, and there are many opportunities to connect through the Family Association.

This is an amazing school. Not only does it help your child succeed but because they are not bound…read moreto the standard grade school curriculum, your child can excel far beyond their natural talents. Children can take high school math in middle school or do science that they normally could not do. My son attends this school and he is a better, brighter person for it. He is naturally very intelligent and with "many hours" of focused homework, was an A, B student in the public school system. We chose the Lewis School because he is slightly back and white, very sensitive and emotional. For many years he was bullied for being different. And every year we saw this amazingly bright, happy, talkative kid become negative, sad and gloomy. He didn't want to go to school, refused homework and the most upsetting part as a parent was he lost faith in himself. Then we found The Lewis school and OUR not just his life changed. Just after a couple months of attending The Lewis School we saw amazing changes in him. He's happier, wants to go to school, talkative and can handle situations better. He doesn't fight us to go to school or to do his homework (Which he still hates btw). This is the "LEWIS GIFT". They provide children with the love and support our children need. They understand each child and provide proper clinical advice and aid to help them grow into young adults in a stress less environment. This school is not just for learning differences, although they are experts in many fields including dyslexia (which come in many levels similar to autism), but for all children who want to learn in a better accepting environment. They build confidence and leadership in a loving understanding way. Words cannot describe what the school has done for my child as well as many other children and families. As a parent you know your child's happiness is priceless. They need the chance to open up and focus on being the best they can be. I, we truly believe The Lewis School is the only place that can open that window.
