We stumbled on this cafe while in town for the weekend. They have all that you would expect, coffee,tea, lattes,etc, but also have fresh lemonade that they offer as different drinks. We were greeted immediately upon walking in by the friendly barista who took our order. She made our drinks and then brought them to our table. I had the brown sugar latte, husband had an Arnold Palmer, and both were exactly what we wanted! Atmosphere is obviously geared toward kids, and they have a playroom off the back where you can hear the kiddos playing. If you're looking for a quiet space to get some work done, this is not the space, so get your drink to go. Tons of seating and open space. This is a genius idea allowing parents to grab a coffee, meet for a playdate, or just be somewhere besides home with the kiddos! Mellow and Play Cafe is a wonderful coffee and pastry shop where you can be refreshed, relax, and occupy the kids in one location. I had such a good time experiencing quality coffee and tranquility while the kids could go make use of the bounce house park in the back. My husband ordered a salted caramel cold brew while I enjoyed the honey lavender cold brew. When I tell you the richness and smoothness was present in every sip I'm not exaggerating. I really enjoyed the drink and it's so cool that they provide a place for the children. You can even book a child's party here if you'd like. From just this one visit I can highly recommend them. The coffee shop part is great. It's great coffee, a solid range of flavor options, delicious baked goods, and a nice set of options for little ones. The play side of Mellow and Play was nice but just not worth the cost to get in. It was 94* out today and it didn't take us long to notice there was no air conditioning in the indoor playground. There were a few table top fans that were no where near the play space and then one of the big fans that inflates the jump castles was being used as a fan. By the time we'd been there for 30min, we were SWEATING. I'm unsure if their AC was out but the general set up made me think they simply don't have AC in a space made for small children. Which, in cooler climates, would be fine BUT not here in the South in the summer. read more

Took kids here for the first time ever to attend a birthday party. Kids had a blast! We closed the place down and still they didn't want to leave. They sell coffee and cold drinks in the front, play space in the back. Remember socks. Adults are allowed in the play area and they even have sofas. Service was friendly. read more

Pretty decent spot my kiddo enjoyed it, however toys seem secondhand and not enough toys for the bigger kiddos. I visited Mellow & Play Cafe in the morning on a week day. They have over a hundred toys including a giant blow-up slide, basketball hoop/ball, play kitchen, and manual ride-on cars. I love that there is a cafe attached and the play area really kept my child's interest. Parents were supervising their own child/children. I do feel like the age range of 0-8 is a bit too wide. When a kid is 6-8 years old, they are moving with more force and are typically less supervised by the parent. At one point, an older kiddo was moving fast in a ride-on car and I had a moment of panic that he would bowl over my toddler--it was fine, he missed and there wasn't another close call during the visit--but I definitely think the age range is a bit too wide; even public playgrounds typically have 2-5 year old play sets then a separate play set for older kids. read more

The big kids were throwing toys, and racing around on the toddler cars with no supervision from their parents. We decided to check out Mellow & Play Cafe today due to being cooped up from the rain. Our 13 month old daughter had a lot of energy today. When we arrived, I first saw the cafe. I knew I'd be hitting it up for a drink. I ordered a vanilla latte and a lemonade (For $1 using a promo code on an app from their website). The lemonade was fresh squeezed right in front of you. It was absolutely delicious. The latte was one of the best I've had. The syrup was homemade and not too sweet. The play area was a little smaller than expected, but still offered plenty of stuff for Nora to do! A few of the toys were worn down or didn't work, but there was so many other things that she didn't seem phased when something was down. The blow up slide was one of her favorite things to do with her dad. She made a lot of new friends and was very excited to be there and terribly sad when we were packing her up to go. First time visiting. I'm certainly impressed with the service and cleanliness of this business. The place is big enough for kids to play and run around without bumping into each other. They have three bouncing houses; a slide, an obstacle type and a boat. The coffee shop has a variety of pastries including muffins & croissants. And of course a nice selection of coffee. We tried a large latte and a caramel macchiato. Both were delicious and better tasting that anything at Starbucks. Excellent coffee! The prices are very reasonable with plenty of drink and snack choices. The music playing in the playground is modern and set to the perfect level, good enough to carry a conversation without having to yell at one another. The playground has a seating area with stools high enough to watch over the kids. They also have 5 couch and love seats right in the middle of the playground with plenty of toys around. I simply love this concept. The two separate bathrooms are accesible from the playground and coffee area. They have changers and plenty of supplies, but better yet, they are very clean!! In a nutshell; this place is great for kids and parents. Very strong WiFi and other amenities. Great job guys! We'll be back. read more

My grandsons absolutely love this place and can't get their shoes off fast enough to get onto the play area. The equipment is up to date and the environment is very clean. Wil, the owner is crazy friendly and you feel "right at home" from the first visit to the fiftieth. A lot of people spend a fortune taking their kids to McD's for an unhealthy snack or meal and then let their kids and teens play in that tiny playground area. (Who knows when it was cleaned last?!?) The children get to expend some great energy in a wide open area with 3 HUGE jump castles while the parents relax with a cup of coffee, or join their kids in the fun! Plus, there's healthy snack options for everyone. They're open and flexible with various activities and events for Meetup groups and homeschoolers. Great for networking! I was at Mellow & Play Cafe recently for a family member's 3rd birthday party. I think the concept of this place is pretty great, and every one of the kids seemed to have a blast. I love that they have some snacks and coffee drinks for the adults to enjoy while the kids are playing. The room for the birthday setup was pretty small, but given that the kids spent most of the time in the play area, it wasn't too bad. We were squished in there for singing and cake, but it was manageable. The play center is cool, especially with the large inflatables, which are clearly the star attraction. The area in the middle for the smaller children was also a good idea. My only note would be that the space itself and the items in it seem to need a bit of updating. Everything appeared to be a bit on the older side, and a lot of the toys seemed "well loved". Regardless of this, the kids seemed to have a great time, and the consensus from the adults was that it's going to be a nice place to take the kids for a few hours here and there to get some energy out! read more

We have been taking her here since she was 2 years old and she ALWAYS has a blast...never gets restless or bored...in fact 9 times out of 10 we have to drag her out crying because she doesn't want to leave (I always share a sympathetic smile with other parents who are experiencing the 'time to leave mellow & play' meltdown) Everything about Mellow & Play is Awesome-from the clean, safe & engaging play area with zero blind spots, to the the delicious coffee & snacks, to the options of places to sit while your kiddo plays-the coffee bar to get some work done or lounging on the couch. We also hosted our daughter's birthday party here and it was the BEST! I was still getting comments from other parents 1-2 months post-party of how absolutely awesome our party was! Will & Sarah are just the sweetest & are so invested in their business---it honestly feels like you are going to visit them in their own home. It is so warm, inviting & comfortable. Great place. Met another mom here with het 2 kids and paid for 2 hours so our 4 kids could play. It was great. Small door keeps wondering kids in the "safezone" the bathroom had a changing table and extra wipes and diapers if you needed a spare. The tiny kids had an entire middle section to play and the big kids had the slides and bounce house, pirate ship and other stuff to jump on. All the kids passed out as soon. As we got in the car. My son is only 8 months and he loved it! Daughter is 8 and she loved it too. You can buy packages to come more often or you can of $7 per kid to jump when you want. This was our first time here, and I was impressed. Using the 50 percent off playtime coupon, purchasing an iced vanilla latte, and a large double espresso for $12.00 was worth it to me. My espresso was delicious and my wife's latte was also very good. Our two year old has never been around so many kids or toys all at once, and boy did he love it. All of the kids were so good to him. It was great to see how the adults all looked out for one another's little ones. The pirate bounce house had a slide that was age appropriate for our son, he loved that as well. There are two bounce houses, and a large blow up slide which provide adequate space during peak hours. There were plenty of toys and ride on's available as well. The restroom was clean and stocked with wipes. There is a wooden changer with a soft pad in the restroom. We can not wait to go back! read more

Fun place for my grandson. We came here for Halloween as a safer alternative. There are three jump castles and in the center of the floor there is a section for smaller children to play. There are couches surrounding the area for the smaller children to play. When you walk in the scent of coffee welcomes you. I am not a coffee drinker but it smells really good. The employees are nice and friendly. The fee for the children to play in the jump castle is $5 which was discounted. It's a nice set up allowing children to interact with other children. read more

I used to come to mellow and play often. It's a fun place to take the kids and entertain them. It's a bit of an odd location so close to the road, but I understand rent prices and the desire to be in a central location for Summerville and North Charleston and such. It's also nice that they have snacks, and I always felt like my kids (who can't have dairy) had more than enough options there. All pluses in my book! The reasons I (and many others) have stopped going are twofold: first, and most importantly, there is often (always?) anti-vaccination propaganda hanging on the very visible bulletin board. Considering this is a place young babies play, it is extremely concerning that they seem to support not vaccinating children. If instead they follow overwhelming scientific evidence that vaccines are crucial for a healthy society (and especially should be present in children playing with infants), they should not allow these to be posted. Many former customers have gone so far as to warn people with newborns or very young children to stay away because of this concern - see the measles outbreaks in the Pacific Northwest due to pockets of unvaccinated children. Not worth the risk!! Second, and not nearly as important, but still bothersome...the way the (male) owner acts toward customers is...unique. He is VERY "friendly" and is constantly "joking" in a way that is disarming. For instance, if you smile politely and try to order coffee, he will likely say "no!" Before waiting a moment to say, "just kidding what do you want?" This may seem trivial, but considering every single interaction with him from multiple people is this way, it's just...uncomfortable. He does seem to be an actually nice man, but the way he jokes is just not enjoyable for many people. It feels like teasing, and as a paying customer (with kids next to me...who I teach not to tease...) I and many friends have agreed that they don't like it. Please consider taking down the anti-vaccine literature and get better at reading social cues, and you may find a lot of your customers coming back! read more
