I have opened an account with Wells Fargo (in Foley) for the purpose of depositing a larger amount…read moreof money coming from an estate. I was told to deposit $500.00 to avoid paying bank fees. I told the clerk and the manager that I would be depositing a large amount of money after it gets transferred from another bank. My transfer of money was delayed by several months. Later on, the rules changed, and the bank began withdrawing fees from my account. Then I received a letter stating that my account was dormant because I had not made any "qualifying transactions." They wrote that once an account is dormant, according to state law, Wells Fargo must transfer the account funds to the state, and if this happens, I would need to file a claim with the state to recover my account funds. In other words, they encouraged me to go somewhere else. I have many accounts with other banks, some of them for over 30 years, and they have never become "dormant." Part of my estate money arrived, and I deposited it with another bank. I certainly don't need a Wells Fargo account; there are many banks that are gladly taking my deposits.

You never receive a reversal nor a phone call with any kind of explanation or "Sorry, can't do it"! The next month they withhold your social security deposit which should have been available to you on Sunday at midnight. They choose to not release funds until Monday morning!
