I purposely stopped by this location because I had a discount card that could only be used here, and Purdy's is always a solid bet for gifts for the holidays and dinner parties. Noticed and snagged parking spot steps from the door. According to the signs, there is free parking for certain times on the main stretch of Kingsway. Also, there seemed to be lots of parking on the side streets close by. Upon entering the shop, everything was laid out almost exactly like any other Purdy's location with the old favourites and seasonal favourites. The only difference was the location isn't attached to a busy mall. There were a few customers that came, purchased, and left. What really impressed me the most, were the associates. They greeted every person in a bright and cheery manner. Had that perfect balance between being helpful and letting customers take their time and browse. The boxes of chocolates I had chosen were unwrapped, and the associate offered to wrap them up for me. Great care was taken in painstakingly wrapping my two boxes of chocolates to perfection. While I was waiting for my chocolates to be wrapped, another customer came in looking for a specific type of chocolates. The chocolates were seasonal and thus out of stock, but the associate offered to place an order and call him when the chocolates were in stock. I thought that was a real great "above and beyond" from everyone there. Thumbs up!

The staff are super friendly and helpful. This location is close to my home and I go here only because I have a discount card that can only be used at this location. The chocolates are decent but not the greatest quality. Pricey without the discount though. I like that you can also get the ice cream bars here too.

Friendly staff. Excellent chocolate. I like shopping at the factory store because it's quieter than the retail stores. Pricey, but yummy.

Review Highlights - Purdys Chocolatier

Purdy's, like a lot of other posters have mentioned, has a nostalgic value for a lot of Vancouverites.

Such a huge disappointment. I consider myself a bit of a hot chocolate aficionado. Maybe i chose…read morepoorly but I was so let down. I ordered the regular 70% hot chocolate with cow's milk and a bit of whip cream. Maybe i should have gone for the drinking chocolate but my drink simply was not nearly chocolates enough. I had such high hopes when i walked in since the place has a wonderful chocolate aroma but my drink was very average. I would put it on par with the hot cocoa at Starbucks. No place to sit inside but there is a bench outside.

It's right beside the Performance Works building. I don't know how long this shop has been here, but in all my life I've never noticed this place until now. I happened to have just come out of an afternoon show at Performance Works and as I was walking away from the Performance Works building, I happened to turn my head and see this shop, so decided to check it out. They're a small shop/ workshop that does tours which teach how chocolate is made. When you walk in, you can smell chocolate in the air. The lady in the shop offered some samples of their chocolate. I tried their Tanduay Rum chocolate and their Earl Grey Tea chocolate. According to their website their chocolate is award winning. To be honest though, I wasn't blown away by what I tasted. It wasn't bad but it also didn't taste to me like it was award winning chocolate. I noticed a sign though that said they had a drink which was part of the Koolfest. This is a new festival that started this year and is a celebration of cold drink creations from vendors of the annual Hot Chocolate Festival. Kasama's creation was a Filipino Cacao Husk & Kape Cold Brew with Vanilla Cinnamon Syrup and Ube Cold Foam. I hadn't had any Koolfest drinks yet, this one sounded appealing and to be honest...I'm the kind of person who tends to feel guilty about taking free samples and then not buying anything! So...having sampled the Tanduay Rum and Early Grey Tea chocolates, I decided to buy a Koolfest drink. Not much of a coffee person usually. This might be only the second time I've ever ordered a cold brew drink. I very much enjoyed this drink! For me to enjoy a coffee beverage, it has to be sweet and this one was sweet...but not excessively sweet. I loved the Vanilla Cinnamon flavor in it. It really hit the spot.

Space/location The space is on the smaller side, so it's not ideal for large groups, but it's cozy and inviting, with a few counter seats inside and some patio seating outside. Food and Drinks: The food and service are consistently good, and compared to many other cafés and patisseries, it offers excellent value for money. The hot chocolate and coffee are standout. The lady behind the machine clearly knows what they're doing, because every cup is spot on. The sandwiches can be a bit hit or miss, but our recent visits have been great. The smoked salmon croissant is served cold (they always check if that's okay), and even so, it's one of my favorites. The portobello sandwich, served warm, is also rich and full of flavor. And the cakes and pastries? Dangerous in the best way possible. The kind that keeps you coming back to North Van "just one more time." :)

I appreciate the expansion of outdoor seating; they could never provide enough for the crowds they attract. We often take our coffee and treats or lunch to the Park - only steps away.
