I have seen Dr Joseph for six years, and have given him great reviews in the past. I have been on…read morePermanent Disability for eight years, from incurable injuries, 3 breaks in my leg, knee damage, arthritis in knees and spine, herniated disc, frozen shoulder, both sides, and acute gastritis and hepatitis with cirrhosis, and can't take NSAIDs. When my tolerance to hydrocodone/acetaminophen reached the point of constant pain with no relief, I asked to be given what I was on in Arizona, extended release morphine, according to hepatologist, the safest and most effective medication for people with liver disease, he flatly refused and said he does NOT prescribe morphine EVER. Instead he suggested ultram, a medication that has strict warning against use with liver disorders, had I not known this and taken the pills, it would have finished off my liver, and caused my death. After explaining that to him, he gave me the Fyntanal patch, a totally infective dose that the NIH showed pictures of needing 20 at once to be as effective as morphine, a polite way of saying it is useless for severe, chronic pain. His lack of knowledge of pharmacology is dangerous. Bottom line, if you only have minor problems, he is adequate, the staff excellent. But if you have any chronic serious conditions, he will not be of any help, or worse, can do you irreparable harm. When I tried to explain the problems with his ineffective methods, and provided documentation from the leading government agencies, he treated me like a skid row bum instead of a patient of 6 years. Like many of the Doctors in Florida, he should read what the Mayo Clinic told them years ago. A doctors job is largely to control pain, if they are not willing to prescribe the medications that do that, they should find another profession.

*Update , two months after the first visit I just found out they refilled the wrong generic…read moremedication and it has been detrimental to my health. Not sure what is worse, the office staff or the the attending physicians. They will waste your time, your deductible's, and energy. For simple things that can be diagnosed with a primary care physician FIRST VISIT, Smith came in read a list of medications i am on, then ordered blood test results and left the room, asked if I had any questions while half way out the door... waited two weeks for blood results, would of waited longer if I did not call and ask to have assess to the portal. When i messaged Smith and expressed concern she wrote me back with a "schedule an office visit or may try infectious disease no referral is needed for your plan" (this is taken right from the message in the portal) that sounds extreme since I am working with what I thought was going to be my primary??? I called the office to see another provider, I go in and the new provider "Darnell" did express interest in my concerns however to be safe ordered more blood test and gave a referral to a dermatologist. As I was checking out for that appointment I asked for print outs of the blood work orders and referral, however was told TWICE that it was sent electronically. I went home and made an apt for Quest the next day before work, I even emailed Darnell in the portal to confirm it was sent electronically... I go to the quest apt and they do not have the orders, well one of the quest do, the one I told the front desk THREE TIMES the day before was not the one I went to... they asked to confirm, I told them it was wrong, it was a different location *gave location* was told okay, and moved on. After wasting my time at quest, I call CH to get the orders EMAILED to me, and make another apt over a week later because of the hurricane. When I came in for this last appointment, I waited 40 mins past my appointment time before Darnell came in to the room to pull up my results and read them to me in real time, I already knew what they were when I requested my full visit records to my email , and that's where I finally saw my referral (two weeks later) because I am supposed to magically know where that referral was sent, I have nothing better to do but call around or wait on hold the upwards of 20+ mins the 5-6 times I had to call this location. When I asked what my PRIMARY was going to do for me, she stated "I'M not going to do anything". why do I have a primary ? why does my ins pay do much out for someone to look at blood test results and pass me off ? Maybe I would understand if the staff took the time to explain anything... or at least give the impression they care, and you are not just another number... SAD I read reviews and I was hopeful this would be a great location.

Dr. Rankin and his staff have always been superb. I have been a patient of his since 1988, and he…read morehas actually saved my life on two separate occasions. They try to work you in when nothing is "available", and having two locations (the other is in DeLand) helps with this. It I s true that sometimes there is a wait, but it is more than worth it for your health. The waiting is typically due to the fact that patients are listened to, and actually treated like meaningful human beings instead of cattle, like at other insurance-driven medical practices. Patience is a virtue, especially when it is for a great medical team.
