Hands down, remains my favorite restaurant in the area!! Every dish is a winner and the baked goods are amazing. Sometimes the service/food takes awhile - there were only a few tables this past weekend and our food still took a long time to arrive but it is worth the wait. I didn't love my matcha peach drink - presented beautifully but didn't taste balanced to me (very sour). But food items were excellent! So happy that Chartier is not closing it's doors so we went to support them a few weeks ago. I am pleased to say that the restaurant was full on a cold Wednesday night. Beautiful, cozy atmosphere. We were sitted near the back. And despite the fact that the restaurant was full we felt like we were in an intimate place. Server was a bit slow delivering menus, water, beer etc. in fact our beers came when we were half way done our meals. However, it was really busy. We each ordered a beer to go with the special of the night, fish and chips. 30 bucks is a high price point for the fish, but the portions were massive. The fish was glistening and beautiful. Dear sweet Chartier, the rustic yet refined French-Canadian jewel of the Alberta prairie. Opening in 2016 in the French farming community of Beaumont (a town about half an hour south of Edmonton), this restaurant has become a fast and enduring favourite. They're the only restaurant that I can think of in the province serving French Canadian cuisine at this level and with service for brunch, lunch, dinner, and an insane bakery program you will easily be able to find a million reasons to love this restaurant. Voted as #1 Best Bread 2018 in VUE Weekly, chosen as a Canada's Best New Restaurants nominee in 2017 in enRoute magazine, featured on the second season of Big Food Bucket List, and named Best Brunch 2022 in EDify Magazine... There are no shortage of accolades for Chartier. It's not a secret that this restaurant is beloved by many. Reservations are practically required and I made the journey out to Beaumont like I have many times before on a Sunday evening for dinner, my mind dancing with thoughts of the feast to come. Taking up a large portion of the block, you can't miss this adorable restaurant with it's stylish patio with turquoise accents, stacks of logs, and stylized fleur-de-lis logo that incorporates the image of a fork. The inside is stunning, a space that encompasses various dining rooms and an entire bakery section. There's even a little "general store" area where you can buy goods to take home. It's like walking into a cabane à sucre except gorgeously decorated. Endless amounts of rustic barnwood, beautiful floral wallpaper in different patterns, mis-matched chairs with faux furs strewn overtop, gallery walls filled with frames... You can almost picture it and it's even more beautiful in real life. The entire restaurant is welcoming, cozy, and full of atmosphere. It feels well-broken in. And it's all very special. Somehow I always end up seated in "Alice's Room," no matter how many times I visit. It's an absolutely adorable space, however it doesn't have any windows. It would be nice to see other areas of the restaurant sometime! Our server was prompt, friendly and on top of things. Chartier has a great cocktail program (and they make wonderful non-alcoholic drinks too). I wanted something fun and unique which had to be The GST (Mint & blueberry infused Empress Gin, Little Bear Gelato cucumber lime sorbet, spiced blueberry syrup, Fever Tree tonic - $14.00) - that's gin, sorbet, and tonic. This beverage was exactly what I was looking for. The sorbet made the drink a lot like a fancy alcoholic float and I really enjoyed it. Full of fresh blueberry flavour, I found that the combination of mint and cucumber also really created something refreshing. This was like having a beverage and a palate cleanser all in one. Excellent! And then. There are the beans. There are other small plates & sharables on the menu but do they really count when the beans exist? They might be the very best thing on the whole menu. I'd always heard people talk about them but they certainly must be experienced for one's self. Always order the Haricots Verts (Battered green beans, smoked maple aioli, chilli maple syrup - $19.87). Served in a classic maple syrup tin can, the magic here is the way that this dish showcases the perfect balance of spicy and sweet - one of the hottest (literally and figuratively) flavour combinations right now. You dunk these beautifully golden tempura green beans into a smoked maple mayonnaise dotted with Mexican mole chili oil... And all bets are off. It's the best party of all-time and it's happening right there in your mouth. These are an absolute must. As much as I could go on about the beans (I'll stop) there is also a pretty impressive Charcuterie Nouveau on the menu that sounds completely epic. I haven't ordered it yet but I did have something similar once, when they did their Mother's Day Brunch Charcuterie. It was one of the best boards filled with everything that I'd ever tried. So I expect that their "regular" charcuterie is just as wonderful. For the main course it was going to be a "go big or go home situation." Especially with the Poutine de la Mer Rosenau (Two 4oz Atlantic lobster tails, 10oz of Effing Seafood chowder, PEI mussels, 2lbs of triple cooked hand cut yukon gold potatoes, Old School Cheesery cheese curds, Montreal style gravy, magic - $93.17) as an option. But there are other really amazing sounding items on the menu and I only wish that I had enough stomachs to try them all! For example, I have major regrets about not yet trying the Sugar Shack Fried Chicken Sandwich - whenever I'd see one go by they looked SO GOOD. We love the ambiance of the restaurant, but the last few times we've felt underwhelmed. This is the first time we've been since the menu, investors, etc changed. A 3 seems low but a 4 felt too high. Service was awesome as usual Parking is in front and along the main road. French onion soup was lacking its usual richness. Almost watered down version from before. Poutine was great Dill pickle & parsnip soup - interesting flavour combo, a bit of bite to it, earthy. Overall, it's pretty good Special was pulled bison tartine (can't remember actual name) - it was good. The pulled bison was nicely marinated, good portion, bread was toasted well. I'm sure by now most have read or heard that Chartier will be closing their doors at the end of September, so when I saw their Instagram post that they were going to close, I knew I had to make reservations right away. I always eat at Chartier whenever I come visit my family in Edmonton. My most favorite thing is the haricots vests which is battered green beans with maple aioli and chili maple syrup. It's creatively served in a maple syrup can which adds to the aesthetics. Overall the food is amazing. Every time I come, there's something a little different with the menu which I appreciate a lot. The restaurant itself is super adorable, the decor is so unique. Interestingly, it's a culmination of the people living in Edmonton and it makes the place very homey. The servers are very friendly and pleasant to talk to. I am not a wine drinker so I wanted to try the beer they had but having trouble deciding. The server offered to give me samplers to see which I like better and I really appreciate that. How do you say freaking fantastic in French!? Tres Bien! Excuse my French lol but this place was all my jam, and not just the jam Dijon mustard we had on the smoked sandwich. If you like sourdough and bread this place is for you too! I adore that there is a bakery attached and used across their menu; the specialty breads, like the Nova Scotia brown bread made with molasses, was such a treat to see because I've never seen it anywhere else! (I know about it from a family recipe on my husbands side so I'm totally biased with my love for it). I was totally going to buy a loaf before I left but due to the extraordinarily long wait for our entrees they gave us a loaf of it. I'm happy I got to try it and it definitely would have been worth buying. We ended up also ordering the bread and butter because I heard it was just divine, added on a side of Brie as well because why not! Well $13 why not was a bit overpriced but it is Brie after all. The bread and butter on its own I think would have been satisfactory glory enough for me personally. It's whipped lavender honey butter don't forget!! Then for the entrees, I've already lead on about the Smoked Sandwich, but I was quite surprised that this is one of their top menu items. When it did arrive it was a super meaty sandwich with delicious smoked meat and delicate fluffy bread. Even though we had to pack it up to go it totally held up for when we ate it later that night! That's some darn good bread! We also ordered the second most popular menu item: chicken pot pie, they had some other fancy word for it but it escapes me now. It was SO good though! I dare say the steamed brussel sprout slaw next to it might have almost topped over the chicken pie itself! So well done! Street parking on a busy street was stressful but there is parking behind this restaurant as well. Only 50% busy at 5:30PM on a Saturday. Some really nice outdoor seating in front of the restaurant as well. Nice clean 2 stall restroom. Lots of really unique cocktails to choose from. We tried the Craft beers on tap. The Eighty-eight Tiffany Rose saison was a little bitter for my taste. The Trial + Ale Brunch raspberry sour had great kick and lovely aftertaste. We sat at the bar and the bartender was kind enough to pour us samples of each so we could decide which one to get. Waitress recommended the Smoked Meat sandwich and Chicken Pithivier so we Had to try those! We also tried the Bread, Butter, and Beyond with Brie extra $13. Sooooo good. Small loaf of sourdough (5 slices) with quite a large circle of brie (maybe 2.5inches diameter?) More than enough for 2 people - as an appetizer probably better for 3-4 people. Smoked Meat sandwich - bread was so soft and thick and fresh. Meat was very tender and flavorful and a good portion. Fries were thick-cup which isn't my favorite but they looked pretty. We had to choose a mustard flavor (honey mustard, jam dijon, or grainy horseradish) and we chose jam which was really nice. Chicken Pithivier - puff pastry was perfect, nice and light and crispy. Inside was very dry though, kind of looked like all the gravy fell through the bottom and was on the plate. Brussel sprout slaw (looked like shredded steamed Brussel spouts) was very nice and light flavor. Too full for dessert. Food took 45 minutes to arrive which I though was too long so ensure you plan to be here a while. We had to pack most of our entrees to-go as we did not have time to eat them due to the long wait time and our next commitment. As an apology we were given 1 loaf of Brown bread. We ate this next day and it was wonderful. So soft and flavorful - 10/10. Loved that the bakery was a big part of this place and worth getting a bread appy or entrée for sure! read more

I've been hearing about this place for ages and finally got an opportunity to go for brunch. The vibe of this place is super cool like grandma's house meets Gaston's pub haha. We were promptly sat (with a reservation) and our waitress was delightful. The bread and butter was amazing as an appie. Honestly I probably could have just eaten the whole loaf and called it a day. But that would be unladylike I ordered the mushroom and herb eggs Benny which was pretty tasty and awesome. It did get a bit overwhelmed by the leafy greens on the plate. I would probably order it again though given the chance. I really liked how the day before our reservation I got a text allowing me to preorder any of the bakery items. Which was pretty cool. I've heard many great things about this place and I was excited to finally try their food. Unfortunately, my dinner experience here was a bit underwhelming. My partner and I made a reservation to eat here at 8pm on a Saturday night. We were seated quickly when we arrived and we can see that the place was filled with people. We ordered the following: Mussels Special for the night $14- Mussels were okay. I've tasted better mussels at other restaurants. It tasted full of tomato flavor but I felt like it was missing an ingredient to give it a special kick. Redtail Beef Bourguignon $26- I was expecting to be wowed by this dish as many people have posted about it. However it tasted like average braised beef and there wasn't anything that stood out to me from the bites I took from it. Sourdough Skinned Salmon $25- I liked the sourdough topping and the maple toasted pistachios really enhanced the dish. The salmon by itself tasted bland. I liked my first few bites into this dish but by the end, it felt like a chore to finish since the overall flavor tasted odd. Grapefruit Reverie $10- this was an enjoyable fruity cocktail Affogato- we ended our night with this dessert. It was a bit small and nothing special. Perhaps we ordered the wrong food items because this place has so many good reviews. We dined at Chartier last evening for our 30th wedding anniversary. This is a beautiful little spot tucked away in Beaumont Alberta. We had the Pissaladiere as an appetizer and it didn't disappoint... it was very tasty ... probably more than we needed as a starter but we couldn't leave any on the plate. For our main course we choose the Redtail Farms Pasture Trio and Buttered Berkshire. The meatballs on the Pasture trio were very tasty. My husband is not a fan of risotto but was willing to try it as he really enjoys meatballs. Unfortunately the risotto was very bland and disappointing. I love risotto but would agree with his assessment. I would give the Berkshire a 5 star rating. The pork was done perfectly and the gnocchi was amazing ... I shared the gnocchi with my husband. Chartier has been on my radar for a couple of months now, and I found myself in a position to take advantage of some extra time to go and check it out. Upon entering this charming little restaurant, I noted it had very old country bakery/store feel to it. With jars of canned preserves and baked breads on display. I was a bit disappointed however when I was seated in a rather dark corner of the restaurant hidden from its charm. The service and staff were all very pleasant however. I ordered the Beaumont smoked meat sandwich ( that comes with fries) $23, I was asked if I wanted them as poutine. Which of course I agreed. I had seen the poutine price at around $9 on the menu, and assumed a discount of sorts would be applied to the upgrade. I also ordered a nice brown ale. The sandwich with smoked meat and blueberry Dijon mustard was presented on homemade bread, a separate bowl of thick cut fries cheese curds and gravy. The meal was pleasant and satisfied. I was disappointed in the bill for this meal coming in with 15% tip at $47 and change. Definitely a bit pricey for what I had. On the positive side. I had high expectations coming into Chartier and they were all met and possibly exceeded. We had to sit at the bar since we didn't have a reservation and the whole place was booked up until later in the evening when we had an event. This is great though the bartenders were very friendly and helpful with the menu. I started off having a spirit free cocktail (Little bird). It was a blueberry Mojito concoction and so delicious. We ordered so much food and it was all very delicious. We started with the green beans which were in a tempura batter and drizzled with chili flakes and maple syrup served with a really great aïoli. Then my husband had the burger special which was a pizza burger, his dream of combining the toppings of a meat lovers pizza on a hamburger. I had the Montreal smoked meat and that was also very tasty. I particularly enjoyed the meat which was very tender and flavorful. For sides we had the poutine And the Cesar salad. The poutine had very good gravy. We had tons of food and couldn't finish it in our limited time but enjoyed what we did have. We also grabbed a cinnamon bun from the bakery on our way out to enjoy it at home after event. Overall, highly recommend Chartier. it's worth the drive from Edmonton! I recently read about this restaurant online, in an article about the top restaurants in Canada. When I saw that they are located in Beaumont, I got really excited because my sister lives there and I was going to visit her for Christmas. I immediately made a reservation to take my sister for lunch the day I arrived in town. When we got there, the restaurant was quite busy. Thank goodness I had made a reservation! We were seated right away and quickly read over the menu. Everything sounded amazing so it was tough deciding what to get. We settled on some mussels to start, followed by their smoked meat sandwich and the lobster mac & cheese. The broth with the mussels had bits of chorizo and blue cheese swimming in it. Their house-made sourdough bread was lightly charred and perched on top, still warm from the grill. Perfect for soaking up that delicious broth. The smoked meat was accompanied by grainy mustard and crunchy pickles, between slices of sourdough. I discovered they also sell their bread at the front of the restaurant (or at a separate window outside in the warmer months) Of course, we picked up a couple on our way home! The lobster mac & cheese was my favourite - thank goodness we were sharing everything - I don't think I would've been happy with only a few bites of this. The portion is a good size, and the sauce was creamy and oh-so-cheesy, topped with crunchy panko breadcrumbs. Yum! The highlight of the meal for me, the real star of the day, was the dessert. Specifically, the lemon meringue dessert. This was absolute perfection. I will have to find excuses to visit my sister more often, just so I can go back to have this dessert. It was WOW. The lemon curd was sweet and and tart, the texture was nice and smooth, and the shortbread cookie was a stellar choice to have as the crust. All of this was topped by lightly torched marshmallowy meringue and a sprig of mint. For me, dessert doesn't get much better than this. Our server was very friendly and made some good recommendations. She did forget to put in one of our orders, but was quick to fix it. It was fortunate that we were sharing, though, as one of us would've been eating our entrée alone otherwise. It's definitely a bit pricey for the area, but coming from Vancouver and now Toronto, I'm used to seeing more expensive restaurants. I think as people start to have a greater appreciation for high quality food, they won't mind spending a few more dollars for it. I have gone here many times, and have always had an amazing experience/service. However, this time around I left very disappointed. I had made reservations weeks in advance, arrived a few mins before and was completely ignored for several minutes and servers had walked past us completely ignoring us, BUT would greet people that had arrived after us that didn't have a reservation. But told them they would find them a table right away. As we were FINALLY greeted, they seated us. Once our food arrived, we had only taken a couple of bites and were only 5 mins into eating, and our server asked if we needed to go containers. I did not like the feeling of being rushed. The service was great and it was quite lots at first because it was packed but after 2pm it got quieter. Their plates and cutler have so much character they are all different. Great service including all the info about the special price on charcuterie, differences between the cheeses and even taking the time to tell me why there was salt on the plate for the bread and butter (hello fresh sourdough bread that brought happiness to my soul like I was in SFO). Excellent food from appetizer to dessert. Cool drink menu selection and bar was well sectioned off but flowed nicely with the restaurant. There was an outside seating area right beside the walk up bread window. The restaurant was mostly full with larger tables and we didn't have a hard time talking amongst the two of us. Extra bonus is that there is street parking as well as parking behind the restaurant. Now about the food. As it was my first time there and as I was much earlier than anticipated, I thought I'd take advantage of the before 6 pm prices. The first of the two Sam's brought me a sample of the cheese (all 3 were fantastic) but I went with the one with the orange rind (oka?) as I wasn't sure on how big a loaf of bread really was there. I could have easily ordered more cheese but no matter, I was happily in my own bliss with the butter and salt on fresh sourdough bread. I selected the cod for supper and for a brief second I had food envy of the beef dish my friend ordered. That disappeared pretty fast as I got lost in the comfort food flavours in my dish. Thank goodness I still had some bread from the charcuterie so I could wipe my dish clean! We somehow managed to create enough space in our very full stomachs for a very sharable pie crust dessert rolls topped with ice cream. All I gotta say is that I'll be back to try the other desserts, as there were plenty of options. Just before we left, I'm assuming the manager came out with two loaves of bread for us to take home as a thank you for being so understanding about the hot room temperature (honestly thought it was me for the first bit until the waitress mentioned she was melting too when she saw my paper fan). This place is my go to before shopping at the outlet. We live in the northside and each time i try something new out of the menu. I had their breakfast poutine and hubby had the reuben. Both were delicious. We shared both dishes and we were so full that we didn't have room for dessert. The good news was they have a bread window where you can take home their baked goods. Who can honestly pass up a CRONUT with cookie dough filling. We took a sourdough bread and some cronuts home. I just love the ambience of this place, cozy and classy. Then the impeccable food and attentive customer service makes that 45 minutes drive well worth it. read more

Came here for brunch with family, the menu was more breakfast than lunch. There maybe two items on the menu that did not involve eggs. We ordered couple of cinnamon buns to share, Poutine, Egg Donovan, Mushroom Bennie and Pain Perdu which was our favorite. It was basically french toast and had some bacon bits on it. The combination of sweet and savory was very nice. Our second favorite was the cinnamon buns, soft and not overly sweet. The gravy on the Poutine was very rustic. The Egg Donovan and Mushrooms Bennie were quite okay, but the crust of the sourdough bread was chewy and hard to cut. In my opinion, the amount of Hollandaise put on the poach eggs was a little lacking. We had two servers due to shift change, both were very friendly and chatted with us but the speed of the service was a little slow. Also, the milk that the kids had was sour. If I am in Edmonton again, I will try to go back perhaps for dinner. read more

The Chartier has been on my foodie bucket list since last month. So, decided to explore the place with my family on weekend for a brunch. Make sure you get your table reserved on call before heading to Chartier, because they have a long waiting period. Talking about ambience, their furniture really go along with the dim lights and rustic look. Their crockery collection is also interesting and fascinating. Well, not to forget about the fur covers on chairs. They add up brightness and glow to those chairs. Coming to order: We ordered the delicious large plates by Chartier. 1. Scotch egg: My goodness, this boiled egg wrapped with sausage meat and deep fried with barbecue sauce and mayo tasted so delicious and amazing . 2. Les Oeufs: A classic english breakfast with egg, sausage and smashed baby potato. 3. Mushroom on Toast Bennie: These sautèed mushrooms and mushroom mousse plate is a perfect to start a day with vegeterian meal. Crispy smashed baby potatoes served with every plate was actually addiction because they were so delicious and mouthwatering. Talking about desserts: Check their dessert of the day menu to know more. Pumpkin spice cheesecake: Well not impressed with the cheesecake being so much sweet. Which somewhere restricts the flavour of cheesecake. Chartier has been on my radar ever since the beginning of their successful Kickstarter campaign. Rustic, French-Canadian food in Edmonton, er, Beaumount is a pretty hard thing to find in this neck of the woods. I can't recall ever coming to Beaumont but it's a cute little town and surprisingly not too far of a drive from the "city". They have a beautiful patio outside with about five long tables but no one was sitting outside when we arrived. If the weather was a little better, I'm sure it would have been full. L and J came with me for a Wednesday evening dinner and lucky we had the foresight to make a reservation! The place was packed for a freaking Wednesday which I took as a very good sign. From the moment you walk in, you can tell everyone loves being here. Real genuine, kind and compassionate service that's a rarity these days. Seriously, everyone from the hostess to our waitress were fantastic. We even got to chat with Sylvia near the end of our meal - interesting that her take on the restaurant is that they want you to leave feeling stuffed silly. Reminds me of the glutinous visions of Au Pied du Cochon and Joe Beef. The inside is absolutely gorgeous with a great eye for detail: the lighting is lovely, the blue, hand painted bar area is charming, the assortment of mismatching chairs along with the fancy plating. My one friend would love this place based on the plates alone. Endearing would be a good way to put it. - Bread & butter ($5.00) - Haricots vert ($9.00) - Poutine ($10.00) - Fish and chips ($20.00) - Duck grunt ($26.00) - Salmon pea-gnocchi-o ($25.00) - Beaumont Betty ($9.00) - Pouding chômeur ($7.00) Is it worth the drive to little ol Beaumount? If you're wondering if brunch here is worth a trip out to Beaumont, lemme tell you now... IT IS. Although it was mainly street parking I saw, there were a few spots available. We also made reservations on the day of and just 30 minutes prior to arrival since my little one was at a birthday party and I was craving something beyond fast food on a Saturday. The interior is quite cozy, rustic, but with elegant touches, and mismatched chairs that all suits the cabin like theme. Service is quick, friendly, and very helpful with assisting (we had asked for extra napkins, cutlery, and a couple other things with our messy little one). The food here though... it's next level... from presentation, texture, and taste; it's very unique and memorable. We had the scotch egg, mushroom benedict toast, and pain perdu. And; because the entrance doubles as their bakery, we took home 2 orange creamsicle cronuts...yes I typed right: CRONUTS...available locally here! The food is so impressive here, I cannot find words that would properly describe it, but it's absolutely a restaurant gem in Beaumont and I'd love to come back to try their other dishes during their lunch or dinner times. read more

We decided to go for a late snack and drink maybe last Thursday. We have always wanted to try chartier but we just continuously have ventured into the city. We got there and it was packed!! We were shocked it was almost 8pm and only spots at the bar. Which was totally fine with us. We ended up trying two drinks each. My husband went with the featured cask which he said for craft was one of the best he's tried. I went with a strawberry champagne cocktail. Oh my GOODNESS. Delicious. We decided naturally on the poutine and the green beans. Well they were out of this world. The best poutines I've ever had. The green beans were also fabulous. Service was wonderful. He was a very friendly guy behind the bar. We can't wait to try it out for dinner! read more
