    ATM (no secured enclosure)

[Review #746] 2023-032 My son's Chinese school uses Chase for their banking needs; I'm currently serving as the Treasurer. When school's in session, I'm usually taking care of their banking needs at the branches up on the hill. Since school's not in session this summer, this Chase branch is nearest to me. Formerly Washington Mutual, this location is off Torrance Blvd. near old town Torrance. I'm not a customer of Chase due to conflict from my college days, & don't have faith in this institution to serve our financial needs. I came on a Saturday morning to deposit next school year's tuition checks & find myself uncomfortably waiting awhile (I've seen people loitering nearby in the past when I'm waiting for the signal light) at an exposed ATM. The machine needed time to read/process the checks, unlike the olden days when one has to write a deposit slip & slip an envelope for the deposit. While this method improves accuracy, reading & showing visually the check's pic & allowing edits for the reader is incorrect or the writing is illegible. For safety of their patrons, I hope this branch will consider building an ATM enclosure to protect their customers' well-bring.

Shut down my account from another bank because they were no-bueno and decided to open one up in here. I went directly to another branch but was told that they're doing appointments only and that I had to go online to do that. (I'm guessing it's a pandemic precaution thing.) I didn't mind it at all. I had plenty of time to do all that. So, I went online to do just that. Although there's a closer branch to home, for some odd reason, I was being directed to a branch (this one) a few miles further. I learned later that only certain branches are doing new accounts and the rest are for either ATM or teller services only. (I'm attributing this to the pandemic as well.) This worked for me since I was going to be doing errands headed this area anyway. I was a few minutes late. I noticed an unknown number poppin' out on my phone and I knew it was the bank calling. I didn't bother answering since I was already at the parking lot. (I thought that was cool, though.) I dealt with worker Sielantonio. Since I did my research beforehand, I knew exactly what kind of account I wanted. I won't bother going into details but the whole transaction was easy. Everything simply went smoothly. (On a funny note, he guessed what bank I took my money out from and revealed he, too, had problems there when he used to bank with them.) People like walking away from a business transaction in ease. That's exactly how I felt here. Here's hoping that kinda feeling remains.

    Emptyyyy

I had to wait to be serviced, I had to print out my bank statement for my proof of address for the DMV that day, and everybody was busy although it was slow make up kind of being passed from one person to another. But it probably was just slightly hectic although it was basically empty they were on calls, they were nice about everything.

Can you find the teller ignoring everybody ??

They didn't make any effort to contact a manager, research it online, or check whether such services existed within their company or affiliates. If I have to do all the research myself, I might as well do business with myself! It turns out this service has actually existed since 2012 through Royal Bank Georgia. I suggest updating staff training and product knowledge. Thanks to AI technology, I was able to find the information on my own--and I'm now a very happy customer.

Need a Loan Officer Who Gets It? Call Paul Marshall…read more Buying a home is stressful enough, but when you're using a specialized program like City National Bank's Ladder Up, you need a loan officer who knows how to navigate the process, advocate for you, and keep things moving. That's exactly what I found in Paul Marshall. The Ladder Up Program is designed to increase Black and Brown homeownership, especially in communities where those groups are the majority. It's a powerful resource, and I'm grateful it exists. But like any program with grants and specialized requirements, it takes patience, persistence, and someone who understands the process inside and out--that's where Paul came in. From the moment I started, Paul handled my loan with urgency, care, and a level of professionalism that made all the difference. He wasn't just doing paperwork--he was actively advocating for me, making sure my loan didn't get stuck in the process. And let me tell you, this wasn't an easy timeline. I started without a preapproval, and Thanksgiving and Christmas both landed right in the middle of my escrow period. That alone could have pushed things into the new year, but Paul stayed on top of every detail, ensuring we closed in just 40 days while securing the maximum Ladder Up grant award. What really stood out was Paul's ability to reassure and problem-solve when things felt overwhelming. He understood the unique dynamics of my transaction--where both the buyer and seller came from the same historically underserved community--and handled everything with the cultural awareness and dedication this kind of work requires. If you're considering homeownership and want a loan officer who will fight for you, guide you, and get you to the finish line, Paul Marshall at City National Bank is the one you want on your team. I can't recommend him enough!
