Because now, I realize how lacking all other dairy products are. Seriously. We purchased milk from High Lawn during our stay at a local long-term let with a full kitchen. We brought home milk and ice cream. When that ran out and we returned to our regular 'store bought' milk, I was like 'what am I drinking?' You don't know how good High Lawn Farms milk is, until you don't have it any more. If I lived near here, this is the only place I would get my dairy. Now, the ice cream! So, so, so good! It's not overly sweet. The flavor is just right. Again, not over done. It's 'light'. I don't know how to explain it. I got two scoops and when I saw how much ice cream that was I thought I'd 'never be able to eat all that.' But the ice cream texture is light, not heavy. It's still creamy, but not in the same way as my local farm made ice cream is made. It's light and those two scoops were just the right amount. The store offers more than milk and ice cream by the pint. They also sell a selection of High Lawn farm cheeses and frozen cuts of beef among other things. Besides the store and the ice cream trailer, you can visit the cows and calves in the barn. There are also older calves in the field by the ice cream trailer that you can pet. They come right up to the fence looking for pets. Anyway, you can see I am a fan of High Lawn Farm. Go. Don't think about it. Go. Get the ice cream. Get the milk. Compare it to your 'regular' dairy. You'll understand.

Once upon a time it was a lovely, decadent little shop and we looked forward to indulging in chocolates for our Tanglewood visit. Not anymore. For the last 4 years, the service has been poor and they are out of chocolates on a regular basis. After 2020, they asked for patience which we gladly gave but they adopted dismissive staff and a lack of customer care as standard operating procedure. If you go, be prepared for disappointment.

The custom rig they pulled to the fair was impressive: dual vertical/direct and horizontal/offset cookers - fired by hardwood - and the aroma drew me in like a gnat to a flame. But the brisket was tasteless shoe leather and the pulled pork a meaty mush (no pull strands) drowned in a forgettable tomato based sauce. The sides were little better: bland, watery and fibrously chewy beans with a helping of cole slaw swimming in thinly seasoned mayo. Only the cornbread was respectable -- but they only served up a 1" cube of this with each meal (seriously?!) Ok, so street fairs are not restaurant cookery and should be judged less harshly (hence the two stars) -- and I get that this is a catering outfit that probably mostly does fund raisers for local municipalities, fire departments and churches -- but hey -- at least serve up edible Q if you represent yourself as flamboyantly skilled as these folks did. Disappointing at any price and even my dog, who likes Q, would not eat the rest of my brisket.
