Love Charlie's chocolate factory. It's a Burnaby institution. I purchase all my holiday and special occasion chocolates here. They have an amazing selection of special shapes and, given enough notice and a fee, can make something special for your business or special occasion. There is a chocolate village with a river running through it that the kids love. They sell chocolate and candy making supplies at reasonable prices. Charlie himself, still comes out to greet customers in his red and white vest, even though he looks like he's in his 90's. Highly recommended. read more

This local chocolatier has been around for decades! 50 years in 2021! Despite Covid the place was bustling! They sell quality chocolate, Callebaut chocolate from Belgium. They offer chocolates for every occasion along with custom orders. Many years ago, the company I worked at had custom chocolates made from Charlie's. It was a hit! A great way to support local businesses. There's chocolates for vegans and diabetics (maltitol). How sweet that is! There's also bulk candy (salt water taffy & hard candy), bulk chocolate, no sugar chocolates, and nuts. They even sell supplies such as boxes, bags, foils, & molds for your own creations. I got some chocolates and bags in various sizes. Be aware of the prices charged as the cashier originally rang through a higher price than what was marked on the item. They don't have a scanner. There's two locations - one off Boundary and Canada Way (with a few complimentary parking spots in front of the store) and the other in Port Coquitlam. May they be around for another 50! Charlie's chocolate factory has been around for Years They have a great selection of all sorts of different types of chocolate they're not cheap But a great selection their prices have gone up on all of their confectionary supplies and it really show I went to pick up some foils for making chocolates and some other items and I was so surprised how expensive they were they might want to lower their prices a bit I picked up a small amount of chocolates and it costs me $10 and they just threw it in a little bag not very nicely done I was not very impressed When I ate the chocolates I wanna say about 50% of them were very old tasting I was very surprised that nuts were not fresh I bought something with marshmallow in it and the marshmallow was really stale Would I buy their chocolates again this chocolates out there that are so much better yes they do have a lot of specialty to items there but are they worth paying for I don't know I could have gone on the internet and found things half the price I know Easter is there biggest time of year for selling chocolates so you think everything would be super fresh but it wasn't The service is great the ladies there are very kind and very nice The actual chocolate fountain that's there it's cool for kids to see but they might want to dust off some of that dust it looks really really old and not very appealin To me I think their prices are probably at least 30% too high for the quality that they are giving out I was very surprised to see how early they closed at 4:30 and at 428 they were locking up already and by 430 they were sitting in their cars drive at home pretty early to close up That being said about the chocolate fountain everything else was very very clean there I saw the ladies polishing the doors and tidying things up they might want to update that chocolate fountain read more

Only that many reviews? Really? This place is a hidden gem in town for chocoholics. It's a differentiator in a few ways, although quality of chocolate is simply at par at best with other locals like Ps or D. The variety is all there. White, milk, dark. They even have maltitol for the diabetics! But if you have an event or a special occasion, they can customize singles for you. Yes, others probably can too, but they do it here often, and therefore achieves economies of scale to offer you a reasonable price. And if you are into making your own chocolate creations, or using chocolate in your recipes, this place is fun. They sell basic chocolates as ingredients, and then also trays and molds for those chocolate enthusiasts. There's also boxes and liners of all sizes. The train model is pretty cool too. I was recently visiting the lovely city of Vancouver when a friend mentioned this amazing chocolate factory "somewhere" nearby. Well, it was a bit of a drive in rush hour traffic to get to this hidden Burnaby gem, but once we got there it was well worth the effort. We were immediately greeted not just with the smell of melted chocolate wafting through the large building, but also by a friendly employee with a small tray of samples to tempt us with. Not being the biggest fan of dark chocolate, I took a sample of it anyway and - OMG...WOW...UM...JUST WOW - this tempting morsel was amazing! It wasn't bitter. It wasn't sweet. It was PERFECT. Needless to say, I immediately grabbed a large bar of salted dark chocolate to take home. But the chocolate adventure didn't stop there. After perusing the temptations in the main room, and peeking through the factory windows to watch the chocolate experts doing their thing, we ventured into the adjacent room devoted just to home chocolate making. Yes, folks, not only can you buy their amazing chocolates, you can buy SUPPLIES to take home to make your own. Molds, melts, anything you could need. As I considered tossing a bunch of this stuff into my pile I reminded myself the last thing I need is a new hobby, but filed the idea away for the future. On the opposite side of the chocolate-making-room-of-magic is the non-chocolate room. You know, the space reserved for those weirdos who don't like chocolate. They had taffy, hard candies, caramels (yep, grabbed a bag of those too!), sours, chews, etc. etc. etc. (This is where you're supposed to roll your eyes at my lack of knowledge of candy terminology...let's just say they had a LOT of sweet stuff in this room and there wasn't a lick o' chocolate.) Charlie's also has molded chocolate in practically any theme you can think of. Baby, business, sports, corporate, hobbies, Canada, just peruse the shelves and you'll find something for ANYBODY on your chocolate list. (And hey, if you do have a chocolate list, feel free to put me on it.) They also sell their chocolates by the box, or you can buy them by the piece or pound in their central display area. The ladies working there were super friendly, helpful, and nice, too. They offered us samples of anything we wanted. I would have taken them up on it, but I needed to get home and write this review. By the way, despite my intentions to the contrary, I ate that whole darned salted caramel dark chocolate bar before I got to the border. I didn't want to have to declare it. Where do I start?? As soon as we walked in, we were offered a chocolate sample!! Yummy!! The inside of the store is waaaaaaay bigger than it looks like from the outside. There are three parts to the retail section of the building. To the left is the DIY section with tons of supplies. The middle is the main section where you can buy single items to gift baskets. The right side of the store is the bulk section. The main attraction is the chocolate water fountain. Too cool for words!! They have an impressive selection of chocolates and candy. Staff are very nice and very helpful. Reasonably priced. Definitely our new go to place to cure our sweet tooth!!! Oh ... And ironically ... They have chocolates shaped like teeth, dentures, toothbrush and toothpaste ... Hahaha perfect gift for your dentist!! read more

We didn't know about this place and just happened to park outside it, so we decided to check it out! I have not seen this many variety of chocolate in any shape or format you can think of. They have bunnies, golf balls, sea shells, teeth, shoes, glasses, numbers, letters etc. And they have a CHOCOLATE RIVER! Just like a mini chocolate museum. We met Charlie too! He is such a nice guy. Saw our little one and keep bringing her bunny hat, chocolate coins, show her the chocolate river. Such a sweet old man! read more

These folks go above and beyond. We called to ask for peanut brittle for a friends birthday "THAT DAY". We were told they were closed Monday but when she heard the disappointment in my voice she said that their shipping department was in and they would make an exception and get me the precious brittle in time for the birthday celebration. So remember that scene in the original willy wonka movie when Charlie goes running down the street after finding the last golden ticket? well that was me when I found out this place existed... so off I went! I jumped out of the car ran up to the factory door and burst into the store with a start.... .... .... ... where are all the EFFIN oompa loompa's I blurted out. A chocolate lovers dream! Had been driving past here literally for decades, on my way to even 4 Rinks back in the day. Easy to miss when you are flying 70 km here. Asked the nice lady what's the major difference between the other retailers, she said '100% Belgian chocolate, Purdy's is 30% and rest fillers'. Does taste a bit different, didnt seem as sweet. this may be a major lifestyle change lol because there's tons to see here. Even a candy section on the right, an entire room of bulk stuff, the only stuff they don't make. And when she offered a free sample, it was game over haha. Asked their version of Turtles, suggested dark over milk...definitely not as sweet or yummy but probably healthier haha. 7 pieces for $6.73. But the white chocolate almond bark is the true winner :) Lots of options, including for diabetics. And you ever wonder those different shapes of chocolate: they also sell molds too. Try the chocolate covered gummie bears and their peanut brittle: very, very fresh and just delicious. I ordered a box of goodies through a school fund raising program and had never heard of this chocolate company. The kid that sold me the goods told me that it was better than Purdys and sure enough, the young fella knew what he was talking about. I am looking forward to the school's next fund raising with Charlie's Chocolate Factory, I plan on ordering way more next time as I was so I impressed with the quality and packaging of everything. read more

I have no words to say how disheartened I am with Charlie's. My kids were taught about Chocolate by Charlie and we have purchased chocolate from Charlie's for years but during covid, super rude. They closed the door on us as we were 10 feet away and they didn't finish answering our one question. The second lady came out of the store and she was looking for someone and refused to speak to us. You can still speak to customers very briefly at a distance. Chocolate is not an essential service but a luxury item and though some would argue this, Charlie's chocolate has been a wonderful addition to holidays, special occasions and just because but the rudeness over covid times.......truly sad. I will not return to the chocolate factory again and leave Charlie's Chocolate Factory as a memory. Thank you Charlie for all your years For response of Charlie's (Less)....There is little to add to your response as it was inexcusable behaviour. I had someone with me who viewed the behaviour and was shocked. A man who worked there was in the driveway, talking to someone when I came up to the pick up door. Perhaps going to a grocery store or pet store with give you an idea on how to respond to distancing techniques in a more pleasant way. I came here looking for mustache molds to make chocolate mustaches (shut up!) and found none. However, I did come out with a bag of taffy (GETINMAHBELLY) and a chocolate noah's ark for a friend and a shark, because it all makes sense. My best Childhood memories growing up are surrounding by this Candy store of Boundary near Canada Way. It's not a gourmet chocolate store by any means. Most of their chocolates are made with the standard cheap milk chocolate base. What makes this place isn't the chocolate but the store itself. You can get chocolates in every shape for any occasion. They all look fun to give, receive and just to treat yourself if you just care about flash and not quality. Charlie the store owner is really sweet and he dresses the part to. Coming into the store is about seeing Charlie and staring at the milk chocolate river (you heard me, they have a milk chocolate review). I mostly come here for the chocolate making molds which work great for soap, chocolate for cupcakes and other culinary endeavors. I find their supplies are very reasonably priced. I looked for chocolate molds everywhere in Vancouver and couldn't find them anywhere but here! And they had so many different kinds! And so many options with packaging and wrapping your newly made chocolates. I could totally go nuts here if chocolate making becomes my niche. Especially for personalized gifts! When I looked at the outside of the store, it kind of reminded me of a supermarket. Didn't look so fun for a first-timer like me, since I expected colour, kittens and rainbows. Walking inside and seeing everything was like magic. I felt like a 5-year old ready to just run around and look at everything. Not only does everything look tasty, but they look just too darn pretty to eat! I like that they also sell candy too. Wide varieties and selections of sweets for anyone with a sweet-tooth. Also, ask for some samples! That's also a nice treat. This place feels memorable to me, just because my first time going was with my boyfriend, who surprised me with this place and treating me. I didn't expect a lot out of this place because I was just considering it to be just another Sweet Factory. This place in my opinion is better than the Sweet Factory. I"ve been going to Charlie's for years as I love his quality of chocolate and assortment of packaged candies. The ladies that work there are always nice and Charlie if you can catch him. Lots of stuff to choose from if you're looking for a gift or something for yourself. Lots of molds and packaging for sale if you're interested as well. He has whole wall of a wide assortment of saltwater taffy so choose your favourite flavours and go nuts... which I do. Big area for packaged candy as well. Great quality and prices. OMG!!! That's really all I have to say about this place! Ok that's not all but holy hanna I was in chocolate heaven. We have driven by here many times and today we decided to go in and I can't wait to go back! They have chocolate and hard candy moulds and I hope to be able to make my own chocolate this year, like i used to with my mom when I was a kid. The great thing is that they have chocolates available for every occasion and event in a persons life and if they don't have it then, it can be made. On top of all the chocolate there is also the candy which one can not miss out on either. Today I came out with rum balls (the really good, small bite size ones), rum ball truffle, raspberry truffle and chocolate covered raisins. I was in a chocolate coma! First time visit to Charlie's and I was not disappointed! It doesn't have the glitziest appearance on the outside but once inside, their colourful displays and selection of chocolates and saltwater taffies are a little overwhelming! In a good way.... I was in the market for a box of chocolate as a present but dawdled around in the store to take it all in. I thought the themed chocolate gift boxes were interesting and something I had never seen before. A box of five to seven large pieces of milk chocolate was $10. Themes included tools, transportation, sports, music, cosmetics, etc. I found them to be too gendered for my tastes and honestly, the boxes looked a little beat up and the chocolates weren't as detailed as they could be for the items they were supposed to be. I ended up getting a pound of assorted chocolates for $25. Yawwwwn... I know. But it was an interesting adventure and I appreciate going to these types of shops as opposed to Purdy's or Rocky Mountain Chocolates. There was tons to choose from at a reasonable price, even CHRISTMAS candies when it's not even Halloween. There's also candy boxes and moulds for sale. And saaaaamples! P.S. I saw Charlie. This place has chocolate molds of every shape and chocolate molded into every shape imaginable, there was even a chocolate toothbrush (the best find). I used the online store to make my purchase. It was mostly for salt water taffy and was pretty disappointed. The taffy was quite hard, but the worst part was how the assorted was 50% licorice and mint. Also the happy hour flavours just taste like vodka. This is a great place for moulds and supplies. They have an overwhelming selection of chocolate in any shape you can imagine think golf balls to bachelorette parties.... it's definitely got that suburban feel that only comes from ... the suburbs. I have been going to Charlie's since my move into this neighbourhood 10 years ago. At first it was just a matter of fact that they are a 10 minute walk but then it became so much more. Charlie has taken personal time to teach me about chocolate to a point where I have a collection of moulds and come prepared to each and every social event I attend. My love/hate relationship is that they do experiment. Every once in a while I come in and they have a sample of something they are trying out. Sometimes I find it way too sweet (especially the ones with 'cream' or filing in it) and sometimes it is to die for and other times I'm questioning the public's tastebuds. But I understand that there is a grand variety of tastes out there and they are willing to try it all out in order to find their regular customers' favourites. The inclusion of Maltitol options is great for my Diabetic friends. Choices in boxes and bags and wrappings for those who like to combine their own treats (weddings, parties, etc) and the great variety of shapes and sizes is just FUN! Latest thing I noticed on the dark chocolate table in the back, is a variety of different types of chocolates from other parts of the world. No shapes for these but tasty and different. read more

Was excited to visit this place..left disappointed. The chocolates all had a weird aftertaste/smell. The place had an old scent to it too. I didnt like any of the individual chocolate truffles..i got a salted one and it tasted like there was liquor in it.. and I dont drink so ya never coming back. read more

Charlie's is one of the few places in town that makes chocolates with Malitol. They are more expensive than the regular chocolate but if your diabetic its wonderful! I try and stay away from candy but sometimes you can't help yourself! read more

Hi. Frequent visitor, first time poster. I've just got to say that I'm sure my dentist would be very disappointed that I frequently pop in on my drive home. Since the shop is just uphill of the Grandview highway exit, I sometimes have a pre-Rush Hour reward. Among my favourites: crisped rice clusters, salted caramels, peanut butter cups, and sour gummy candies. The best thing about the gummy candies is that they are all pre-bagged! No worries about dirty fingers pawing around inside a grocery store's bulk candy bin! I want to give Four Stars but really my teeth are sensitive because of all the sour candies. First had their chocolate as a gift as a new employee at a company back in 2003. They use Calebaut (sp?) chocolate. Started going there for seasonal, birthdays etc and I can always find something for everyone. Like the santa on a motorcycle Have not consumed any of their candy products found on the west side of the store in Burnaby. Pricing is good. I like the dark chocolate products.
