I stayed here for a conference and found it to be quite a nice Marriott property. It's located right next to an upscale area of speciality shops which also has a variety of cool local restaurants to try. The hotel has a small fitness center and even a small outdoor pool. The single king room was contemporary and actually fairly spacious. The television had smart features which allowed you to connect your own Netflix account. The bathroom was quite small but looked fairly up to date with good amenities. I enjoyed the MClub in the lobby which is a bit rare to find at a smaller property like this. I love that it's open 24/7, so you can enter anytime for cold soft drinks or snacks like chips and cookies. They also serve a hot breakfast daily until 9:30am which I didn't try. They also have hot appetizers in the evening from 5:30 to 7:30, but I think this is on weekdays only. I tried this once, and it was lackluster - jalapeño poppers, meatballs, and assorted desserts. I think the real value is again that it's open 24/7 for whenever you need a soda and a snack. The staff were friendly, and requests through the app were responded to quickly. This was a family trip, and I enjoyed this location. The staff was very friendly and helpful and it was very clean, there was a working pool which we were able to enjoy and a gym ! There was even one afternoon when I was able to grab an afternoon cookie pictured below. I did have pictures of the room and the view s outside the window. However, I am not sure what I did with them, so I will have to add them later.. there's lots of free parking . There's a mall in the area and lots of restaurants. The hotel was nice but I have an issue with Marriott and their practices which makes me have a more pointed view of their hotels. The mClub was nice and well stocked. The room though was sort of strange in it's decor and I found it to be barren and uncomfortable. There are two lifts, they worked great. There was a cleaning staff sharing the one with me, odd they dont have a freight/staff lift. whatever. I did not use any other amenities. I did not get breakfast in the club due to an early meeting but I did arrive at the tail end of the evening food, there was none left with 15 minutes to spare. That is Marriott for you read more

When I lived in Southpark I had a friend visit and they stayed here, only due to the fact I was in a one bedroom apartment while my house was being built, ha ha, but it was close to my apartment and had recently been renovated. The hotel now has a modern design and is beautiful. Staff was great during the check in process and although they don't have free breakfast like some other hotels that didn't bother us. There are enough places close by to get a good breakfast instead of those "hotel" buffets. Overall, if you are looking for something in the Southpark area I would recommend the Marriott. read more

The room overall was very nice and clean so I cannot fault the room itself. The walls are pretty thin and my neighbors were quite noisy. Also there was a wedding on the weekend I stayed and there was no parking in the parking lot. It took me about 15 minutes before I could park. Also the mPlus lounge was poorly equipped with a poor food offering, and check in was awful because there was active building work going on in the lobby. Overall not a fantastic stay and I probably wouldn't come back again. I was given a measly amount of Marriott points to "compensate" me for my crappy stay but I think that was not fair compensation given all the problems I had. So I probably wouldn't recommend this again and may think twice about using Marriott. read more

This review specifically addresses the breakfast service. It's like they don't know what they want to do. They have the tables for a sit-down restaurant, but they are still trying to work it like a buffet. Mind you, the signage is little to no help, and the person at the bar was even less helpful. You walk up to the bar and are greeted by an a la carte menu of basic food options. The bartender rings you up and gives you a number to bring to your table. Nobody is turning tables here. We sat at an empty table without silverware because they were ALL empty tables without silverware. Our food arrives pretty quickly all things considered even though my order was incorrect. My son ordered pancakes. They came out without syrup. Apparently the syrup is on the long table by the bartender where the coffee prep items are. I have to get up to get syrup. Meanwhile, we STILL don't have silverware. This was a complete sh*tshow. This Marriott location should be ashamed of this service. Either provide a continental and be done with it, or do a sit-down breakfast. This sort of half-assed, shake-and-bake, bullcrap isn't doing you any favors. This is a pretty nice hotel.it has been recently updated and looks as if they are still making some updates. We were there during Christmas holiday time, and although the room is beautiful and updated that dang elevator is horrible. I feel like they can't get it revampeds soon enough. Last time we were here a few months ago, I just knew it would be updated by the time we returned. It felt like I was entering into a death trap every time I got in. It was like the elevator from a scary movie. Ridiculous. Just ridiculous. There are scratches on the inside if the door...like someone was clawing their way out. Solid place to stay when in charlotte. They have an executive lounge which is always nice but I usually sleep in too late to take advantage of bfast and I'm too beat to actually eat in there after work. The rooms are pretty spacious, beds are firm, rooms are clean. Room service is eh but you can order delivery just as easily. Parking can be a pain on busy days esp if you get back after 7. The hotel lobby is set with different seating areas. It has a bar and restaurant on site. A nice pool and games outside. There is plenty of room to sit and chat with friends outside and inside. The rooms are wonderfully proportioned . I love the chairs and the chaise in the room. The floors are not carpeted. Wonderful!!! The room was fresh and the mattress was great. 1 star off for dirty room - bed was full of hair! Yuck. We had to change rooms. Even our 2nd room had lots of hair on the floor and towels in the washroom. As we arrived around midnight, we were too tired to call and ask clean towels (luckily I always travel with my own towel and pillow!) 1 star off for breakfast at the Concierge Lounge. One of the smallest selections, even Residence Inn hotel have bigger selection. They had scrambled eggs that I didn't like (really hard and strange), sausage (that I don't eat) and white bagels (no whole grain). No potatoes or veggies. I chose berries and strange porridge that tasted like some grains, not sure if it was even oatmeal. Other than that the room was nice, great location and friendly staff. I stayed here for a work trip recently, and although the staff was great and everything, there were a few snafus that put a damper on the stay. To start with, checking in took a while because I had booked with a discounted AAA rate, and they needed to see my card. I'm pretty sure I've booked other Marriott hotels using that rate, and they never asked me for the card up front. I was hoping to get through fast because I had used the mobile check-in. Also, although this hotel is supposed to support using the app to open the door to the room, it never worked for my phone. Aside from that, one of the elevators was under construction the whole time, and the other one there was slow, so it wasn't all that easy to get around. On the plus side, the accommodations are very nice, like all hotels in this franchise, and the fitness center is pretty good too, although Netflix doesn't work on the machines there. I booked a Saturday night stay at the Charlotte Marriott Southpark via Marriott.com and picked the weekend AAA rate. The wording of the rate description was also a bit misleading because it said "M lounge level, higher floor, queen or king room". I was trying to understand what was meant by M lounge and learned after we arrived that the lounge is on the lobby level and you get access to it by paying for that particular rate or having enough status. I never had M lounge access nor was on the M lounge floor and did get that clarification by the front desk. You can pay $30 extra for it or book at the rate that includes this access. I booked a room at the AAA rate and got updates on the Marriott app days before arrival. 48 hours before arrival, the app reminded me to check in and I did. I could not pick a room like in other hotel apps so I just checked in and it said to see a front desk agent upon arrival. Front Desk: We arrived on a Saturday night after a day in the city and I believe Alex was working the front desk. Another co-worker was sitting off to the side checking her phone and as a customer, it does not set a nice impression when the front desk agent is on their phone and not engaged with the customer. I am silver elite but who cares because I was never welcomed as such or thanked for my loyalty. I provided my license and Marriott credit card and was then asked for my AAA card. I have never, in all my traveling years, been asked for my AAA card. I have the card, booked that rate and feel like my integrity was questioned by being asked to show my AAA card. Alex then asked me if two queen beds were ok. I said I did not want two queen beds and was never asked my room preference when I checked in on the app. The app does not let me select my room or room type so that was a waste of my time to check in early on an app for nothing. My profile says king preference and I understand that depends on availability by why have a profile and why check in ahead on the app when you can't pick what you want? I also never received a folio for my stay. Upon checkout with a different agent, I asked for a folio and she said it was emailed to me. I have yet to get an email folio and was not given a paper copy either. My first and last impression of the front desk are not good. Room: The rooms are beautiful. It feels like a studio apartment and I love the hardwood floors. The bathroom fixtures are modern and clean, the furniture was light and fresh and the ceilings are nice and high. The bedding was a little wrinkled but other than that, the room was perfect and the bed was comfy for a good night's sleep. The shower has the faux marble look and very new shower heads and fixtures by Kohler. The shampoos and toiletries all smell good and if you are elite, you get a room on the upper floor with a robe in the room. Each room also had a very large television where you can connect Netflix or watch cable. The AC and heating unit was very quiet (no window unit) and the lighting and electrical outlets were all on point. Wifi: I wanted to connect to the wifi as well and when I picked the wifi for Marriott Guest, it asked me if I wanted to pay $12.95 or $14.95. I did not want to pay so I called the front desk again to ask. Alex explained that I had to select the $12.95 option and it would then be taken off my bill because I was Marriott Rewards. I feel this is something that should have also been explained right at check-in at the front desk when you greet the customer since every property is different. Parking: free in the lot and you are right next to the mall Restaurants: the hotel is next to a small outdoor mall with restaurants like Paco Taco, Tuscany and Bricktops nearby. All are within walking distance: Lobby and hallways: very clean and smell fresh. Infused water is a nice touch and the renovations really add a modern touch All in all, the location next to Southpark is great, the parking is free, and the rooms are updated and comfortable. I would just work out a few kinks with the front desk since that is your first impression and I did not feel welcomed or that anything I did ahead of time in the pre check-in process was honored or even understood. read more

I have a couple of complaints to make regarding my recent stay at Marriott Southpark. First, I had to wait until 3:30pm to check in because the hotel had two many extended stay customers . Really? And, when I asked the room to be clean in the morning as I leaving hotel at the front desk, they jot down my room number but when I came back that evening it wasn't cleaned. When I called the front desk for an explanation, the staff said they do not know why but it's too late for the service. Hmmm. I am not sensing any remorse from the tone of the voice. I had a great experience staying at the Marriott South Park. I booked a 1 night stay for a business trip and highly recommend it. Despite being tucked away in a corporate park the Marriott is a very short walking distance from restaurants and stores. The hotel has a restaurant but if you want other options there are plenty. My room was quite spacious and newly renovated. I greatly appreciated the hard wood floors vs carpet. The bright white walls and furniture really brightened the room giving it a much more modern feel. The bathroom was also newly renovated with an amazing shower head which was a nice surprise. Unlike most hotels the water pressure was perfect. In the morning I went to the m club for breakfast where they offered a buffet breakfast. Choices included the usual muffins and bagels, eggs, fruit and yogurt. The coffee is freshly brewed by cup and was quite tasty. Despite dome of the negative reviews I read I found the staff and service to be extra friendly and helpful. For paying less than $200/night I think this hotel had great value. I just stayed 8 nights at the Charlotte Southpark Marriott, and it was my most disappointing experience with Marriott ever! To start, I request 3 TIMES to have the mold accumulated in our 2 A/C vents cleaned. No one ever came to the room for each of the requests. The front desk staff were apologetic, but nothing happened. In terms of Housekeeping, I found out upon check-in that there would be no housekeeping during out stay unless we requested it. OK, that is taking Covid way too far. Other hotels are doing so much differently, and more guest-friendly than simply saying, 'sorry, we're not doing it unless you ask'. At least give your guests a few choices!! I did ask every 2 days to have the room serviced, and there were no issues. Just disappointing to learn of your draconian policy in the spirit of 'safety of our guest and employees'! On a positive note, I think the front desk staff were very friendly and professional; all of them. I recall Forrest, but can't remember any of the other same. All excellent. Clearly the service issues at the hotel were more of a management problem than the staff. I am now having to nurse a sinus infection, likely caused by the mold in the air of our hotel room. Super Awful and Disappointing Marriott. *Don't Stay* They should rebrand this as a courtyard. It is a new "concept" that lacks service or quality. It is especially shocking considering I am in the heart of the south and the staff is lacking Southern Hospitality. This morning I called to have a latte delivered to my room and they explained that Room Service does not have a latte in the menu!?....I travel weekly at it is common to offer Lattes at hotels, especially newer or renovated properties. I then asked if someone may be able to do me a favor and stop by the M Lounge and help me with a Latte from the machine that makes Lattes there and deliver to my room. I even offered to pay 20.00 for the assistance and was told NO that it is not a service that they offer. I then offered 30.00 as an incentive. -- nope It is 7:46am and I have tons of work to do. There hospitality is lacking and it is even worse to think they missed out on learning "Southern Hospitality" living here in the South. This property is a sad example of a Marriott and I will be contacting corporate about this new terrible "self serve" format. It's not good. read more

It was a very interesting experience at this hotel. My wife and I arrived very late and were given a room that had dirty bed. We asked for another room as it looked like the bed sheets were not completely washed, had lots of hair under the covers. The girl at the reception was very nice and apologized. Our second room had similar problem - the floor in the washrooms was dirty and the towels too. The breakfast was very basic, only few items to choose from. Little disappointed here again. However, over all the hotel looks really nice, they have tiny gym and tiny outside pool. Right next to the shops and free parking. read more

My company booked us at this hotel for this week to hold a conference. There was roughly 40 of us at the meeting. The hotel did a nice job and accommodating all of us and our rooms. I was a little skeptical looking at the reviews of the hotel. The hotel has completely been re-done my room was outstanding the hotel was beautiful the elevators have also recently been re-done. Some of the previous comments regarding the elevators looked as though they were old and rickety. I'm not sure if they were completely replaced but they look very nice. The staff was very good and the service was outstanding, just what you would expect from a Marriott. The only reason I am putting this hotel at a four-star is because I did not feel like they were well prepared for our breakfast in the morning. It took me almost an hour to get two eggs over medium with some sausage. Also the hotel only has one icemaker located on the ground floor for all of the floors. It was a huge inconvenience to go get a bag of ice. The hotel is located close to a number of shopping areas including a large mall and some great restaurants within walking distance. If you find yourself in this area do not hesitate to stop in and stay at this Marriott. Clean comfortable and nice. read more

My family and I recently had a very bad customer service experience with Marriott. After a long 6+ hour drive the day before Thanksgiving, we were excited to check into the Marriott Charlotte Southpark and decompress. Instead, when I went to the front desk, the agent informed me that it was against NC fire code to put a roll-away in a room with 2 queen beds - after the agent that I had made the reservation with confirmed in an email that this was possible. While I completely understand the fire code issue, what happened next just shocked me. I asked the front desk manager what she could do to accommodate us, given that Marriott had misled us on the phone when I made the reservation. Her fallback was that the website clearly stated that Marriott could not put a roll-away or cot in the room with the 2 queen beds - and that the only thing she could do is to sell us another room at the same rate, effectively doubling the cost of the accommodation (approximately $1,000 vs. original cost of ~ $500). The onus was on the customer to check the website AFTER making the reservation to verify that the reservation was valid. She didn't offer any other alternatives, such as seeing if there might be other Marriott properties in the area. I was truly dumbfounded, and couldn't believe that the manager wouldn't try her best to accommodate a guest with a long track record of staying at Marriott properties (especially a "Gold Elite" Member) and whose reservation had clearly misrepresented what Marriott could do. I walked outside very frustrated. It was dark out. Two of my daughters were flying in from New York within the hour, and I was to pick them up at the airport, then head to a family event. The manager offered little in the way of help - and it was up to me to explore other options, rather than the manager picking up the phone to see if any of the other Marriott properties in the area could accommodate us. Given this, I pulled out my iPhone and luckily learned that the Courtyard Marriott Southpark was roughly a mile away and still had availability (as virtually all of the other hotels in the area were sold out). I called to make a reservation, and the agent there was incredibly friendly and helpful, as most Marriott staff are. She quickly checked to see if they had rooms available, and offered to put a blow-up mattress in a room with 2 queen beds to accommodate the 5 of us. We ended up taking two adjoining rooms instead, at a much lower rate than the Marriott Charlotte Southpark, but it was a very positive experience after a very negative one earlier that evening. I have formally recognized the employee for the excellent customer service she demonstrated, as she was a great representative of their company. I share this experience as Marriott fell down in two dimensions of customer service - 1) starting with misrepresenting what the room could accommodate, to 2) very poor customer service by the front desk manager at the Marriott Charlotte Southpark. Had I known in advance that the room couldn't accommodate five due to a very specific North Carolina fire code law, I would have made a reservation elsewhere to begin with. This hotel is undergoing an extensive renovation. The room I stayed in had been through a complete, top to bottom, renovation and was quite comfortable. I appreciate when a hotel goes for a complete renovation, rather than a simply replacing the carpet and painting the walls. I stayed at this hotel twice recently, and both rooms had all new furniture, lighting, flooring, fixtures, etc. The old bathroom had been gutted and completely rebuilt - no old tiles anywhere. The room was very white - white betting, white walls, white picture frames, white lamps, etc. The only color in the room came from the laminate flooring, chaise lounge, an accent pillow, etc. The bed was quite comfortable. The chaise lounge, not so much. I prefer a real couch so that I can lay back and watch TV. This one had a very high, stiff back/arm on one side, and no back/arm on the other end, making it quite uncomfortable and impractical. The bathroom was nice. Lots of counter space and a really large shower with great water pressure. The concierge lounge has been moved down to the first floor, right off the lobby. While this space is brand new and the location is quite convenient, the food options are typical of most Marriott lounges. Breakfast was adequate and free, but leaves a lot to be desired. The common areas of the hotel have yet to be renovated. While the guest rooms are updated and somewhat modern, the lobby and public areas are still out-dated and stuffy. The front desk staff was courteous. Also, there is an AC Hotel under construction in the parking lot, so parking is severely limited. If you arrive too late in the evening, you may have to park in the lot at a neighboring office building, or be forced to use the valet. read more

For the price I got, I was not expecting much and that was fine by me. We are just stopping here for one night until a flight. But I got much more than I bargained for. First off, there is plenty of parking, so you don't have to worry about the parking. The hotel is conveniently located right next to the South Park Mall, which is just across the street, so that is great too. The room was very nice, with a desk, two couches, and a big king size bed. Our room had a safe, coffee maker, and a fridge as well. All of that was a plus, but that is not why I rated this five stars. That was because of the amazing service I received here. From start to finish, they were all very friendly and helpful. The bell man was very charming and helped us with our bags to our room, and gave some advice on dining that we took him up on that was great. The following day, I was looking for a scale to weigh my bags, because they were quite heavy and I wanted to be sure we would be okay for the flight. The front desk looked all over the hotel but they seemed to have misplaced it during a renovation. She called just about everyone one payroll and they were all genuinely concerned with helping me out. Finally, she remembered she had a scale in her car (what are the chances) and ran out to get it for me. She even allowed me to take it to the room and bring it back later. She went well beyond the call of duty on this, and that was very appreciated. To top it off, she gave us a very late check out to make it easier on us to relax before our flight. That is the top of service you expect in a 5 star, so kudos to this team for being excellent. read more

My impressions: Where IS this place?! So glad to have GPS navigation. Seriously? It's located in a Coca Cola headquarters parking lot? Valet parking? Ridiculous. There's a gob of close-in parking. This lobby ... don't tell me ... the decorator was inspired by the traditional red-velvet draped brothels of yore, yes? Wow, the staff at the front desk are great - friendly and helpful! Oooohh - a compact expanse of hardwood flooring just inside the door to my room. I love it! Why do I like this so much? The light in the closet - such a simple thing, such a luxury. This in-every-room drink chiller isn't as cold or capacious as a standard mini-fridge, but it's an acceptable substitute. I can use it. (Nice, seeing as how the Marriott ran out of portable refrigerators to lend to guests.) Odd curved bar suspending the shower curtain. I'm not feeling it. The room is comfortable, and the lounge chair by the bed is a favorite. Fitness center, check. Thanks for the public-access internet-equipped computer in the lobby - especially since I'm not interested in paying the daily fee for internet access. The bar downstairs may not always be optimally stocked with in-demand spirits, but it's a favorite of at least some visiting professionals and academics who enjoy a well-lubricated, late evening congress. Mental note: a large mall with upscale big-box anchor stores is very close. No shuttle to the airport? Sigh. read more

If you're ever in Charlotte, NC the Charlotte Marriott South Park is the place to stay.. The rooms are super plush for the low price. The king size bed was incredibly comfortable, the audio system was impressive, and all the amenities were fantastic.. The next morning we had breakfast in the downstairs dining room. It took the waitress about 30 minutes to take our order. Now I would normally deduct a star for this type of behavior but I don't want to take away from the decadence of the room. I've only stayed here once, however, I was extremely pleased with the whole experience. The hotel itself is very extremely clean, shiny, and new, and the staff were quite pleasant, though formal. The hotel is in great walking distance to Southpark mall and restaurants and has an outdoor pool with a nice outdoor seating area. I ate the breakfast buffet at their onsite restaurant and was pretty impressed --it had a wonderful variety of foods. If you're looking for a place that is slightly cheaper, and more kid-friendly, I'd look at the Renaissance across the street; however, if you don't have children and want something a bit more formal, this is a great spot. read more

Yeah for mediocrity! This is your average Marriott hotel; there is nothing wrong, but nothing just right with the Marriott SP. Quite frankly, it's just another nondescript hotel for a comfortable night's rest during business travel. read more

From a business travel perspective, this hotel is in a great location. They also have a very nice pool, steam and jacuzzi. Above average workout area with lots of equipment and free weights. Food service is very good overall. But you can walk out the back to three really good restaurants. A large mall with additional restaurants is within walking distance.. I find the hotel to be quiet and comfortable. The staff is friendly and accomodating. Pros; location, comfortable, amenities. Cons; Can be hard to get a reservation, so plan ahead, rates have gone up considerably (to pay for the renovation of course), overpriced breakfast buffet. read more

Impressed with the cleanliness of the room. I also enjoy the modern design and hard floors vs. carpet. The beds are adequately comfortable, I'd say middle of the road. Overall the location is great, close to shopping & restaurants. read more
