My boys did the summer camp through the ymca, and then we joined for weekly classes. They enjoy the classes, and the instructor is great!

He's an awesome instructor and knows how to run a business. He supports the community from law enforcement to women's defense, to fund raisers supporting the military. As with any business that has a monthly membership, it's assumed you're attending unless you cancel your membership in person. Even Planet Fitness requires you to cancel in person. Instruction-wise, he's had a number of students go on to win first place at the many competitions he requires his students to attend before being promoted to a new belt. You don't have to compete at all of the competitions, but you do need to compete at one. I'm good with this because a competition is the only place a fighter can fight a total stranger, which is usually the main reason a person wants to get into a self defense class in the first place. He teaches legitimate self-defense. This isn't an after-school self esteem building school for your kid. Whether you're a child or an adult, you're going to be fighting each other and learning how to put knuckles on foreheads.

My kids look forward to coming to MMA always! The Beaufort MMA Senseis' abilities to build children up with confidence has worked wonders on my middle son who went from shying away from every situation and being timid to a child filled enough with confidence in himself that he willing engages and participates in tasks with others in all aspects of his life. My two sons went from being bullied and unsure of people and situations to being confident in making good choices to stand up for themselves and others to deescalate situations in the least confrontational way.

I was looking for some type of martial arts besides karate so I tried this spot out. Right right away they gave me one week of Jujitsu and MMA classes for free. After the first day my children were hooked! I was surprised to see so many families and adults participating here because it is located in the Omni fitness gym. At first it was a little hard to find but as soon as I walked in the door I knew exactly where to go because of the boxing ring, octagon, stand up punching bags and matted floor that took half of the facility. The staff is amazing! The couple that are the main instructors are very good with children and they maintain a high level of discipline. They have other assistant instructors that help out and who look to be in very good shape and are in the amateur fighting business. They have boxing classes, kickboxing classes mixed martial arts, jujitsu and other classes for both kids and adults. Both of my children signed up for one month of MMA and jujitsu twice a week from 5-630 pm for $190. I thought this was an unbelievable deal and my kids are absolutely worn out and hungry at the end. I so glad I found this place.

I seems as if they keep the equipment on the floor just to make it seem full. The staff told me they are getting new equipment in a few weeks but what the heck am I supposed to do until then? The only real thing I see coming of use is maybe a class if I can (not the reason I joined), or the pool. And the pool is already booked out for classes and whatnot so the adult swim or family swim is only a half hour block...usually when I'm at work. I cancelled my membership on the spot and am mad at myself for wasting money on this sorry establishment.

I am partial to this location because it is the one I grew up with- I took gymnastics here. I'm pretty sure the gymnastics facility is exactly the same as it was 20+ years ago when I attended. The best part about this gym (now that I'm an adult) and location is the child watch- it is open 7 days a week. So, if you have kids, you can work out every day almost all day long (2 hour limit). M-F the child watch is open from 8-8, Saturdays from 8-1, and Sundays i think from 12:45-3:45. It seems like a lot of gyms in the area either don't offer childcare or if they do the hours are really limited. There are many different classes offered as well as fitness coaches/trainers if you want that. There are two cardio rooms, a small one with just a few machines and a larger one upstairs with maybe 10 treadmills, a handful of bikes and I think a couple of ellipticals. I typically come here a few days/week with my two littles, drop them off at the daycare, then go running through downtown Summerville (you are required to stay on the campus while you have your kids in the childcare unless you are going on a run in which case I think you just leave them with your cell phone # and then off you go) or I do strength training in the weight rooms. Like every gym this one gets busy from around 4-7 so you may have to fight a fellow 9-5er for a parking spot and then a machine. After 7 the teenagers usually come out for their daily bulking/mirror staring sesh. During the daytime you can almost always find a machine easily since the people that come are typically SAHMs and older people coming in for either pool time or the daytime fitness classes. During the weekdays this location is very popular with older people, they like to come hang out in the community room and chit chat and sometimes play ping pong. The social scene here for 55+ is pretty poppin. Happy sweating!
