Root canals are supposed to be painful and scary, right? Not at Charlotte Root Canal Center with Dr. Sunar and his caring staff. First, they fit me in the same day I saw my regular dentist, even thought they were busy. The lovely front office worker, Esperanza, went to the trouble of actually calling my insurance to verify the price of my treatment before I had anything done, because I had expressed that I was nervous about the price. She broke everything down to me as well as showing me the total. She also made sure that my insurance policy was followed so I would have coverage (for some reason my insurance requires that the exam not be the same day as the procedure). Preoperative x-rays and exam were easy and painless thanks to Dr. Sunar and his very capable assistant, Lydia. Then they booked me the next day so I wouldn't have to wait for treatment. When I arrived, they got me right back into a room, and then Dr. Sunar came to apply topical anaesthetic followed by injected local anaesthesia. He was very pleasant and we chatted while we waited for the anaesthesia to work. The root canal itself was totally painless; both Dr. Sunar and Lydia were efficient, professional, and meticulous. Even now, over twelve hours after the procedure, I have only slight discomfort in the jaw muscle due to the injected anaesthesia (this is common for me after dental work). I recommend Dr. Sunar and his entire staff at the Charlotte Root Canal Center. What a relief! read more

The dental care was fine for both my husband and son. But we and our dentist office requested the release letters NUMEROUS times (at least 4) and they still haven't sent them to our dentist office so that they can get their crowns done. Why is this? I won't be sending anybody to them because of this, which is such a stupid reason but here we are. We have had to postpone appointments because of them saying they'd send them over and they didn't. I was very impressed with Dr. Sunar and his staff. Everyone was friendly and professional. He took time to review my x-rays to make sure he wasn't performing an unnecessary procedure. Had the worst experience of my life today at this dental office!! I am big on taking care of my mouth. Had a tooth (#19) located on the bottom left side that was very sensitive to hot and cold. I complained to my primary Dentist, but they told me twice that they didn't see a problem. When I could not stand the pain any longer, I called my insurance company asking for an in-network Endodontist referral list. I chose Charlotte Root Canal Center from that list and experienced the worst dental experience that I have ever experienced... The ladies at the front were so kind and professional, the dentist assistant was pleasant as well. After the x-rays and sensitivity test revealed the tooth, I was told that they could resolve the problem right then, I agreed! Dr. Rush Sunar was rough right from the start, usually I don't feel the numbing shot but I DID! He started the procedure and I flinched because I was not numb... He shot me again, but I could still feel the drill. He then told me that the only way to calm the nerve was to drill directly into the tooth and I would just have to bare it so that he would give me and injection directly into the nerve. I was NOT numb and he just drilled straight down into the tooth which was the most PAINFUL thing that I have EVER experienced. He kept polking and I kept squirming...he finally stopped and said that he could not finish the procedure because my nerves would not calm down. He plugged the tooth with temporary filling wants me to come back when the as he said..."when the tissue dies". They scheduled me to come back in a week and a half. BUT I REFUSE TO GO BACK! On my way home, I called my insurance company to file a complaint! I have had 4 root canals in the past and several fillings. I have NEVER experienced pain like this in any of my other procedures. My experience with this office was awful and I totally wouldn't recommend anyone to go here for their dental work. For starters I was scheduled for a root canal and his staff didn't complete the pre-authorization of my benefits like they stated they would, which in turn delayed my root canal and and caused me to have to wait to have it completed and cut into my current annual benefit for the year. Basically something that could have been completed before the end of 2021 had to be delayed until the begining of 2022 because of their incompentence. Secondly Dr. Ramesh "Rush" Sunar was very unprofessional he was very rough with my face and spilled anesthesia in my mouth and no it was not the stuff that is used to numb the gums, it was anesthesia. After he completed the root canal he began to pressure me to use a dentist that he worked with next door and even used profanity!!!! His demeanor is also borderline inappropriate especially if you're a woman and I did not feel comfortable I have never heard a doctor use profanity while working with a patient. He also grabbed my hand and phone and attempted to show me how I could complete a review for his office. To top it off his staff tried to bill me for the full amount of the root canal even though I have insurance and a pre-determination statement showing that my insurance covered and authorized 50% of the expense for the root canal. They also tried to send me a remaining balance after I paid my insurance portion stating they billed my insurance for additional x-rays. The bill was 30.00 I didn't even have the bill for two weeks before his staff started harassing me to pay them over the phone. I flat out told them I would come in person to pay because I don't provide card information over the phone or that I could mail the payment to them. Not even 3 days later they called again! What kind of office sends a bill without a due date or please pay by date and harrasses someone when they haven't even had the bill for barely two weeks. This place is super shady and can't be trusted. For anyone looking to have dental work completed you have been warned. P.S. there is a complaint for him with the NC Dental Board. read more

On May 16th I went in for one root canal and came out with 3. While the temporary fillings were done, they left my cracked tooth open and have not released my X-Rays to my dentist to get my crowns done. Dr. Sunar was personable and friendly, but his staff (which is a reflection of him) are holding my X-Rays hostage. This is not fair and I guess I will have to go to the dental board to resolve the issue and have them pay my dentist for the crowns due to the nearly one month delay since my root canal was done. read more

How good can a root canal be? Well, they are horrible, but my experience here was as good as it could be. Suzie was awesome. I have a very difficult mouth to work on and she really took her time, calmed me down, and dealt with the difficulty incredibly well. Dr. Sunar was very pleasant, professional, and communicated very well on what was happening and updating me on the progress. If you have to get a root canal, this is a great place to get one. The only thing I didn't like was I was charged 10% more for charging the procedure to Care Credit. read more

Dr Sunar is a compassionate, highly talented, skillful and caring specialist dentist who takes you through the often scary idea of having a root canal procedure. I had the next level - an apicoectomy - to rid me of a nasty infection above a tooth in my jaw and to save my expensive crown on that tooth. I cannot recommend him more highly. I had minimal discomfort after the surgery and followed his instructions closely. I have completely healed after only one week. Dr Sunar did a root canal treatment on me about 10 years ago and I have never had a moments trouble with that tooth since then. I just wish all my other teeth had had his expert treatment. His staff are also highly trained and knowledgeable and a pleasure to deal with. Dr Sunar is without doubt one of Charlotte's leading and emminent Endodontist's. read more

This place is borderline unethical. If it weren't for the staff I would give them zero stars. The endodontist at this clinic told me I needed to have my tooth removed and replaced with an implant - something he even offered to do same day (which isn't something you should do). I got a second opinion and it turns out, I just had an infection above the gum line that required an antibiotic and prescription mouth rinse. Problem solved. On top of that, after paying at his office what my insurance didn't cover, this chump apparently lost my paperwork and referred me to collections over $60. Don't use this guy - he's just out to make a buck and doesn't care about his patients. read more

Today I had my second root canal with Dr. Sunar. I have a pretty small mouth and every dentist I've ever had has commented on the difficulties it causes. Both my root canals required special attention because the canals were deep and narrow. Dr. Sunar doesn't accept anything as "good enough". Either it is done right or he's not finished working on it. I hope I never have to see him again, but if I need another root canal I will certainly ask for him. read more

You never contacted me on yelp or anywhere else after I left your practice. I don't know what AKJ is a code for, but I was seen at your practice and you did a root canal for me on a tooth on the back bottom. Worse experience at the dentist ever. Took you several shots of novocaine to get me half numbed? Still don't remember me? Then you continued to talk about the rest of my teeth with silver fillings,etc. FYI, I did try reporting you to the dental board but they asked me to file a written complaint and I did not want to do that because judging from how you are reacting to an online review I'm afraid for my life and safety to send a written complaint! Amy is obviously not my real name its my userame but I'm a REAL person!!! You couldn't even tolerate one honest review that you had to write two fake ones immediately after mine, one of which is from a person who lives in CALIFORNIA! I had a root canal (my first) done in April of 2014. I started having discomfort in the same area 5-6 months later. After 2 appointments, I was told that I would need another root canal, on the next tooth over. X-rays showed this to be the case. The discomfort subsided for the next 30 days. Cut to a recent Friday where I started to feel ill. It began with a fever, which lasted 4 solid days. During this period, I had no appetite, was sleeping 12-15 hours a day, had no energy, and had moments of nausea (vomited once). As the fever was subsiding, I was noticing more and more tooth pain. I missed 2 days of work before seeing my family doctor. Blood tests showed that I had a bacterial infection. I set an appointment with the Root Canal Center. We were able to confirm that a tooth was infected, though it wasn't the tooth next to the tooth that had a root canal. It was the tooth that had a root canal 11 months prior. The discomfort I had been having in batches over the prior 6 months was from the tooth operated on in April. Dr. Sunar recognized this, and feeling bad for me and my situation, went beyond his own policy that grants fixing to be done for free within 6 months and fixed the tooth for free. He even did the filling, which saved me from having to pay my dentist for the work. The fixing of the root canal and filling took 2 additional trips. All in all, I ended up paying for 2-3 sets of x-rays (billed to insurance to my deductible, which stops my from having 2 free cleanings with my dentist this year) from the visits between the original root canal and when it was fixed, as well as a family doctor appointment and blood work. I have yet to receive these bills but I foresee them being a few hundred dollars. I also missed work. Though I cannot rate my experience at 5 stars, I am happy that Dr. Sunar fixed my tooth and did the filling for free (no bill yet at least). I was informed that no root canal is done with 0 bacteria left over and that there is always a risk of infection. Perhaps the policy for fixing an infection root canal should be moved to 12 months. After all, I was under the impression a root canal, when done without issue, can last a lifetime. 12 months seems more reasonable to me. Either way, Dr. Sunar did well by me. It could have been much worse. My review may sound harsh, but the reality of it is that Dr. Sunar could have easily asked for me to pay for the work done as it did not fall into his current policy. For that, and how pleasant he and his staff was throughout, I give a rating of 4 stars. read more

I had my second root canal in 3 years with Dr. Sunar today. After my last one in 2014 I knew there was nothing to worry about when I walked into the office today, and I was right. Two shots to numb me and I never felt anything else. The office is warm and comfortable and the staff and doctor are extremely personable. If I could choose NO stars I would. My main dentist had referred me to an root canal specialist, but they were not in my network and I was going to have to pay 1300 upfront. So when I found out this office was in network I decided to use him.....BAD IDEA So I have never had a root canal before, I did not know what to expect and I was very anxious. My nerves were not put to rest when I met the staff. The lady who did my xray kept putting the bite plate in backwards, not once, not twice but 3 times! The doctor was inappropriate telling me he was better looking than another doctor in town and asking me if a certain celebrity on the TV was wearing a bra..... bizarre. So I had the root canal done. I was told it would be sore and to take Motrin and it would help. So I left, went home took motrin and went to sleep. That night I woke up with moderate pain in my tooth. I took more motrin. The next day my tooth was throbbing. Anytime it was touched by anything even the tooth directly above it, I had SHOOTING pain down into my jaw. I tolerated the pain on motrin every 6 hours for 2 days. I then called the office and explained my pain to them and I was advised to come in. I leave work and go into the office. The tech set me up for an xray when the doctor walked in and said he didn't need an xray. He then proceeded to lecture me about how he told me there would be pain. I informed him that I was aware of the pain, however it was significant and did not seem right that an essentially dead tooth hurt more post procedure than pre. He then WITHOUT ANY Lidocaine or numbing medication at all DRILLED MY VERY SENSATIVE TOOTH practically down nothing while I was writhing in pain, and screaming and holding onto the chair. I have now had to see my dentist to help with the pain and have the tooth assessed and fixed. read more

This was a really great place for me to get my first root canal. I was a bit nervous because it was my first but I didn't even feel anything through the procedure. I had a emergency Root Canal yesterday morning. My dentist, Dr.Giest who is in credible dentist already, sent me to Dr.Sumar the same morning. I have had quite more than one or two root canals in the past, all referalls by Dr.'s or professional friends but this visit,(root canals are hardley my favorite appt)was the most relaxing and pain free dental procedure I have ever recieved. Not only was i fit in immediatly but the surgeon ,Dr.Sunar, took time out to give me something to relax me and numb any pain i was in, in between finishing his scheduled patient ..Ive never known a Dr. so knowledgeable,who is conservative and a down to earth personality. The shot did not hurt, this doc has magic fingers. The procedure was painless and he gave me a paper along with medication as what to expect and even called my huband the next day to check on me..I'd refer him to anyone wanting a Endodontist with great skills,great personality and wonderful bedside manner with excellent staff!
