    Educators Credit Union

I'm sorry for the long review...It's my first and I'm not sure how these are supposed to be done…read morebut I honestly feel that this is good information for potential customers. Also, I know that the NAME of the business is "Educators Credit Union", but you do NOT have to be a teacher to have an account here...You can be a firefighter, police officer, nurse, doctor, EMT, paramedic, etc...! I believe you just have to have a job doing public service! My husband is a firefighter and paramedic. I wrote this paragraph at the end of my review but moved it to the top for a forewarning of the long review and informational purposes of the ability to go to this incredible Credit Union! Although we have accounts at both, there REALLY is a difference between a bank and a Credit Union...At least, between our bank and Educators Credit Union! That's NOT to say that I don't like our bank (I wouldn't keep any accounts there if I hated it)...But I LOVE Educators Credit Union in Elkhorn! The tellers are always sure to welcome you in the moment you walk in the door and treat you kindly, regardless of whether you are doing a deposit, withdrawal, making a loan payment, or there to see a personal banker in hopes of getting a loan! I will get back to the loan thing in a second but I also wanted to mention that the tellers will ALSO try to help you figure out what's wrong, if you are having any issues, with your account...Such as unknown charges on your account or overdraft fees and, if THEY can't help you they'll ask for help from the personal bankers that have been there longer and have more experience. Back to the loans... If you need a loan Educators Credit Union is a GREAT place to go for it! I know, for a fact (because I have had in the past, or CURRENTLY have), that they do: credit rebuilding loans (I didn't have this one but a family member did), personal loans, holiday loans, credit cards, and vehicle loans! I believe they ALSO have mortgage loans but, unfortunately, we've already got that one through our bank and, fortunately for us, the bank actually had a similar interest rate! However, our credit cards compared between the bank and the Credit Union have VASTLY different interest rates and the Credit Union is FAR superior! The Credit Union ALSO offered a FAR superior interest rate EVERY time we've needed a vehicle loan over the past 18 years!!! Besides the interest rate being so superior, the personal banker that has helped us over the past 18 years (even before she got married and was still Kym Moore! LOL) Kym Perrelli, has ALWAYS been amazing about making sure that ALL our financial needs were met! She has made sure, with our last vehicle loan, to make sure that it was enough to also cover the cost of licensing and registration! In the past we've had her add the cost of other loans to a vehicle loan so that we would be able to pay off the higher interest loan immediately and be left with the lower interest vehicle loan only to pay. The people truly care about helping you get to a better financial position and would never, in MY experience, give you a loan that you would have any issues paying back...Which, I think, is WHY Kym tried to add loans together when she could! Yes, it made a slightly higher vehicle payment, but only after removing a MUCH higher other monthly payment did she ever do that! I can't tell you how much I appreciate her for that because, thanks to her, our credit score is finally getting better after a bankruptcy had to be filed years ago! Again...sorry for the long review but I hope that my information helps you!

We may all know that by now. They mistakenly deposited money into her account. So, she called them to make sure it was, in fact, her money. They say "yes". She goes about her life thinking it was money owed to her. Fast forward a couple weeks. They DRAIN her accounts. She calls them asking what is going on. They tell her, in no uncertain terms, "the money never belonged to you, so you owe it back". Now, if I'm not mistaken, THEY put the money in the wrong account and gave her false information. THEY should be taking the hit, not my mother. A very shady institution. I would give zero stars if I could. They are absolutely disgusting.

I have had a…read moresavings account that out of the blue started charging me monthly fees since December because I was not maintaining a $1,000 balance. The manager was rude and would not reverse any fees, and his explanation to me was that I was out of my "promotional" period years ago. On top of that I had overdraft fees post to my account when they did not recognize transfers or direct deposit showing available funds. I closed my accounts and will never bank with this institution ever again, the hidden fee abuse is unreal. I have also had to deal with countless fraudulent charges or "mistakes" from an account with a number close to mine that was taking out insurance payments from my account. Hands down the worst experience ever.

It took numerous tries to connect with human by phone (eventually got rep in Manila who immediately put me back on hold until someone in the US picked up) only to discover problem is known issue with their online banking App. Oops. After performing work around to get into account, I discover a dozen monthly service fees slowly eating up my balance (now illegal in Illinois.) After numerous tries to get back in touch with them by phone, and 20 minutes on hold, I get transferred to service rep in Manila again who has no access to account and again puts me back on hold. After 20 more minutes I reached someone in USA who also has no access to see account statements so says she has no proof of what I am reporting - THOUGH I AM LOOKING RIGHT AT THE STATEMENT ONLINE WHILE WE ARE TALKING!! Simpler and less costly to my time if I just write off the fees and close account. One less business that hates customers that I have to deal with. Plus I already have an account with a wonderful credit union and an account at Blackhawk Bank in Rockford if I need a personal banker. (Gave them one star above lowest for having cheapest foreign currency rate - which was only reason I opened account.)

They have so many errors on their end and they refuse to do anything over the phone but it's nearly impossible for me to get in during their hours. They always have your balance wrong on the app, so don't trust it! They charged me overdraft fees after I called to check my balance (I know, silly me for thinking I could trust their app) prior to spending money, and they said they would refund 1 of the fees and I would see it post within 24 hours, never posted. I call, and the lady basically tells me I'm making this up, nobody told me that.. unless I recall her name, which I don't (which she claims is 'convenient' for me. Don't you think they would keep record of who I talked to since it was a phone banker?) She told me that I made this up because they "don't do refunds anymore." Then she said "and when we do refunds it's instant." So which is it you don't do them, or it's instant? Clearly if this lady who claims to be a senior banker is correct, then the employee I spoke to isn't trained well and lied to a customer that you are now treating like a criminal. If the app displayed my correct account information I would've deposited money or transferred from my other account. I was negative for 2 days before my account even reflected it on my end and they charge me for both of those days. I even have screen shots showing my account had 95$ on it, when they were saying it was negative. Guess what, I have to make it in within their hours to show them my screenshot, they don't have an email I can send it to. If you want someone to lie about your balance, and then charge you for believing their lies, and then call you a liar for trusting one of their telephone bankers, US Bank is definitely for you. I've talked to 4 people now who say they experienced the same type of things with US Bank. They all recommend associated bank. Time to take my money elsewhere. Also switching my elderly families bank accounts so US doesn't rip them off!

EVERY time I call customer service I'm put on hold to transfer to a different department multiple times with a wait time of 20-45 minutes EACH. The local branches are nice but literally don't do a thing except exchange money since they are at the mercy of an online system also. The second my funds are available I'm going to a new bank. Nobody cares that they're taking food out of your family's mouth or that you have other bills due. This company puts value on computer systems more than people. The past 2 weeks I've been cashing checks at the payers banks because I can't trust my own bank. That is NOT OKAY. You should never have an issue trusting the people you Bank with.
