My tenant started contacting Camillus House in Miami for rental assistance back in 11/2024. Both…read morethe tenant and landlord provided all needed documents in a timely fashion in multiple rounds. However, the communication from Camillus House was always blurry. They always told us the case would be processed in a couple of weeks and nothing happened in the next a couple of months. When we contacted them again, the same thing happened. They kept asking for new documents. However, once the new document was provided and they just stopped communication. It seems that this Camillus House does NOT really want to provide assistance but merely stays in business so that the staff get paid by the donated money. I would like to share my story so that others can get a better picture of this organization.

This weekend was my first time actually being inside of a Ronald McDonald House. I came here with…read moremy volunteer group. Children and their families are very blessed to have a facility like this that allows their family members to be close to them during a difficult time. Everything in the facility is pretty much donated by various organizations. From the food to the rooms these families are provided for. The facility is kept clean and for the most part looks very comfortable. If I had the funds I would pour into these facilities as well because insurance only covers so much.

I passed by this mini farmstand by chance and gosh what a fortuitous find!…read more It's a beautifully decorated booth, offering an amazing array of items given its size. There are baked goods, crochet items, dried flowers, herbs, cards, jewelries, gemstones, socks and more. Some of the items are handmade, and everything is displayed with love and care. It is unmanned and is based on honor system. You can deposit cash into the box or use Zelle or other electric payment by scanning a QR code. There are even shopping bags of various sizes provided. There is also a little free library next to it. If you are in the neighborhood, definitely do pass by and check it out, and hopefully give them some support. We need more places like this to make the neighborhood beautiful!

The items were then given to the people who worked on them or were resold. Goodwill's philosophy is "a hand up, not a hand out". Today Goodwill has become a $5 billion nonprofit organization that provides job training, employment, and community programs for people who have disabilities that might prevent them from getting a job on their own. They are also keeping millions of pounds of items out of landfills every year. This is a very large Goodwill Store on Dixie Hwy. in Palmetto Bay in south Miami. What stood out to me about this store was the incredible level of organization it had. It looked like the Home Edit ladies got their hands on it. I didn't have high hopes when entering because the door was disgustingly dirty but once I stepped inside I was impressed. All of the clothes were grouped by color, shoes were perfectly lined up, everything was by size, type, and in it's place. Most Goodwill's are organized but this was next level. It made me want to go home and tidy up my own closet. I do enjoy exploring a Goodwill but now that I have discovered the pay by pound outlets I tend to prefer the thrill of the hunt there. Still if you are in the area, this is a good store to stop in if for no other reason than organization inspiration.
