I was there earlier this year in January, and it was my first time having a real tapas experience. Amazing good, drinks, and service! One of the servers/bartenders there is from Italy, and he was great explaining all the dishes and wines we sampled. Having a great time and a few extra drinks, I left the place not realizing I left my bag behind with a laptop inside. I was already two blocks away from the restaurant, and to my pleasant surprise, our Italian friend ran over to me with my bag. I'm from the US, and the next time I go to London, I'll definitely go back to Pix again! read more

Pix is a fun little spot. For the indecisive among us (or those who just like to sample many things), it's the perfect place. The options are on rotation even while you dine, so if nothing strikes your fancy just wait a few minutes. Overall, the food was good - not good enough to go back for seconds but enjoyable the first-time around. That said, I found it to be a bit pricey. If the food was better, I'd give 4 stars, but high-ish prices for average food = 3. Pix also has a nice interior - it's got a modern romantic feel - but there's a 'room for rent' downstairs which is super sketchy, hah. No, thank you. They do offer a lunch special, so you can sample their sample-size food on a budget. I might recommend that first; you'll get a feel for their selection before committing to a more expensive meal. read more

Novel concept, but the place is rather small and the seats and tables not very comfortable. Its the sort of place where you expect good value drinks and good value food, but the pricing is average and the food was so-so. The concept is novel - just rock up to the bar counter and choose from a selection available, no need to wait, everyone picks their own choices. Fun, novel, but nothing special. read more

We happened to come across this restaurant, and we were pleasantly surprised. We felt like walking into a pintxos bar in San Sebastian, rather than in London. There was a mix of traditional and not so traditional pintxos, and the flavors were right on point. Although the pintxos were great, my favorite thing was the crema catalana, the Catalan version of the creme brûlée... it was amazing! Service was great! read more

Im not sure that you can call the menu at Pix 'Tapas'. Pix this odd selection of bite sized foods that are trying to be spanish and tapas. Its like if you're at this big conference and the afternoon tea is 'tapas', thats what I was reminded of. The CONCEPT is cool, you go up and pick some food bits and then you eat them. Its like yum-cha, but 'spanish' Half of the options are thick french stick slices with a meat/sauce/vegetable topping. Don't get me wrong, the pork and apple is tasty, the prosciutto is tasty, the chicken also tasty.... it just shouldn't have come one giant slabs of bread. Where are the small plates to share with my friends? they just don't exist. (except maybe some olives or boring snacks) When we couldn't decide between wine or cocktails, the kind bar man suggested sangria, to which we glad agreed. It was the highlight of the meal I dare say the best sangria I've ever had, for which they get 2 stars. Would I go back? for the drinks yes and I might snack a little while I'm there too. read more

Awesome Pintxos bar! The system works like Yo Sushi, you help yourself, save the sticks that were in the dishes (small and larger sticks - each are worth a set price) and the waiter/ waitress add these up at the end of your meal and give you your bill . Quality Pintxos, great wine, great atmosphere. It's pretty busy so I'd book a table in advance. Defo recommend! read more

I think this place all depends on when you go there. On a Sunday night the food just doesn't seem all that fresh. It kinda seems and tastes a tad tired. But I'm pretty sure if you go around lunch time or just after work, it's probably fresher. But that aside, it's fun and fast and there's some interesting tapas. Pix is a cool place. I was reminded of Barcelona when we entered. The guys were cool and let us put a few things into To Go boxes so we could eat and walk. The little tapas we had were yummy, and we would be happy to go back. I especially liked the sweet potato quiche thing. Another reviewer mentioned it may be best to go during peak hours because there will probably be more options that are fresher. Cool idea though. read more

Pix, which has expanded now to include three locations in London, is a proper pixtos bar. It has a changing display of the small treats which you can casually grab whenever you like. While the quality doesn't come close to a bar in San Sebastian, it's generally decent fare however the price doesn't match. We went last night with four people and with a bottle of wine the bill came to 180 quid. Not extraordinary, but when you consider you're eating little mouthfuls of food it adds up pretty quickly. Be careful stuffing those sticks into the provided jar (how they figure out how much you eat) as all of the sudden you're going to be paying a lot more than you thought! The pixtos themselves range from fare to above average. They all have a bit too much oil for me (though in fairness, that tends to be the case with tapas). The aubergine pot was quite good as was the murcilla tapas. Pix is probably better served as a place to go have a glass of wine and a quick nibble then a place to sit down for an entire dinner. read more

Really nice way of eating. This place works in quite a nice way. You just take food and put the sticks in the glass on the table. They charge you based on the number sticks. It's nice, you just take some, eat when you're hungry, stop when you're not... It's kind of nice. The food was good too. If I was being super critical I would say you need to come when its busier so they change the food more often, otherwise some of it may sit around for a while. The drinks were good, no complaints, and the waitresses were really friendly and seemed like a good lot. Weird thing to say I know but they seemed decent. I'd recommend popping in here if you're in the area and are in that kind of hungry but not hungry mood. Be careful though, it's really easy to drop a fair amount of money in here if you don't take account of how much you've taken! read more

It's been over a year since I was in San Sebastian and glad to see a Pintxo bar in London. Quite on the fancy side when you compare it to the bars in Spain but they have a good selection of items. We had a table booked for 6:30 and they do keep a track of it to make sure you keep to your 90 minute limit. It is more than enough time to have a drink and eat as it is sort of buffet style so don't really recommend it if you wanted a long leisurely dinner. There were a few really good dishes - really liked the fried olives and croquetas. It is a bit crowded so going up to the bar to make your selection can feel a bit rushed and a bit of a let down if they don't have what you are looking for. We found the best technique is to scan the waitresses brining the food up to have the best chances the ones that are in high demand. Quite happy with the overall experience - just think it's a bit on the pricey side as it came out to about 35 pp that included just 1 drink pp. read more

On the very rare occasion that I went into central London, I always used to have my go-to place, Cafe Boheme. With the news that it recently closed for a refurbishment, I was not looking forward to a Friday night wander for food. Soho can get busy, you either have to book or queue. Plus there is the decision making as there are soooo many options. We were more to north end by Carnaby Street, so I thought I would check out my old hood. I used to work around here so went to Bar Red (no longer there), Studio Valbonne (gone), etc. Basically, the area on Kingly Street has been pedestrianised and there are loads of new places, one of which is Dishoom - a fave of mine! But of course, it was packed. Boo! It was time to try something new anyways. We walked a wee bit and was considering Dehesa, a fantastic tapas place I tried years ago, but to no avail, it would be a queue jobby. We spotted another wee tapas place across Ganton Street, Pix Pintxos Carnaby, so we headed on over. It is small, squashed even, but cosy and cool. You can slip into booths for two, which was our preference, or settle at the high tables for 4 and more. It is counter service, apparently modelled on Pintxo bars of Catalonia and the Basque region. Dotted along the bar are hot and cold tapas filled with Iberian treats. You help yourself, then they count the skewers; £2.25 for a short one, £3.25 for a longer one and present the bill. As with all tapas, mezze, etc, you can rack up a hell of a bill if you are not careful, but this was reasonably priced. Some of the "skewers" we grabbed were quince-coated chorizo and manchego cheese, spinach and sweet potato tortilla, marinated olives, morcilla, quail egg and piquilo peppers, serrano ham on tomato bread, chilli chicken kebab with mint and coriander yoghurt. There was so much to choose from and it was all very tempting. I didn't have a dessert but my Dublin visitor tried the churros with chocolate sauce. If you have a sweet tooth, there is also white chocolate pudding with strawberry compote. Yum. Whilst it is "help yourself", there is still good service. They clear your plates, talk you through the options and deliver your drinks (a nice Catalunya sauvignon blanc). They replenish the tapas quickly and for the hot dishes, they walk the room to ensure you enjoy it at optimum temperature. The only issue is, as it is so small, is when people are queuing and waiting for tables inside. If you are sat by the bar you can hardly move your elbows to eat. It is even worse if someone has long hair, as you get a dip of it on your plate. There is also the "zoo" factor where you are watched like a hawk because you are sitting down eating and they are standing RIGHT next to you wishing they were sitting and eating. That can get a little bit annoying, but busy yourself with stuffing your face and chatting to your companion, and you soon forget. Pix is not one, but at four different locations, suitably spread out. They have yet to venture into East London, but I see this on the horizon, as I can definitely see one on Bethnal Green Road, in Dalston or Old Spitalfields Market. This is not me being selfish because I live in the area (innocent face), it is just the right fit. read more

When you have two of the best Spanish restaurants in London, and you consider those as two to rival any place I have eaten in all of Spain, Pix never really had a chance. The whole vibe of the place is like fast food. Sounds harsh but it's not meant to be. You pick up the tapas from the bar yourself, seating is cramped and more pressing is that the tapas pieces are bloody HUGE. Too big! And to me even more importantly not that flavoursome. Just disappointed in general. Doesn't feel authentic. Just rushed and made for tourists who might not know Spanish food. read more

Cute little tapas bar in Soho with a really nice, intimate atmosphere. We were here late on a Monday evening after seeing a show and were the only customers in the bar. Service was faultless - extremely friendly, quick, and efficient. I liked the concept of the bar. They basically have all the tapas by the bar and you help yourself to whatever you want. Each dish has a stick in it (either small or large) and at the end of the meal they count up the number of sticks and charge you accordingly. From memory I think it was around £3ish for the small sticks and slightly more for the large sticks. Portions (as you'd expect from tapas) are small. However this means if you actually wanted a filling meal you'd end up spending a fortune! All the dishes I had (a chicken skewer with yoghurt dressing, bruschetta with prosciutto and fried quail egg, tortilla, and stuffed olives - literally 4 olives to give an idea of size) were extremely delicious and tasted fresh. I would definitely recommend this bar for a quick drink and snack but it's a shame the tapas are expensive for the portion size (especially as all the dishes are pre-prepared and self service). Our bill came to £25pp for sangria (one jug between 3 of us which worked out at about 1.5 glasses each) and food but I left still feeling quite hungry. read more

I love this place. I can always get seated even without booking in advance, which doesn't happen very often in London. I like the communal table and casual atmosphere. The whole experience is like eating dim sum, you go to the bar, pick out whatever tapas you like, each tapa is held together by a skewer. After you finish eating, they just count the number of skewers and charge you the amount. You don't have to wait for your food to be cooked and new dishes are being brought out often. My all time favorite tapas are roasted pork with apple sauce, brie, bacon and espresso chocolate mousse. There are usually some seasonal items as well. You can get in and out quickly. It is perfect for a quick meal or snack or catch up with a couple of friends. However, if you have more than 4 people in your party, you probably will have to wait for a table. read more

Wanted to give this place a try for ages. Kinda wish I hadn't....Concept is cool - self-service tapas. But the food didn't taste or look fresh at all. Couldn't really stomach more than a couple of plates. The service was terrible, sadly. Took almost an hour to get a second round of drinks. Ordered four times before I got them and only after on the fourth time getting up and speaking to the manager. Our waitress kept forgetting to bring them and then told me just to speak to the manager if I wanted them, which seemed super odd... When he did bring them (and he was lovely, to be fair!), the order was wrong, though he did fix it sharpish. Not the lovely, relaxing dinner experience you hope for. Loads of lovely joints in Soho. I do enjoy tapas, especially when I'm in Spain - the Manchego cheese, the Iberico ham, the full bodied Riocha. Lovely. Truth be told, there aren't that many great tapas places in London. Most of them are pretty average. The concept at Pix is that all the food is displayed at the bar for you to go up and choose what you want. The trouble with this is that the area is so small, that when it's really busy in the evening you find yourself in what can only be described at as tapas scrum. I dropped two salted cod balls on the floor as a result of being shoved out the way by an angry group who couldn't get a table. At one point there was a pile up at the bar where nobody could get to the food, or away from it. All this adds to the experience (if you like that sort of thing). I do like hustle and bustle so I didn't mind. The food however was just ok for me. There were lots of baguette slices with various toppings (half sandwiches basically). Nothing stood out as being exceptional. The dirty martini I had was pretty good. I think the waiter that was serving us was the most delicious thing there! Would I go back? Probably - but not for dinner, maybe just a greedy mid afternoon snack. read more

This is always my default meeting place for after-work drinks. It's central, staff are super-friendly, something in the 'buffet' for everyone, even vegetarians. Nice cocktails. Drawback of having food sitting out buffet-style is eventually it loses its freshness but items are usually tasty. Great place for small eats and drinking. Also it can get very very busy and crowded but they always seem to try to find a way to squeeze you in. read more
