Ok new bar in town so it would be rude not to try it out. This place until recently was another…read morebar. In its new incarnation it has transformed into a clean and bright cocktail bar. This is the first cocktail bar in the area and hopefully it will be here for a long time. Now do not get me wrong I do like this place but there are a few things that it will need to improve on. The variety of cocktails on offer is ok. They can make some on demand but not every cocktail you may ask for. I guess that there are more cocktails in the world that I know of so I cannot argue with that, however I do think the menu they have needs a few more additions. The staff are all very helpful and accommodating I especially like the fact that when someone who clearly had had a few too many somewhere else got a little to loud they were quick to quieten him down and then he left quickly after that. The music level is ok so you can have a conversation without competing with the music. The price of the cocktails is cheaper than city prices but still pricy for the area. Some little nibbles on offer might be another good improvement. As it is early days I'm sure they will figure this out.

Tastefully decorated and a place where you would want to sit and drink (not propping up the bar), the waiting staff were friendly and seemed to be enjoying themselves also. They accommodated making a cocktail which was not on the menu. Although they have a menu of cocktails, there are not many on there and, if you label yourself 'cocktail', I'd expect to have a wide variety of cocktails to select from. I think this could be improved. They also have a downstairs area which we were informed is intended to be for live DJ nights on the weekend. That area is more spacious in the middle with a bar down there also. The night we were in there, it was not overly busy (which I like!). There was one noisy customer who clearly had too much to drink however, he was promptly told to keep it down otherwise leave. Good sign of the calibre they wish to keep so hopefully they keep this up. I think the music, could be a little lower upstairs leaving this area where you come to sit and chat and downstairs a little more vibrant. With the music high, you have to raise your voice making it all a little noisy for a cocktail lounge. I hope they do well here as it is something different to what is available in CP currently. I will visit again and see how they progress.

From start to finish, this was the worst restaurant experiences I've had…read more I visited this restaurant with my family one evening, and the first thing we saw was the unwelcoming stares of the waitstaff (a group of 5 or more people hovering by the bar, who couldn't have looked less enthusiastic if they tried). Eventually one of them mustered up the courage to approach us, after we stood awkwardly for 2 minutes. We were asked "Do you have a booking-". Considering half the restaurant was empty, and there was just 2 of us we expected a better response. We were told to wait while he checked - Again, we could clearly see there was space. He guided us to the very back wall of the restaurant, right by the kitchen door. In his defence, there was a pretty big party of young people that were sitting by the window having the time of their lives (kudos to them), and it was clear the main manager wanted a certain atmosphere to be advertised at the shop window. We were not the clientele he wanted to advertise. Or perhaps he was psychic, and knew about the impending food poisoning we would have? There's that too. We went to our table and begun looking at our menus. Beyond the remnants of what I can only hope was hot sauce or ketchup, I was able to see most of my menu. We ordered 1 starter (taquitos), 2 mains (chimichangas), 1 drink (caipirinha). Whilst waiting, the waitstaff constantly shifted and moved tables and chairs around us - perhaps this was their idea of creating ambience? At one point, a server lifted a chair near his head, and accidently dropped the foot of a chair on the tip of our table. Not only was his method of chair-lifting nonsensical, it was dangerous. He bellowed "sorry!" as he scurried to the other side of the restaurant to avoid reproach The starter arrived within 7 minutes of ordering. My taquitos were piping hot, and yet they were dry and dehydrated (clearly precooked some hours before and thrown in a microwave). I wanted to be impressed by the mere speed in which they got to me, but then again that's what 90 seconds in a microwave will give you. Presentation was sloppy, my salad was dry, in spite of the Hellmann's salad dressing presumptively drizzled on top. My caipirinha was very syrupy, and although my glass was filled with at least 6 lime wedges, I did not taste the tartness, tanginess or sourness of the citrus that would have balanced the sheer volume of syrup. Our main course came shortly after. Two chimichangas - AKA Two store bought tortillas filled with a flavourless mix of mince beef and kidney beans, topped with microwaved cheese and brined jalapeno slices. This was accompanied by rice that had clearly been precooked in bulk and reheated. Outside of any subjective view, the food lacked the flavour, authenticity and basic effort one would expect from any establishment - let alone Mexican & Cuban cuisine, which is renowned for incredible flavours and colourful presentation. Our meal was cooked with minimal care or concern, and if the treatment we received wasn't already a clear indication we were not welcome at this restaurant, the food was the final rubber stamp on it.

So after dinner, we decided to check it out and try a few drinks. She had booked a table, so it wasn't a problem getting in. The table was all marked out for us with a balloon that had her name, our party size and the time. It was a cute way of marking the tables, and it went with the quirky atmosphere of the bar. Quirky? Yes, the bar is quite quirky, pretty much a hipster bastion in Horsham. Balloons? Check. A giant chessboard on the ceiling? Double check. The bathrooms being called the "garden". Oh yes. That being said, the cocktails were interesting and tasty. My partner ordered the "Glastonbooty" that was served in a ceramic boot and had an "absinthe balloon" which turned out to just be a balloon that they sprayed with absinthe. So not so exciting. Plus he said it kind of tasted like dirt. Which may have been the point. I had the "Only Mules and Horses" which came with a photo of Dell Boy and Rodney on the side. For the next round, my partner ordered a Negroni, and it was pretty bitter, even for a Negroni. I just tried shots of their Chai Bourbon and Maple Tequila. The tequila was quite sweet, but nice, but they Chai Bourbon really won me over. So yeah, it's a fun, hipster joint in Horsham. If you're in Horsham, it means it's probably the best place to go.

The place is split over two floors. Ground floor with a few bar stools and big bar and then upstairs where there is much more space for large groups round small tables and again a large bar. The decor is cool and as the name hints there is a little bit of quirky taxidermy going on along with a giant chessboard on the ceiling. You receive table service which is good however I think my only gripe is the service was a little slow to begin with and the cocktails take a while to come. The cocktail menu is awesome with lots of different cocktails available to suit all palates and are served it lots of different ways - in a beer can with a sombrero hat or in a tankard orrrr in a pretty dainty cocktail glass. I'm not sure how often they change the menu but I recommend La Vida Loco & Only Mules & Horses.
