This is not the same soggy peso from before. This is a fancy version of sitting on the beach because now you sit on a patio with a high-rise next-door. So there is very little ambience. Atmosphere is fantastic and much potential can be realized here. First placing canned cheese on nachos is most certainly worthy of thirty days in a Mexican jail and don't forget bagged chips as opposed to fresh made. I can't believe anyone with such a beautiful setting and investment would not at least offer real cheese as an option. I guess it's more profitable to push the easy button. The limited menu is also a drag, as there is not much on the menu for those that don't like seafood or are allergic. Service was ok however a blue haired leg tattooed girl was rather rude. Really cool beach palapa bar and restaurant! Lively music blaring on the stereo, lots of cruisers having a drink, cool drinks and yummy food. Can't beat the ocean view with your toes in the sand. Great place to watch the sunset with friends. The drinks were strong and tasty, the food delicious. This place is within walking distance from where I was staying. I have been here before because it is a great place to have a drink on the beach. It was nice to be able to have a few drinks, chips, salsa and guacamole while the kids place at the beach. This place is the place to come to if you want to put your feet in the sand and have a drink. It is not the place to come to if you want speedy service and be in and out. We sat ourselves and had to wait a bit to get any service. This is a must while in San Carlos. Just be prepared to have to wait for service. read more

I have been going to San Carlos 6 to 12 times a year for the past 30 years. Soggy Peso is probably the best beach bar around. They serve cold beer (OK - everybody can do that), but the margaritas are made from real limes (not a mix) and guacamole is fantastic. However, the views and beach are absolutely spectacular. This is everything I want in a beach bar to be honest. There's drinks, there's sand and there's water. Case closed! But honestly we had a great experience here. I had a couple frozen drinks which were all super good, especially the mango margarita. The micheladas were also pretty good. As for food, we tried the nachos. They were alright, not the best by any means but they'll do if you've had a few drinks. Unfortunately the beach was closed while we were here but it was all good. We still got to enjoy so sand on our feet and a nice breeze from the water. Overall you come here for the beach view and the cheap decent enough drinks! read more

A local directed me to this place, as one of the must be place in San Carlos. It was well worth the visit. This is a bar on the beach with some finger food choices. Do not expect to have a gourmet food here. It is mainly a bar. The waiters send your drink and food to the beach. When it is close to the sunset, there are live music set up on the side. We love the Peso for atmosphere and it's beautiful beach location. I do feel like the quality of food and service have gone down over the years while prices have gone up. It's a great place to put your feet in the sand and enjoy a margarita, paloma,or cold beer but I would save my pesos and eat somewhere else. read more

We enjoy going to the Soggy Peso but it seems every year the SERVICE goes down and the prices go up. We waited more than 15 minutes for a 2nd margarita and finally got up and went to the serving bar to pay our tab which took a while because the staff was so involved in shooting the breeze that they didn't pay any attention to me with my peso's in my hand. The SP wasn't that crowded 2:00 on a Tuesday. Lisa and Frank should spend more time there and kick their buts into action. read more

The drinks were okay but the food was disappointing, coconut shrimp over cooked, nachos and guacamole dip was tasteless. We attended the monthly full moon celebration. 450 pesos bought a multicourse dinner and two drinks with or without alcohol, live entertainment and a bonfire on the beach. I have mixed feelings about this place. I found the Long Island Ice Teas lacking in alcohol. Who ever heard of this dilemma? However I must say I enjoyed all of the various fish, shrimp and crab tostadas. I was impressed with the marlin taco. The shrimp quesadilla wasn't bad either. Environment is good it's one of the only places that has a nice beach. The food is good, and the prices are reasonable. The only caution is they will add money to your bill without you knowing and they will also add tip and not tell you hoping to get two tips, this happed 4 times so it wasn't an accident. I absolutely love this beach bar! The margaritas here are super strong and the view is beautiful. It is literally a skip and a leap to the ocean. They also have delicious paninis (turkey and Brie! Mmm) and yummy nachos. If you get here around 6:30 PM, the sunset is yours to indulge in. Amazing. read more

Let me start this off with I was actually ripped off and then a discussion ensued. We went last night for the first time. We waited way too long for service. I had to go to the desk where they sell tshirts and ask the young man to get our server. I was kind and friendly, not rude at all. He said It was him and he came over in a few minutes. Didn't even say a word. No hola. Nada. Just got his pen out and looked at us. He acted as if he was irritated he had to work. We had sat there for over 10 minutes by that time. Maybe they were short handed. Idk. The food came out quickly and it was good. Then came the bill 610$ pesos. I gave him two super crisp 500's. I know this as a fact because All I had was 500's. No 200-100-50 or 20's. Straight from the USA bank. I double checked because they were so crisp they may have stuck together and I didn't want to give them 1500. We waited forever for change. Nada. I called him over. He said I only gave him 500 and a 100. To make a long story short. Both the server and the manager told me I had shorted them 10 pesos. And proceeded to show me an old 500 and 100 that they swore was mine. That I had paid with. I asked for the owner. She came in a while. After a long discussion. Where she clearly believed her staff. She gave me my 390 pesos back. I have never paid less for a bill in my life. I'm an honest person who has made my living helping people. I was pretty shocked. As this has never happened to me. If you decide to go here. Make sure you are aware. There's some sort of money game going on. Whether it's just the server. Or he and the manager. It's not right. And they are clearly thieves. We were wanting to go to a different bar but they were closed. Our driver Raoul suggested this place. We wanted to be on the beach. It was exactly what we were looking for.....a great beach bar with huge servings of food. I had the marlin tacos which were so thick with marlin, one person had the shrimp cerviche which came in a large pasta bowl and 2 others had the coconut shrimp which had an avocado salad, rice, salsa and 6 large shrimp. Beer was cold and refreshing. Everyone was very friendly and quick to help. We were looking forward to San Carlos and this is the perfect place to sit back and enjoy the day. Beach beer great food. Went here twice this trip, so obviously we didn't hate it! :-) Great location right on the beach (for now, at least). Excellent service, food was tasty. One thing that surprised me on the second trip was the inclusion of "servicio" 10% on the bill. We had added our usual 18% the first time, but now I realize we probably tipped 18% *plus* the automatic 10%. Just something to be aware of. read more

Overall a very good experience! Once you survive the rough dirt road, you end up in a little bit of heaven. The view is to die for and the food comes in a close second. If that isn't enough in itself, the ceviche and tostados were grand - especially when you get to enjoy them after a game of volleyball around one of the nearby nets, on a beach with a beautiful view of the sunset.
