When March came, we knew what we wanted to accomplish, and Matt Huebner was assigned our estimate. Our project consisted of a resodding installation for our front yard, cleaning out and the mulching of our flower beds. Matt didn't even need to visit our property to do the estimate, instead using satellite imagery for our property lines and work areas. Their quote was received promptly and was within our budget, so we approved the estimate and scheduled the work to be completed. We were hoping to have the project done in May but Pittsburgh weather being what it is and a rainy May, things got started on May 26 (Friday). Ben and his crew (For transparency, I'll mention that the work was subcontracted out to another local Landscaper who does most of the general landscaping for Local Roots) arrived around 9am and hoped to finish the job in one day. They worked until early evening and would have completed the job but ran short on mulch. We were fine with that because the sod was installed by the end of the day, so our yard didn't look unsightly over the weekend. The crew returned the following Tuesday to complete some mulching and only needed about an hour to finish. Things looked fantastic and the grass is growing out nicely almost two weeks later. We are very happy with what we had done.

Roughly 3 weeks later we had a video conference and they reveal our design. During the call they did not give us fencing options to look at and that was the main reason we were redoing our back yard and hired them. All they did was quote us on a vinyl fence, which we clearly stated we did not want, and an aluminum fence. They did give us plant options however we clearly stated we wanted roses, a space for a hot tub to be added later and a space for a fire pit, None of which they took into consideration. As soon as the call was over I received a bill for $1200. My boyfriend and I spent time reviewing the design and overall we were not very happy. It was like they took the existing yard and added a retaining wall. They did not include several items that we asked for and quoted us for something we clearly stated we did not want. Two days later I sent an email to the company stating that my boyfriend and I were not happy with the design. I listed the reasons why and said that we would be moving on from their company. Come Monday morning and I received an email with an overdue bill for $1200 dollars. It was 4 days after the design meeting and now all of the sudden I have an overdue bill??? They did not respond to my email and ask "how can we make this right" or anyway to fix it they just sent an "overdue" bill that I got 4 days earlier. They quoted us over $170,000 for our design, which we were going to pay with a few design changes, and they didn't even ask HOW CAN WE MAKE THIS RIGHT? I do not recommend this company.

They clearly knew the product was bad because they provided full refund but even the replacement plants are not in good shape. Mike is the person you deal with for issues with plants and he couldn't be more nasty. He even admitted to me they knowingly sold me hundreds of dollars of trees two days before they announced a 50% off everything sale and said wouldn't you do the same in your line of work. My boyfriend went in and the man he worked with was also miserable and nasty. I will add when I was waiting to check out there was a man in front of me returning everything he had purchased within a few days ago so there is a pattern here...I recommend Michael Brothers- lower prices, kinder staff and BETTER QUALITY!! Paul took the time to meet with us both, to show us several of the houses he has landscaped; to give us ideas. We weren't sure even where to start, we just told Paul that we wanted a variety of plants and colors. He brought his crew in and within 3 days they had all the old plants out and beautiful new plants in place. There were trees of all colors, as well as evergreens of all shapes and sizes. There is an amazing stone walkway from our garage to the back yard, with different types of plants flanking both sides. Well placed boulders along the stairs help set off the small plants and ornamental grasses on the hillside. We were unsure of having lights placed among the plants but decided to go ahead with them. Wow what a difference they make, so glad we did. We are amazed and in awe of the finished oasis of lights and plants we have in our backyard and around the pool. We can't give enough praise to Paul and McMurray Nursery for a job well done; product, price, and his crew all included.

They were punctual and got the project completed in the time we had been given at the start. The work done was thorough. They are true craftsmen. They are a little pricey, but the quality of work is outstanding. So they deliver your money's worth. I would recommend them without any hesitation. Good people to work with. We were going on vacation at the end of May (tree still not delivered) and called and told them to wait until we get back now. Called when we got back to schedule and mentioned we didn't see our tree when we were there. I'm assuming they sold it to someone else. He showed a pic on the phone of another tree he could plant. He said it was the same. We said ok and they came the next morning. The tree they brought was at least 2-3 feet shorter than the one we picked. The root ball was about 1/3 of the one we picked. After talking to the owner and him arguing about the tree, he offered $100 off the price. I was just so pissed off, I just had them plant the new tree just to stop dealing with them. We got this tree to shield our pool from the 2 houses next door that were for sale since we weren't sure how nice they would be. It will be a few f*****g years till it grows to a decent height.

The staff where very friendly and helpful. as it was basically the end of the season for azalea's there selection was not good. I also felt that there pricing especially on the azalea's where extremely expensive more than double the cost of home depot for similar size. I originally went to Cavacini Landscaping as the Home Depot near me had none left. I ended up leaving and going to another Home depot where I bought azalea's for half the price. Cavacini had a good selection of perennials but again pricey. If I was in a bind I would go back as the plants looked nice and the service was friendly and staff was helpful.
