The good side I guess is the fact that one store sells men's, women's and children's shoes so if you wished you could get everything you needed in one store which is great. The bit I am disappointed about is the fact that there isn't much variety any more, each section has only a very small selection of shoes to choose from, I can glance at the women's section and know instantly that what I am looking for isn't there. Other than that the shop is pretty big but the décor is just white and grey which is slightly boring, the staff seem helpful.

The shop is located in the large village of Woodford Halse near Daventry in Northamptonshire. The shop is a really traditional shop, the locally iconic 'train symbol' is famous in the area. Every pair of shoes we have bought there have always been of good quality and lasted for ages. The shop always has a friendly, family atmosphere and there is always a wide variety and choice of shoes and other footwear. There are few negatives, though sometimes it could be said the shop was messy. Occasionally we have been in, and it has appeared disorganised. Though that is only occasionally. A good value, friendly store, locally serving the community for decades.

I have lovely dark brown Loake boots which were factory seconds (you would have no idea), and 7 years later they are still mint: they cost me £45 while perfect: versions cost over £200. Kids shoes are also bargains here and we are not talking the cheapo made in china stuff. Clarks and Start Rite at sensible prices - what could be better than a shop full of shoes, where the whole family can leave with something they like? The only thing a bit disappointing about this store is that I find on occasions this shoe store is filled with one style of shoe when that particular shoe is in fashion, when I find it like this I walk in and then its straight back out. You'll wade through lots of crap (Barker had the widest selection of any of the stores we visited, though very little was fantastic) to find a pair to love, of that much I am sure. It was not until I spotted the last box of 3.5's that I had any hope I might find what I was after. My eventual purchase made me especially happy because the Minerva model was a shoe I'd had on my target list prior to coming to Northampton (and one that is currently available in Barker retail outlets at double the price.) In sum, Barker is worth a stop if you're already up in Northampton but not worth making a special trip from London for.

I damaged my brown leather shoes on the day I bought them. I was distraught. I rang the shop and was advised to return them to see what they could do. I received them back today. WOW! I seriously cannot tell where the damage was. Fantastic service and craftsmanship to be proud of. Church shoes are the best. It is a pleasure and a privilege to wear and own them. Thank you.

The store is very big and all shoes are set out in sections so for example you have one section with only size 6 shoes and one section with only size 7 ect this is a very handy thing because if you find a pair of shoes you like you know they are going to fit you and they have your size, instead of going to a normal shoe store thinking you've found the shoes you need then asking for your size and they don't have it, then having to start searching all over again. Down side to this store is that it is actually really expensive I wanted a pair of black shoes for a wedding and the only pair decent enough for the occasion were £42!!! I bought them as I only had an hour to spare before the wedding but I didn't end up wearing them and I definitely swiftly took them back for a refund.

They have a lot of what I would call 'factory shop' shoes such as end of line or over ordered stock. They do stock brands such as Clarks and Hush Puppies aswell as a few lines of sports shoes. The boots are still priced at around £70 though and the shoes were on average between £30 and £50 which was more than I was prepared to pay from what I thought was a cheaper shop. I would go back, but only if there was a sale on. There's quite a lot of parking spaces there so that shouldn't be a problem. It's near to Maccy D's and Starbucks so you can get food too.
