So my experience is limited to a corner of the campus, even though I found myself wandering other buildings looking for my group the first time I visited-oops! The conferences I attended were in the southeastern building-professional development. There's plenty of parking, and quite a bit south of the building that often is forgotten or unknown by users. The building is in pretty good condition, although not the fanciest of the schools in the valley. But for a small event (under 300) or professional development sessions, it gets the job done.

I've been an instructor at the Salt Lake campus for over 5 years; it has been fun, challenging, and…read morerewarding. The nursing and dental hygiene programs are difficult (whose programs aren't?), but the pass rates for both programs are exceptional. The HVAC program is outstanding, and the director of that program is well connected and extremely informative. In all programs, many of the instructors have been there for several years. The students who focus their efforts...do well. But many students come into the program thinking that it's going to be a piece a cake and it really isn't. There will be countless hours of studying, and homework. And some of the students who fail out of the program blame the school for that, when in reality they either weren't prepared for the amount of work or just couldn't pass. I've watched hundreds of students graduate over the years and get jobs for 2-4 times what they made before they enrolled, and it is life changing money for them. Fortis College is a good school, and yes, it is expensive, but it's a better option than waiting five years on a waiting list to get into a less expensive school. The overall length of the programs are also much shorter, and this allows the graduate to begin working much faster than a traditional college or university.

I can only speak of my experience at Fortis College and their RN program. First, YES, some of the…read moreinstructors/faculty do care for the success of students. Dr. J, Dean Smithers, Dallen, Professor Gayani, and Professor Rains are genuinely amazing people. However, the turn over of Deans' and instructors really hit me at the beginning of my second year. I was harassed and even bullied by some of the teachers and one past Dean. I tried to lay low and keep my head down after personally breaking down in front of one, when I had enough. One professor literally made me cry and just stared at me with dead eyes, later she had continuous mental break downs during lectures, and would say the most cynical things about nursing and her personal problems. A past Dean singled me out and would take me to an isolation room where she would spook me out before big exams. I should have left then. However, I kept it private, in fear that the "gang" of mean girl teachers would continue to gate-keep and retaliate with grading. I presented the documentation for accommodations- which they miss led me to believe they would provide, I only requested isolated testing. Did not happen. Three retakes and one appeal later, still no accommodation. Testing for HESI with absolutely no preparation besides a shot at remediation. That's where my time at Fortis was wrapped up- with a $19,000 student loan to pay, no degree. One HESI was a 799- you need a 850+ to pass all core nursing courses. Just be aware of the credits being trash, only other private* for -profit schools will consider transferring, the amount of disrespect you'll have to endure, the falsifying of financial agreements you will indeed encounter here, and breaking the law ( American disability act), other than those issues- it was a fun roller coaster ride and *MY biggest life lesson* which is priceless! I made some true blue friends from the trauma bond, as well! ( I'm currently going back to S.L.C.C ) where I have real credits that didn't expire, and most importantly, I will not have to start (completely from scratch). Out of my friend group (5) there was only one who made it through, one they convinced to be a guinea pig for their 'NEW'- LPN program, and three of us- left to figure out how we got bamboozled? (Emotionally, mentally, and financially- I never recommended Fortis to anyone, I cared about...it's that much of a gamble. The proof is on the walls* The 'Hunger games' begin, around (pharmacology- med surg 1) A cohort of ( 35 students - 25 students) = 10 students will continue...This is the weeding out process- they only want the (top scorers) in the end* to fatten their pockets* and to claim their NCLEX passing rate is legit.

There are 7 classes you have to take in the first, 5 in the 2nd, 3 in the 3rd, 4 in the 4th, and 4 in the 5th. In my first semester, here is the good and the bad that I have observed: The bad: I have multiple classes from my local community college that I was told could be transferred over to make me program easier. They even said that I should go do another class at my community college before my Joyce program starts so that I didn't have to pay for it with them. They said that my program would be 15 months instead of 20 months. They said that people have kids and work full-time while doing this program. They said that they are flexible. All this is NOT the case. I found out later, (AFTER THEY SOLD ME THE PROGRAM, after I finished all enrollment requirements, and after I signed every enrollment document), that only one small class could be transferred over from my community college. I also found out that my program would not be 15 months, it would be 20 months. This was extremely disappointing because the transfer of credits and shorter program is what made me sign up for this program. Very strange miscommunication, if thats even what it was. Seems pretty big for a advisor to get wrong. I took this all to the dean, she did not care. All she did was ask me if I wanted to cancel my program. I was years and months into waiting to start this program at this point, canceling was not an option for me, especially with how much flexibility they claim to have, which is also not the case. I had to quit my full-time job, I don't even have kids and I still don't have time for anything. I'm barely getting by. I spend every waking hour of the day studying. I do not believe that there are people who have kids and work full-time while doing this program, I think they say it because it sounds good. If I knew about all of the bad before I committed to the program, I wouldn't have done it. I have given up so much mental health and physical health. Plus saying no to seeing family because I need to study is really sad. But I mean, it is an accelerated program anyway, but still wasn't expecting any of it due to the way they make it seem like sunshine and rainbows. The good: This is only my experience from the first semester. That being said, it is still absolutely doable. It is not impossible. And I have since changed my advisor (Doug) and he has helped me tremendously, leading me in the right direction now. There are many resources for for students from tutoring to one on one with your professor. They do weekly office hours where you can join a zoom and have any questions answered. You can reach out to them over email and they'll help you there (though sometimes they take kinda too long to reply to the point where you don't even need the answer to the question because it's too late, honestly). The material matches a lot of separate online resources that help with other study materials, like youtube videos. The academic schedule during the semesters (the first one at least), are pretty organized in my opinion and they do the same things every week. This is really nice for having a nice study schedule. They provide lots of material that is made for the quizzes and exams to help you practice and pass. The only thing I've struggled with is just having time to do it. Whatever is on your worksheets and slides, will usually be worded the same on the quizzes and exams. Sometimes, they even tell you exactly what questions are going to be on the quizzes and exams to help prepare you. They let you use a whiteboard during the tests too, which is nice for active recall, you can right down a bunch of stuff after you start your tests. I've also never had any technical difficulties on the cavas platform that they use, but if there is, they have 24hr IT support that responds fast. One time I was having an issue with respondus and my professor was very forgiving and relieved me of my late grade. I personally feel like the professors want success in the students. Some other random stuff: The platforms are easy to navigate. They always answer the phone. And the scrubs are cute, lol. Theres probably a lot that I'm missing here, maybe I'll add more later.

We literally parked our car, walked in 5 mins and the lady at the check in desk said "oops looks like you were already given a ticket you have to pay" I said "no I'm not paying it we just got a new plate" she said you have to turn it in DAY BEFORE well I didn't know you were open "Sundays" cause you ARENT! So this turned into a $25 a person situation PLUS a ticket they refused to write off! Only being b*tchy and giving me attitude about it! Screw it we won't come back!
