This place was RIGHT across from our hotel, so we had to check it out. The food was excellent, and the view was most amazing! The prices are very reasonable too. Well worth a visit for sure! I'm shocked at the amount of bad reviews at this place. However, I didn't have shrimp or crab, which I feel like a lot of people had. We spent a couple days in San Carlos and decided we wanted some seafood. We heard that seafood was absolutely delicious along the coast line. We decided after watching videos online of the region that we wanted scallops These weren't ordinary scallops, they were the huge ones. We decided we would get some if they were absolutely fresh. We sat along the perimeter of the restaurant during sunset hours. The view was spectacular. When it was time to eat, we asked to switch tables more inside the restaurant which they gladly told us to pick any table we wanted. We had a few mezcals, beers, clams, and these scallops that we saw online. Everything was fresh and brought in that day. We asked for something else (I don't remember), but the server told us that what we were requesting was brought in that day. In the case that we are in the region, I would still go back. read more

We really enjoyed going to Charly's Rock on our visit to San Carlos, we went back twice actually! The view is incredible. Super fresh seafood tostadas and cocktails, great tacos, and both shrimp and crab in culichi sauce which is my favorite sauce. My only issue here is that they charge you random prices for the margaritas, the first time we went the margaritas were only 95 pesos and the second time we accidentally racked up a huge bill because they were charging us way more for the same margaritas we had the day before. Weird. Not the biggest deal in the world though, the food is amazing and you really can't beat the view! read more

Stopped by for an afternoon drink with plans to return for dinner. My Michelada that I ordered extra picante was made with only tomato juice and was the most bland uninteresting drink ever & my wife's margarita was almost undrinkable. The salsa that came with the chips must have been from Taco Bell. It's a shame that a place with such a prime location can't even get the basics right. read more

You can't beat the view here. We had the house margarita and guacamole to start. The guacamole was good, but needed more salt for our taste. Our dishes were good, the best two being the cocktel with seafood and the shrimp and octopus tacos. I think this place is best for drinks and small bites like the cocktel and tacos. Charlie's rock on the beach in San Carlos is a great location for lunch or dinner. The menu is extensive and so many choices, it was amazing. There are over 10 types of tacos to select from. The grilled fish with the Mexican vegetables was excellent. And the margaritas are absolutely wonderful. I would highly recommend this restaurant. read more

It's hard to reconcile some of the poor reviews for this restaurant, but as I can only report my experience, it gets a solid four stars. It is a nice place and is perfectly located right on the beach. As far as the vista is concerned, this place is magical. So, if the reviews of the food don't get you here, at least go and sit for a while with a beer or two. We found the service to be quite good, prompt, knowledgeable and friendly. The beer was cold and my wife said the margherita was good. First, we were brought salsa, corn chips and limes. The salsa was very good...it was also very spicy, just the way we like it. My wife ordered smoked fish tacos which she said were excellent. I went Aussie and ordered fish and chips. The breaded cod was top class and the fries and salad were of the best quality. The value for money would be hard to top. Finally, I address some of the poor reviews which claim orders were 'messed-up'. This is a Mexican restaurant, in Mexico, where Spanish is the language spoken. My Spanish is all but non existent. Some people who say they speak Spanish, in reality don't do better than relatively few words. One thing I have learned during my extensive travels is that locals in any country cannot be held responsible for my (or others') failure to understand my Spanish, Japanese, Indonesian, German, French etc...because I don't speak them well. Sure, I can ask where the toilet is, and 'please may I have another beer', but "I'd like the steak, medium well done, with mushroom and pepper sauce, mashed potato, not too much salt, some steamed veggies, and another gin and tonic", will turn into some form of unintelligible bullshit that no one will understand and many courteous waiters will guess at. And that's not a good reason to post a poor review, unless (as in my case here) you are partially reviewing your own language skill. Charley's Rock, on this day, was very good. If you want to get sick, order the crab. My wife made the mistake and got sick. I'm not sure this restaurant is familiar with refrigeration. The mayo in the crab doesn't do well at room temperatures. read more

Frist Time at Charlys Rock,my husband and I had a HORRIBLE experience.We ate the shrimp tacos after two hours we had to go to the hospital for non stop vomiting and diarrhea.The doctor said it was a severe food poison.I don't recommend this place. read more

I am in San Carlos Mexico right now and I just got ripped off by Charlie's Rock I ordered a Cadillac margarita 95 pesos and two waiters came up and charge me 200 and 25 pesos telling me that I ordered a special Cadillac Margarita my suggestion is never go there it is nothing but thieves working there across the street upstairs better restaurant have a nice trip if you . Had the octopus de la parrilla and it was chewy, fishy and didn't taste grilled at all. Just came on a skillet already chopped up. Came with a side of rice, bread and salad. The needed tortillas. Our party had 9 people and only 1 of them liked their food. The only attribute that was good was a nice view but you can get that just by parking on the side of the road. If it wasn't for the view, the dinner last night would have been a disaster. The first four items I picked from the menu they couldn't serve. And they were out of the first two beers I picked off the menu. There has been no effort to make the restaurant look attractive- I think the tables and chairs must have come from the Salvation Army. We went here for Christmas Eve dinner they had a seafood buffet with all you can drink margaritas everything we ate was great with an amazing view only down part was we were promised a certain table and when we arrived got a totally different table asked the hostess for assistance and she was of no service she was plain rude . Service was extremely slow, the food badly prepared and burnt. The drinks were just poorly made. I would avoid this place if you are looking for a good meal.
