I have a tick bite that hasn't completely healed in over two months. It doesn't itch or bother me, though I worry about it. All of the dermatologists I contacted in my area - Oakland - either weren't accepting new patients or were difficult / impossible to reach, so I decided to see Dr. Chiang, even though his Fremont office is 35-40 minutes away. Dr. Chiang's staff is efficient & also asked if I had any other questions besides my tick bite - & I did have minor issues that I wouldn't otherwise have seen a doctor for. Dr. Chiang was nice, warm, friendly & smart doctor. He prescribed some ointment to help my tick bite heal & prescribed antibiotics to address possible Lyme disease. Doctor helped me with my minor problems: 1) dry skin on the back of my neck - turned out to be eczema, to which I apply the same ointment I'm using on my tick bite; 2) plantar warts on both feet, which Doctor "killed" by freezing; and 3) a cholesterol spit under my left eye, which doctor said is fine & I can "treat" by addressing my overall cholesterol levels. Dr. Chiang practices out of their Pleasanton office on Saturdays, so I'll go there for my follow up. It's much closer, about 20 minutes away! read more

Dr. Chiang manages time very well, which is not easy in the Bay Area since dermatologists are in high demand and usually very busy. 2. His diagnosis was fast, accurate, and professional. I gave a simple description of my symptoms and concerns, and he immediately examined my skin carefully. Then the nurse gave me a five-page case report he had prepared. I was amazed because most doctors do not take the time to make sure you fully understand your condition. Dr. Chiang really went the extra mile to give me the right information about pityriasis rosea, which shows his experience and dedication. 3. The treatment plan was excellent. The medication he prescribed worked quickly, and my recovery time matched exactly what he predicted. This kind of accuracy only comes from years of experience and seeing many similar cases, which made me feel very confident in his care. 4. The pricing was reasonable. Since my condition was not cosmetic, insurance covered it. I only paid for the initial consultation. At my follow-up, he even checked a mole on my hand at no extra charge, which I really appreciated. I can only speak of my own experience, but I was VERY pleased with Dr. Chiang and his entire staff, which although shockingly young (at least compared to me! LOL), were all mature and exuded a professionalism well beyond their years. Dr. Chiang was very nice and knowledgable and I felt very well cared-for... no "attitude" like my old dermatologist. He does speak rather quickly, so if you're hearing impaired, you might consider another doctor. I had 3 moles that I wanted checked. Two ended up being age spots and I didn't have to do anything with them. One was a mole I have had for a very long time. According to Dr Chiang it was slightly suspicious and recommended I remove it with a shave biopsy. It went well. It's been a week and it is starting to heal. He first said there was a 1-3% chance of it being concerning; however, after removing it he lowered the concern to .01%. I have received the results and it is benign. Just want to leave another 5 stars review for Dr. Chiang, who is extremely approachable, communicative, and empathetic. Outside of his fantastic medical expertise already which I don't need to mention, here are 3 other attributes that work with my busy life style. 1. Dr. Chiang personally response to all the emails and reply within a matter or hours! Being able to receive an overnight email respond from Dr. Chiang when I wake up is an extreme well being feeling for me, knowing all my urgent questions are answered and/or Rx requests sent without the need to make a phone call or another visit. 2. Weekly Saturday office hours! For people that just can't get away during weekdays, this is a big plus. How many Drs. giving up their Saturday hours and helping out the patients? Not too many, if any at all in the Bay area. 3. Lastly, both the entire staff members in the Fremont and Pleasanton offices are fantastic. They are caring, friendly, and just make the whole Dr visiting experience enjoyable and fun. Highly recommend Dr. Chiang at Berman Skin Institute. Kaiser was giving me the runaround on a mole that was 12mm x 10mm for over a year, saying it could be removed with liquid nitrogen, then to just wait, then that it could not be removed with liquid nitrogen, then saying removal would not be covered because it's cosmetic. In a virtual appointment, 2 in person appointments, and emails to Kaiser Dermatology nobody had concerns for cancer. I went to Berman for the consultation and fully expected to have to wait but the medical assistant let me know that Dr. Chiang would remove it that day if I wanted!! They injected Lidocaine for numbing and cut the mole through, though it wouldn't stop bleeding with pressure so they cauterized it. I appreciated Dr. Chiang's discussion with me and planning to minimize scarring. He did express concern with it being irregularly shaped so he sent it to the lab to be biopsied. This was an added cost that I agreed to but I'm glad and relieved to have had someone show concern, thankfully the results were good. All in all it was a cost for consultation, the procedure, and the labs. read more

He's very knowledgeable and informative. Showed me all the treatments available, explained what's most suitable for my condition. He even printed out a copy for me to take home. Dr Chiang and his team are very friendly and approachable. Don't let the appointment making process discourage you from coming in to see him. He has no control over their scheduling department. And he actually reached out to me on Yelp to schedule the appointment for me!!! It's worth a shot to reach out to him personally. He might be able to help. I'm 79 years old and had a skin issue that bothered me over a year. It's a too small case for regular surgeon and too deep a case for normal dermatologist. I visited my Stanford Med. doctors 5 times with no treatment till yesterday. I went to see Dr. Charles Chiang. Reservation is easy for next day right away. Clinic is roomy and clean. Staff are friendly, happy and professional. Dr. Chiang was very responsive and answered any questions I asked. He did treatments right away and made a biopsy to be inspected by UC San Francisco Medical center, one of the best pathologist Lab. My wife was with me. She's happy that I finally found someone can treat me. Dr. Charles noticed and said "Happy wife is happy life.". Wow. He's so human. I first met Dr. Chiang when I was 18 to discuss my acne struggles after years and years working with other doctors and having nothing work for me. He recommend Accutane. My mother was with me at the appointment and was concerned about this drug. Dr. Chiang was very very thorough in his explanation of the drug, its side effects and spent time to answer all of our questions. Ultimately I started taking Accutane for about a year, seeing Dr. Chiang every month during that time. I never felt rushed in my appointments with him. He always took the time to answer all my questions. My skin cleared up for the first time in my entire life. Accutane is a scary drug with many side effects but I trusted Dr. Chiang and I'm glad I did. I ended up visiting him again after my acne treatments ended to discuss hair loss I was experiencing. I asked him if I could pick his brain about my current skin care routine and he sat with me for what felt like 45 minutes printing information, sharing skin care product suggestions and answering all questions I had wanted to ask a professional about all my skin care products. My wife Paulina had a severe allergic reaction and we were able to quickly find Dr. Charles Chiang on short notice and we scheduled an appt with him immediately. She was seen about 12hrs after being admitted to the ER and was able to consult with Doc, expressing and explaining what's going on with her. Although it was just a consultation, our experience with Dr. Charles was nothing short of great -- transparently speaking. He was also able to give us a follow up call later in the evening (she initially contacted him first to ask more Q's about her condition) and was able to help us understand things a whole lot better and was very honest with us about a couple more things that we needed to hear. Bottom line: if you want one of the best dermatologists in the Bay Area, you're going to have to pay the money for it because frankly it's never going to be cheap to see any docs around for that matter. My favorite dermatologist. Have been seeing him for a couple of years now every few months. He is so sweet , professional, and has a calm gentle manner. Very approachable. I remember I had a written list of 10-12 questions I rattled off when my husband first went to see him. He patiently answered each one of my questions without judgment; it was then that I decided I wanted to see him as well. He also made sure that as a woman, I was comfortable with him as my doctor by asking if I would prefer a female nurse there for any visits/ procedures as well. I appreciate that. I always have questions for him and he always answers with knowledgeable advice. (Including real life products/ things I could be doing for better skin outcomes).
