I have worked with Schwab for many years and had a wonderful experience today. I am away from home and happened to be next door to a Schwab office in Cincinnati, Ohio. I walked in, without an appointment, and asked if an investment advisor might be available to assist with a specific question. I waited five minutes. The advisor was outstanding. He was knowledgeable and thorough and answered almost all of my questions. But even more importantly, he told me that there were others at Schwab who were even more knowledgeable about the most detailed and nuanced elements of my question. He set up a call for me from one expert, which I received soon after. That advisor was even more helpful. I feel totally prepared. read more

Highly recommend investing at Schwab! The customer service, the tutorials and information on their think or swim platform is amazing. U can setup for free 7 calls for 45min w a specialist yo learn how to invest, utilize the platform, watch a videos, read articles, practice trading w paper money. Look at charts and technicals, options chain etc. So helpful. And the mobile app is also super easy to navigate to do trades. U can call customer service 24/7 talk anytime to a specialist after trading hours on teachings etc. So fabulous! Very impressed. read more

Schwab is terrible when it comes to trying to get money out of your account. They are like the Gestapo when you want to take your own money elsewhere like for a real estate purchase. They want the address, the settlement statement, etc.. How is that their business? Their computer system glitches constantly and doesn't send alert messages that a trade has executed and they don't automatically move funds into a money market type fund. So, you don't know it's executed and make .15% interest instead of the 3.5% in the fund, but you have to request the money be transferred into the fund. I don't know of any other investment firm that does this. read more

I made an appointment with Robin, well I am sad to say that it was not pleasant. I came in explaining my circumstances and that I really didn't kniw anything about investing. But what i did know I ask questions she literally did not want to help me and after me asking multiple times for her to explain index funds compared to etf's she first said they are the same then said they were different so I left never getting anything accomplished and more confused than when I went in. In August of this year I opened an account online with Shwab in anticipation of money to be received from my late father's estate, also with Charles Schwab. I then received a request to send in a hard (paper) copy of the application which I did from overseas. Fedex cost: $ 60. I then received a request to send in a signed and notarized letter of authorization which I did. Cost: $ 30. I was then told that I had to send in a copy of my ID which I did. Cost: $ 6. I was then told that the ID was illegible and that I would have to resend it which I did. Cost : $ 7. I funded my account last week by linking my checking account from another institution to my Schwab account and purchased some shares of stock. When I went to sign onto my account I found that I was locked out and I had to call, which I did. I was told that I was under investigation for fraud and that my shares had been SOLD and my funds were returned to my originating bank and that if I wished to proceed, I would have to write a letter of explanation and send in proof of my bank account and funds which I did. Cost: $ 7. Instead of communicating with me or asking me for information, C. Schwab liquidated my account and accused me of fraud. I'm not sure how I could defraud myself since the funds came from my own personal account but in any case, this apparently is how Charles Schwab treats its customers. At this point, I have very little faith and confidence in Charles Schwab to hold and manage my account and to act professionally and courteously towards its customers. This has been going on for THREE FULL MONTHS. It is an outrage. They offer no solutions, no apologies and no consideration for their unprofessional behavior and attitude. Follow up to my story: After PROVING that I have funds and that the funding account is in my name, I called three different times and finally spoke to a Schwab rep today who told me that they CLOSED my account. Once again, no call, no email, no notification whatsoever. Caveat emptor. On the plus side, I'm glad I found out how awful they are BEFORE sending in a big deposit. Disgraceful treatment and service. My spouse died in October '24. I knew he had an IRA account with Schwab. Schwab said no. When I went in for an estate meeting and common accounts evaluation, LO and BEHOLD--There it was! the IRA had been "found." Also, recently my accountant asked why was my spouse still listed as a trustee? Why are the securities still at original cost? Why hadn't a MRD been made on the IRA for '24? I had filled out and returned ALL of the paper work given me. Bottom line, finding more incompetence than I care to at Schwab. Will move my money. read more

The El Paso national office is uninformed and uncaring. Am a busy 80s political professional and in early July sought to transfer a campaign account(registered with Ca Secy of State) from one broker to Schwab, as my son is their good customer. During July and August I completed 19 pp forms, obtained a EIN as requested, chose "political" from long list of various accounts, they returned the 19pp by US mail, I returned it with additional requested information, TWO MONTHS LATER(early Sept.) they call to say: "Schwab does not have political accounts, your account was opened in error before final processing, fact that your other broker had a full account for campaign is immaterial, Schwab operates with different policies". I AM A LONG TERM CUSTOMER OF CHARLES SCHWAB FOR MYSELF EMPLOYMENT IRA AND ANOTHER ACCOUNT. This is a fantastic company, with easy to field and work through programs, ratings, wish lists, and customer service. There is nothing better out there. I have NOT used the premium services but I may in the future, where they set up your account with an investment advisor. If you are retired and want to trade stocks, say it is a small part of your portfolio, I can't recommend them highly enough. I have read some of the bad reviews, but I would suggest that many are folks that were mad to begin with. Or did not ask the right questions. Emotions run high when it involves money. When my daughter studied abroad, we set up a Charles Schwab account for her so she could use the debit card easily. Because it worked so well, we tried to set one up for ourselves 3 years later. Wow, what a difference. We have had to contact them by phone 3 times so far and wait 2 weeks for paperwork verification. Long story short, I will not receive my debit card in time for my trip. Thanks for nothing! This has been a huge hassle and now it will be very difficult to travel. I was told to expect everything to go through with no problems after each phone call. Planning on transferring my account to another brokerage firm at the end of this year. Overall I have found that the Schwab website lacks transparency and is structured to make trading without broker assistance full of pitfalls. This of course results in additional fees. When you encounter an issue with a trade, customer service answering calls are not very knowledgeable and and have very poor follow-up. My assigned account manager is equally of little value and only reaches out when he has a service they want to sell. read more

I have been a client of Schwab for over 30 years and extremely satisfied with their investment business. Unfortunately the bank is a disappointment - specifically "electronic" bill pay. Certain payment thresholds require a physical check be issued to payees and mailed versus electronic funds transfer. This can result in late fees and interest charges when the payment does not arrive on the due date. The bank cannot provide written policies or explain what thresholds or payees trigger this practice. Interestingly the payment was to a credit card company which I could set up a payment on their site to send funds electronically from Schwab Bank. Need to do better or have written policies available to explain your practices read more

The company (Charles Schwab) is a cutthroat company. They try to liquidate your assets to their best interest and pass it on to the big investors within their own affiliated partnering groups. They take over smaller brokers to dominate their own patterns and falsifying practices. Their reviews on companies are biased and not accurate. Even their pricing information on the premarket or aftermarket are not correct. Their policy does not allow you to take them to the court or file any lawsuit against them. Try to stay from them. I have been having problems with Charles Schwab for over a month now. I asked them to sell bonds and then issue a check. First, they missed the deadline to sell the bonds and did not tell me. I had to call them to find out why they were not sold. They said the person who was suppose to do it, just did not. I had to have them sell them another day. Once again, no communication about why they weren't all sold that day. I had to call them to find out. Then once they were sold, they were suppose to send out a check. I assumed it was done, but after 13 days, I was told the check did not arrive. I called Schwab and asked them for tracking information. They said they send it out regular mail with no tracking. I'm not even sure I believe they sent it out. They said they would put a stop payment on it and send the check out overnight. Needless to say, that did not happen. I waited all day and the check did not come. I called to find out the tracking number and was told they missed the UPS cutoff for overnight mail. They did not think it was important enough to call and let me know that. I then asked if it was send out today. They said yes, but when I asked for tracking information, I was told they don't have that information until tomorrow. Once again, I have not confidence that they even sent the check out. We all know that when you send something out UPS, you immediately get a tracking number. Why wouldn't Charles Schwab. This is not a company I want handling my investments. I have a number of investment accounts at Schwab since the transfer from TD Ameritrade. I had a financial advisor who did all of the interface with them so I only had experience as far as checking my accounts online. I recently parted ways with my advisor and needed to have some changes made to my accounts and wanted to look into Schwab wealth management. I called my local office in Woodbury, MN and could not talk to anyone there directly. Calls were all routed to different national call centers. They offered to contact the local office to ask them to contact me directly. That didn't happen so I went into the branch. The person at the front desk was in the middle of what seemed to be a complicated matter with an account holder. I was pretty appalled that this person had to transact their business in the lobby while the receptionist answered phone calls and directed customers who walked in. And of course my husband and I also had a front row seat to their business transaction. I approached the desk and asked her if there was anyone we could talk to for help with our accounts. She said the only person who could help us was her. I told her I would have been happy to make an appointment but they are unreachable by phone. She finally finished with the person in front of us and proceeded to question me about what I needed. I told her I did not discuss my personal financial affairs in a public lobby. What a bush league operation! I would transfer my accounts elsewhere but I can't liquidate all my holdings to accomplish that. I am thoroughly disgusted with my knowledge of Schwab so far. In the end, the receptionist looked up my accounts, and in a very surprised voice told me I qualified to talk to a financial advisor. I have now been honored with an appointment for next week. I was anticipated on investing over $100,000 for 2025. I had three brokerage firms to work from that included Charles Schwab. For each broker, I started small investing less than $10,000 to learn about its service/s (pros/cons). Needless to say, Charles Schwab FAILED miserably! After placing an order investing into their fund SCHD of over $6,000, I held the fund for 2 days checking my account periodically on a daily basis. After 3 days Schwab mysteriously erased my account rendering my balance $0 in quandary. Even though I contacted Schwab to determine the error, they were unable to justify the mishap. Hence, I filed a complaint with SEC and CFPB for assistance. After the complaints were filed, Schwab closed my accounts and later reinstated my accounts without the history...very deceptive to say the least. But you don't have to take my word for it, just read the overall reviews and complaints that go along with this business practices that they seem to refuse to correct! Afterall, trusting them with your money...? In reverence to brevity, I will NEVER do business with Schwab and hope this will help others in searching for a better broker. read more
