We have been coming here for pretty much 10 years now with 3 boys coming through the program the oldest who is 10 now started at 9 months and he is finished the program now and the two younger boys are still enrolled. We love the staff and how attentive and friendly they are. Even when we felt like our middle son was not progressing as he should they were able tp suggest some different things to help him get up to speed. We love coming here and yes its not cheap but for a skill that could save your child's life its absolutely worth it. We dont worry about the oldest being invited to pool parties now because we are confident in his abilities. Charlotte Aquatics has a family feel and will work with schedules to find something that works for your family. Come here if you or your kids want to learn to swim! read more

Our 3 year old is taking lessons here and he cried or whined the first few visits. The patience that the instructors here show is amazing - they know how to get the kids comfortable in the water and distracted with their own fears. The number of activities they do is good, considering the group lessons are only 30 minutes. The things they have in the pool for the kids is amazing - with floats that act like floating platforms so kids can sit on them, partially submerged stands, slides, it's pretty cool. The cost is little more than we'd like and the location is terrible. It's just too far but we are scared that MAC won't be as good for a toddler. I wish they were either much more expensive so we'd stop going, or much closer so we didn't think twice about it! read more

Fantastic first swimming lessons!! We wanted to start early with lessons for our little one. They will do lessons for 4 months old babies in group setting. They last for 20 minutes and including four weekend classes. The instructor helped my little relax and learned to get used to moving in the water with songs. I liked the format and the way they kept the class moving even given the group setting my little had some one to one time also. Great value for the cost--you pay a class fee (baby class $25) and membership fee. The membership $35 is for the year so the cost seems reasonable. read more

We held our daughter's birthday party here last May. No problems to complain about. They actually have two pools here. The kids got to swim for 2 hours and then we had the party room for 1 hour. It was the most affordable place around to host birthday. It was very easy to make plans here and we even brought our own food. We would definitely book a party here again. read more

I feel like I'm able to teach my daughter in a safe and fun environment with great instructors who are on their game. For younger ages like my girl you bond with your baby through song and movement, socialize with other babies and learn the early swim positions, floating on back, rolling from tummy to back, breath control and more. AWESOME AWESOME PLACE!!! When I originally called weeks ago before registration started, all of my questions were answered thoroughly and by a friendly person. She was very helpful and gave me a great tip on when to register for a class to have better options. I registered weeks ago and got a class on a great day and time for my lo. They sent out an email a while ago about making up days and they said they would accommodate if they can. I told them as soon as i received that email that my lo would be out sometime in July and they said that was plenty enough notice to reschedule. The first day they gave me didn't work but they gave me another option within my scheduling parameters and it was perfect. So Friday night I got there a little early to view classes before my lo's. I was impressed by the student teacher ratio. I saw a couple kids get some one on one attention for different reasons. One kid was shy and didn't seem to do well in the group. Another kid today was throwing a tantrum about being in the water. When it was my lo turn to get in the water, it went quite well. Our teacher was great and helpful and paid some attention to every parent... Well there were only 3 of us. The next day my dude got in the water with our lo. But I love that we are both allowed to be in the water with her. Also whomever wants to stand on the sidelines to watch (and take pics/document moments are welcome). Although I would suggest limiting it to one person. The space is not that big and seating is limited, so get there early if you're going to be a spectator or have any spectators going. Also! Dress light. It is WAY humid up in that joint. There are showers to rinse off the kids after swimming. Not for the adults tho as it's just a wall with shower heads. I believe I was told that in the near future there will be private showers installed. I mean I can't ask for anything more. (I'll be looking forward to the private showers) other than that I'm officially sold on this place. Even my mom said this place is great as she thought about my nephew attending classes at the Y in her area. She agreed this joint is better. So mommies.... Daddies... Check this place out. Not all instructors are created equal, but between my sons, we've had almost of them, and can't say we've ever had a bad one. There was one instructor that our oldest didn't gel with very well, but our youngest had no issue with her. I'd encourage anyone who wants their children to get acclimated to water to start early. We started both my boys out at 6 months with Mr. Mike--another great instructor by the way. read more

Tara was the best instructor there for my 6 month old. She was fun, patient, organized, and consistent. The pool is supposed to be at 89 F but sometimes it felt colder. The size of the pool was nice and spacious. The viewing area for the guests is not separated by glass or anything so it gets very warm for the observers. Lessons are once a week, half an hour long, and comes out to be $16 per session. Overall, I like this place and I would recommend it. read more

Kinda torn because there are really some things I like about them. They are all about safety so work on things like climbing out at the side, not the ladder (so if they ever fall in they can get out even if they are not near a ladder) and I like that they use a better alternative to chlorine. And the people are nice. But after having had 1 lesson before we came to them then 3 consecutive lessons with Charlotte aquatics my kids still can't swim. I just got notice that they wanted them to go into level 2A for the third time. To me if you can't teach a kid something after 2 times in the same level why pay again for it! My neighbor has a pool that Im afraid my kids will get into and I WANTED them swimming by the summer but over $800 later and they are still not swimming enough to move on to the next level. There are too many tragedies close to my family with children and pools and I think going too slow leaves them vulnerable. The lessons themselves are very short, and there are 2 teachers. One works with each child one on one while the other just watches the others at the side of the pool. So there is a lot of wasted time- perhaps while one teacher is working one on one the other could have them all holding on and practicing going underwater, or kicking while holding the side of the pool.... something! Just no down time, its already a short lesson and I think most parents are like me and doing if for their kids safety around water. No time for a slow pace when their lives are at stake. I will say that my son is a typical boy who isn't all that interested in swimming properly and is a little lazy and would rather goof off. But thats why I got the lessons and spent $800! I hoped they would have clever ways to get them engaged and teach them faster and more efficiently. My son needs a little pushing -not a snails pace. I let them know I was frustrated and again they were nice, but didn't solve it. I guess the only thing that would have made me happy is "your right, this is moving a bit slow" lets move them on to the next level and the next session is on us. But thats kinda a dream world solution :) There was a bunch of back and forth, to busy to call me...wanted me to come in for another assessment..more delay and slowness instead of a " Ill solve this for you, lets get your kids swimmingASAP." They do have a very specific plan for teaching the kids and are great about focusing on safety. And his teacher this last time was really nice. So if your not in a hurry and don't mind spending the money for very slow progress there are some good things here. But if your in a hurry this is not the way to go. read more

I have a three and a half year old toddler, and she is now at level 2A. We go once a week and I will make the following observations. 1. The lessons are well structured but with more of a focus on fun than safety. I say this because after a year of lessons, I am confident that my daughter would drown if she fell out of a boat in the middle of a lake. I think from a safety perspective you would want to focus on the back float. I have seen youtube clips of 1 year olds being thrown in pools with their cloths on, and they flip over on their backs and just start floating and kicking. It must be teachable. 2. If your student doesn't move on to the next level, they repeat the entire level again, re-learning everything. I would suggest that the classes be structured so that as soon as one is ready to move on, they can, and they aren't repeating all the skills over again in the next session. 3. The classes have 2 instructors. One instructor will teach a skill, while the other instructor life guards. They do a good job of spending time with each student and teaching skills. I have noticed my daughter will use the time when she isn't being taught to goof off and generally enjoy the water, which is a good thing. read more

Our experience with one of the Charlotte Aquatics staff Stephanie Tomalis was horrible. The way she speaks is very rude and arrogant. She doesn't care about your frustration level and will not talk nicely with you. No matter what you discuss with her she always talk about her daughter saying she took 1 year to complete the level. As per your child's tenure she changes her tenure as well. so in first meet she will says 1 yr, in next meet she will say 1.5 yrs and so on...How does it matter if her daughter took such long time to cross the level my daughter's will also do the same. We tried to talk to her on several occassions but she was always pushy about her opinions and she didnt cared about our feelings. *****So we don't recommend anybody to interact with her******. read more

My daughter has been going to Charlotte Aquatics since she was 8 months old. She is now 4 years old and has been loving it since the first day. The whole staff is absolutely fabulous. They are knowledgeable, very professional and love what they do. Their priority is their students safety! During all this time, I've witnessed several occasions when Stephanie and all the staff went beyond the call of duty to make sure students had the attention and care when needed. But what impressed me the most is, in two occasions, when I needed help regarding my daughter needs with swimming, Stephanie was always ready to do anything possible to help. We love Charlotte Aquatics! The office staff and owner are very friendly and personable. The best teacher is Miss Gigi! She is firm yet caring and fun. Our son is going through a regression currently and she and I talked about encouraging him and letting him know he is safe in the water. We started putting him in swimming lessons when he was 3. I wish I had put him in MUCH earlier. My daughter, who was 11 months when she started, has a lot less fear of the water than my son does. We started with her last year because we were invited to one of their free toddler demo classes that they offer occasionally. So glad we attended! The toddler classes are so much fun because I am able to get in the pool with my daughter and help her learn certain skills. She actually thinks she can swim by herself! Miss Gigi is very flexible with that age group because everyone knows that toddlers are not always going to cooperate. :) The classes for the older children focus on safety as much as they do skills. They are taught that there are certain things they can do if they fall into the pool, like float on their backs, swim to the wall, or tread water. They also have to learn certain skills to move to the next level. My son has repeated levels and I have felt very confident in Miss Gigi's decision to hold him back. I do not take it personally or feel that he is relearning skills, just honing them. I love the proximity of the seating area to the pool although it can get pretty warm and muggy at times. I just love the ability to give a thumbs up to my son or shout an encouraging word. The classes are short at 30 minutes a week and may seem expensive but they are worth every penny! It is a wonderful investment into your child's safety. They also have a wonderful program that started last session where you can win prizes, including gift certificates for swim, for using social media involving Charlotte Aquatics. Liking their page on Facebook, checking in on FourSquare, and sharing pictures and videos, etc. I am enjoying this program, especially since I won a prize! It's great to get credit for doing things you would normally do! I would definitely recommend Charlotte Aquatics to any parent who wants their child to feel safe in the water. read more

They use bromine in their pool which is less reactive than chlorine but also more expensive. You won't have the haze or the smell that you get in other pools. My daughter was scared about water -- crying even if a small amount got into her eyes. As a parent, I used to dread taking her initially since she would clutch my legs and refuse to let go. Throughout the process the instructors were very patient, kind and forceful. Now, she is much more confident and can not only swim but eagerly looks forward to her friday class. We had several instructors over the last 2 years (Ms. Moeller, Ms. Jessica, Ms. Debra etc) - across the board, they were outstanding -- they challenge my daughter but are also extremely adept at making kids feel calm and safe. There is a nice cultural diversity among the students who take lessons here. The only downside is getting into classes -- they open up the registration on Sunday morning @ 8 am and in-demand classes are waitlisted by 8:02 am. Understandable given that it is a smaller place. read more

The issue that has frustrated me most is the fact that they test halfway into the session to see whether the child can pass the class. I feel this is financially driven with obviously many children not passing since they have technically only had 3 classes in that session before testing.I have talked to them about this and have been told that " the teacher knowswith just a couple of classes if the child can move up-they don't need to go through the entire session" That to me is absolutely ridiculous. I have given many exams/tests and if we were all tested on a subject when we are barely halfway through the course what are the chances that we would pass it? read more

The worst, terrible experience. I got injured taking swim lessons there and the entire staff couldn't care less and only covered for each other rather than doing the right thing and admitting they and especially, the swim instructor, Amanda, were at fault. They were inexperienced and rude. That is not the Christian way nor is it professional. Please be careful, especially with these swim instructors. Amanda is not even a good swimmer. She taught the course fully dressed and not in the pool. How do you teach a swim course like that? She is very naive and unprofessional. Buyer beware.
