Years ago, I broke my wrist really badly, and they did my surgery, and then all the therapy I needed to be able to use it as before. They took excellent care of me, and I have had no issues with it since the accident. I recently had them check out my artificial hip, which, after many years, has started popping out of joint. I originally had the hip done at Augusta Medical College, but it now needs a revision. Dr. Holtzclaw examined me and is a good man to deal with. I had a generally positive experience with the medical side of Chatham Orthopedics. The doctors and nurses I interacted with were professional, respectful, and provided good care overall. That said, my experience with the billing and payment process was extremely frustrating. Before surgery, while I was injured, vulnerable, and had not even had time to collect a paycheck, I received multiple separate payment demands. The surgery center told me I needed to pay about $2,000 up front and indicated that was the only up-front payment I would be responsible for. Then the physician's office contacted me requesting another $1,500 and also represented that as the only payment I needed to make. After that, the anesthesiologist contacted me requesting roughly another $1,000 before surgery. It felt relentless and deeply stressful at a time when I was already dealing with a serious injury and preparing for surgery. I ultimately paid the surgery center, but the whole process became even more frustrating because my insurance out-of-pocket maximum is $3,500. Because of the way these charges were handled, my insurance has been slow to catch up, and I have had to keep paying money out of pocket even though I should be at or near the point where my insurance covers 100%. I understand that medical billing is complicated, but the way this was handled felt disorganized and unnecessarily aggressive. The care itself was good, and I respect the nurses and doctors, but the financial experience left a very bad impression. read more

Had a total knee revision after the failure of the first partial replacement done in Columbus OH. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Dr Greer Noonberg was my surgeon and I couldn't possibly have made a better choice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After a five hour total revision surgery, I spoke to him after in recovery and he told me of the carnage he found. Dr. Noonburg thoroughly explained what he and his team did in the procedure. The surgery was so successful, I was up and walking unaided in 36 hours with much improvement. I am now 22 days post op and nearly completely pain free. Recovery has been the best of any of my knee surgeries ( three total) I would recommend Dr. Noonburg over anyone for knee replacement/revision surgery. read more

I saw Mark Jenkins 8/15/2025. I hurt my knee doing jumping jacks and it had not healed itself after 6 weeks. He took an x-ray. He examined my knee by having it in 1 position and applied pressure around the knee. He told me I had arthritis and should take supplements. He told me no MRI was necessary. I went to my primary care Dr. and he had me get a MRI. The diagnosis is a complex tear of the posterior horn and body-posterior horn junction of the medial meniscus, which demonstrates both vertical as well as horizontal components extending to the femoral as well as tibial articular surface. I went in for a follow up to my mri on my knee. I do not even think he read the radiology report or looked at the mri. He said I just have mind arthritis in my right knee. This was obviously not the case since my knee had already been injected with cortisone steroids. In that case my knee would no longer hurt. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had his assistant have him come back in and I asked him again what is your diagnosis. He said mild arthritis of the knee and the insurance company would laugh at me if I ordered surgery then he left.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] At this point I ordered a copy of my MRI done in office and a copy of the radiology report that stated I had a root tear I was unable to accept his diagnosis due to the severe debilitating pain in my knee. I went ahead and booked an appointment with Dr Boaen at sports orthopedics on white bluff rd. At first he considered my diagnosis and then said let me go back and take a better look at your MRI. He agreed with the radiology report that I had torn the root holding down my meniscus to the bone. He promptly scheduled me for his next surgery opening. Unfortunately he was booked up until January 16th. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I do not recommend Dr Jenkins. Not only did he misdiagnose my injury he made me feel like an idiot for questioning him.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I told his office the true diagnosis and had them email it to Dr Jenkins. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After months of trying to find a provider to see my 15 year old for back pain, and a possible protruding disc noted on MRI, I was able to make an appointment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I took a copy of the MRI disc with us to the appointment, and x-rays were taken at the facility the day of the appointment by the provider she saw. An initial course of action was decided and acted upon, however, did not help alleviate any pain or symptoms. The next appointment my child was referred to a different provider at the same facility to see if she was a candidate for a different course of treatment. We sat in a back room for over an hour past our appointment time before meeting with the provider. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The nurse asked us if we brought the radiology notes from the MRI disc (which I previously provided) and x-ray notes (which they did on site upon our initial visit).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After some more waiting I was advised the MRI disc had been mistakenly filed at the wrong facility so the provider could not view it to discuss the results with us. The provider ordered lab tests to be conducted and sent us on our way. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Lab tests were done, and I contacted the provider's officer to let them know and inquire about when to expect to be contacted about results. I was told there was no way to know how long it would take to get results back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Fast forward 3 weeks later and I contact the lab to inquire about results. The lab advised that results were sent in to the provider that ordered them 1 week prior to my contacting the lab[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I contact the provider's office to ensure they have the results before scheduling a follow up, only to be told that a referral was sent to a different specialty clinic.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] To say that I am unimpressed by this facility and staff is putting it very nicely. They are so busy that we were never seen any less than 30 mins past our appointment time and misplaced some very important documents that were obviously needed to make informed decisions regarding patient care. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I don't tend to write bad reviews, however, the lack of communication between the staff at the facility and with following up with their patients is disheartening.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I am sitting here wondering if I would have ever been notified of the referral that was sent in, which needs to be approved by our pcm in order to be covered by insurance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I am thoroughly disappointed and will never go back. read more

16 yo daughter ACL surgery- From initial visit to surgery to PT to follow up visit, 1st class all the way. Dr Wheeler has great bedside manners and was great with our daughter. Explained everything AND gave great insight as to what it takes to practice in the medical field. OR prep/recovery teams are phenomenal. Shout out yo nurse Dorthy. Super sweet lady, especially at 7 am! Receptionist is very nice...at 6 am! PT team ( Derek, Casey, and Kaitlen) are the best in the business. Front office team were and are very helpful. Records team- shout out to Ms Beverly, very helpful. Could not have asked for a better experience for both our daughter and the family as a whole. I have been here for my wrist and ankle. Both Dr. Prather (ankle) and Dr. Levitt (wrist) were knowledgeable and helpful in planning a treatment. My wife had shoulder surgery for a rotator cuff tear and bicep and labrum issues with Dr. Ochsner. Surgery went well and she is currently having successful PT. I wouldn't hesitate to use them in the future. read more

Had an accident on River Street without alcohol involved. Trying to act younger than I am. Jumping up from the parking lot to the walking area about 3 ft ledge loosing my balance and crashing down on a concrete parking block and twisting my ankle and foot. Was recommended to come here by my sister-in-law who lives here. Was worried when I saw the reviews. To be honest to get the type of service that I received on any day of the week, but even on a Saturday is pretty amazing. Dr Melissa was absolutely great. Checked and rechecked and triple checked with another Dr. The gentleman that does the aircast/boot was awesome. Like seriously great, he knew our insurance was accepted so he told us how to put it on all about it even though my brother-in-law has me that I'm going to use. Endured a long wait to schedule and obtain an appointment then had to get the MRI performed 2 hours away due to the lack of desired equipment in Pooler and Savannah. Called twice to get results after imaging center stated they would be in the next day. Waited 3 weeks for appointment to get results only to be told they never received any. To add insult to injury the nurse was so kind to tell me that when she prepped for the appointment last week she noticed there were no results. I guess my 3 week wait and driving to the appointment weren't a good enough reason to call, text or email me or the imaging center. read more

Hip replacement. Wife was scheduled for,surgery. She was preped and given IV. Then before surgery time was told it was cancelled because the surgeon's assistant did not show. The surgery was rescheduled and after the procedure was sent home without pain medication prescription. All of several attempts to correct this were futile. She was scheduled for first PT the,following day but will likely have to cancel not being able to tolerate,it this early on without pain medication. The result of this will prolong her recovery and resulted in greater then message physical and emotional pain. read more

Great team! Went at night just before closing with a dislocated little finger. The whole team was very kind and compassionate. The doctor (I so wish I could remember his name) and the whole team took excellent care of me. Got it back in place with almost no pain. Knee replacement surgery was performed by Dr. Hoffman on the day of surgery he NEVER came in before the operation to talk to the patient. He did come in the night he was in the hospital after surgery. We were sent home with written help/instructions. A few days after surgery we started to have some questions about the lower leg called the center MANY options of them getting paid, but not one for after care issues, the only option available was talk to the Dr. and he would be back with you with in 1 to 3 days later. We ended up call the Ambulance as the issues with the lower part of the leg were not going to be answered by Chatam Orthopaedic Associates. AVOID THIS group of Specialists!!!!! read more

I had a wonderful experience last year with Dr. Levit and hand surgery. BUT I'm now trying to get help with back problems, and that section of the practice isn't working out at all. I was assigned a doctor, but I didn't get to see him before he ordered a procedure. I had a difficult time getting someone to explain what this procedure entailed. And when my insurance denied the procedure, the practice canceled it -- but didn't bother notifying me that they had. When I found out I couldn't have that procedure I asked for and was given an appointment to discuss options. I went to the appointment today -- and was told I didn't have an appointment, today or any day. I've contacted my primary care to request a referral to a different orthopedic practice. read more

Stuck me with a 4000.00 bill that my insurance won"t cover because Anesthesia group that they use is not in my group so is not covered!! Don't waste your time trying to make an appointment or speak with someone. I had surgery in March. 4 days after the surgery I needed different pain meds . I called and left 4 messages no one ever called me back. It is now July , I have been trying for 5 days to make an appointment, left a message each day I called. It's now Friday I still don't have an appointment. Bad office management! read more

I have been a patient here since July. In that time I have experienced nothing but gross incompetence. When you call to make an appointment, plan to wait a good month or two at a minimum. Also plan to wait about that same amount of time between follow up appointments. They are an extremely conservative practice meaning they are going to start you with physical therapy. Even when your physical therapist cancels the rest of your appointments because they see you getting worse, this puts no sense of urgency on the doctors. They will prescribe you a cocktail of medications, no narcotics or actual pain meds, mostly anti inflammatory and steroid meds. Then when you do finally get in again, they will send you for an MRI. Meanwhile in this time you still haven't seen a doctor. You've seen a crusty old PA (Ray 'Chip' Wallace) who doesn't really seem to care what you have to say, and ignores most of what you say, and doesn't really do anything to help. He simply follows the flow chart they have. After your MRI you will finally get to have a 10 minute appointment with the actual doctor, Sofianos, who will tell you most of what the MRI shows is 'clinically insignificant' even though you've been in increasing amounts of pain since being injured. They will then send you to their pain management doctor, Dr. Chai. You will get an appointment with him and when you show up to this appointment, he doesn't. You drive all the way from Savannah to Springfield, take the day off work without pay, and he doesn't show up. The girl who does his scheduling, Tonita, doesn't answer the phone or return calls or emails in a timely manner. I am highly dissatisfied in the level of care that is not being provided here. It's upsetting because I came to this practice because I was told they were the best in the area. If this is the best in the area, I may want to look out of area. It has been 3 months since my injury, and my pain has increased significantly. They have done absolutely nothing to try to improve it. Having only one pain doctor is unacceptable because when he doesn't feel like showing up, you're out of luck. He had 3 patients in the waiting room and all 3 of us had to be told he didn't feel like coming in today. Update 10/19/19- I was able to get my injection rescheduled. I was awaiting my second injection scheduled for 10/21/19 when I get a voicemail telling me that that appointment as well as my follow up has been cancelled due to being discharged from the practice. I am still in a lot of pain and my injury is still the same as it was. I was given no heads up or anything that this was happening. I was also given no reason for this discharge. This is highly unprofessional and unacceptable. Update 2- it appears I was discharged because this practice is unable to take negative criticism. Instead of addressing these issues and working to fix them, they simply discharge me. Not a problem. Doctors are dime a dozen in this area. Mr finding a new one won't be hard. read more

And That was my nightmare cause I got lied on and discharge. My primary care physician sent in a referral (I have tears in the hip cartilage). No response. I called and left several messages. No response. I sent emails. No response. Finally, got hold of someone in office. They told me that they didn't provide care for my issue, so they ignored the messages. Dr. Mark Jenkins did my total knee replacement in late June. Went very well. Great support and follow up. Also used their rehab facility. Top notch - completed PT in 8 weeks. Ask for Colleen, she's encouraging and effective. Highly recommend both parts of the practice. read more

Called to get information about pain management and they said their physician only gives injections and would not manage existing medications. Should be zero stars I have been a patient of Dr Chai for many years and like the anonymous person who left a review stating they were dropped because of a failed drug test the same thing happened to me today!! They called after I had taken the test months earlier telling me that Dr Chai would not see me because they found Tramadol in my system. I've taken Tramadol in the past and it didn't phase my pain so I've been on Hydrocodone for 10+ years because it works and being very careful with it. I have only had a small increase in 10 years choosing instead to see my Acupuncturist or Neuro Muscular Massage Therapist when the pain gets worse. I requested them to let me talk with him but his male nurse would have nothing to do with that and told me they would just send my files in the mail. After all these years, all the money I've spent on those injections that didn't work and the expense of the visits and labs and being very careful with my medications .....what I have left now is feeling like I'm a drug addict or something! I just finished up 4 years of off and on chemo treatments, 20 cancer surgeries in 4 years and just had my gallbladder removed. I never asked for pain meds from those docs and none were written....they all know I see Chai. I made due with what I already had. I will not have my reputation frowned upon by an untruth!! read more

Went there for a couple of years, and never before have I witnessed a more unorganized and disrespectful bunch of so called health care professionals. All they cared about is "getting paid"! Didn't help my condition one bit! I was forced to go elsewhere for spine injections as they just couldn't seem to get their act together & get insurance approval for nearly two months, yet the other organization got approval within one day! Same with medications. My current doctor has gotten meds approved within one day, where Chatham Orthopedic took weeks... I am so glad to be in the hands of another doctor and away from these greedy incompetents! read more

Beware! I'm a new patient of Dr. Spellman and old patient of Dr. Chai. At my first visit with Dr. Spellman I was treated as if I was a drug addict or something because I asked for pain medication for severely damage spine. He flat out told me no and if pain meds is what I was after I'm at the wrong clinic. He then goes on to say I would have to do an MRI before I can do anything. 2-3 weeks later I get a call to schedule the MRI and a week after that a follow up appoint to discuss the results and treatment plan. On my second visit Dr. Spellman was a no show. I was seen by a nurse who in my opinion didn't really understand or convey to me the results of the MRI. I was so lost, confused and very disappointed. I've literally been in the worse kind of pain for months now with NO relief and no way ahead. Long story short this was a complete waste of my time and insurance benefits. Was seen by physical therapist Timothy, who spent 45 minutes with me, did an "assessment," looked possible exercises up on google online while I sat there, and charged $541. Complete robbery. This was while other PT's stood around outside of my exam room, laughing and joking around about one of the patients there. Unprofessional, rude, and an overall terrible experience. The sign in procedure is lengthy and complicated on a touch screen. It asks the same stupid questions with each visits. I watched elderly persons with limited computer skills taking 20 to 30 mins trying to sign in. My last visit I waited 1 hour and 8 minutes to be called in after signing in. I asked at the desk two times and was told the doctor was busy. Very poor scheduling. If it wasn't for the fact that Dr. Hoffman is pleasant, takes his time with my concerns and answers all questions, I would never go back. read more

Saw Dr. Jenkins. He did not address the issue that I went there for and tried to fob me off with medicine that I really don't want to take and when I asked him about my actual problem he started talking about something completely different and just belittled my hip pain which was the reason i was there. Also I heard him talking to the medical student who was following him, he told the student that most insurance wont pay for surgery until the patient has tried other therapy. All that this place cares about is insurance. This is my second experience with this clinic. Last time I had surgery on my knee which was very successful although I didn't meet the surgeon until moments before my surgery although my insurance had been billed for visits with the Dr but I was actually seeing his PA. His own office told me that per my insurance I had to see the Dr. not a PA. The physio department is a joke, they tend to leave you just waiting whilst they laugh and joke between themselves. The doctors are great, but the back office staff will make you insane. Getting them to submit anything correctly - especially the first time - is impossible. Of 30 insurance submissions, 14 were kicked back because the improper code was use or insufficient information was received. Getting them to submit requests for physical therapy in a timely manner is a problem. Heaven help you if you need for them to submit paperwork in support of a disability. They are slow to submit it and leave out vital information regarding your care and prognosis. Managers ignore emails and calls when there are problems and will cancel surgery at the last minute if you stand up to them. Go elsewhere. read more

made an appt since I had my knee replaced by Dr. Hoffman, one of the Drs on the staff. many years ago and he did a good job I have a shoulder problem. Made an appt with Dr. Noonberg who is a specialist in shoulder issues. Did the pre-visit computer sign in. Then showed up 15 minutes before my appt to finish the details. Waited 45 minutes after showing up to see him. No response to my inquiry about when I would see a Dr. When I said I was leaving the front desk offered to look into a nurse which I know means I will be called and sent to an exam room to wait some more. There were two other people in the waiting room. I left. Don't go here if you want to see a doctor. If I was late by 20 minutes they would cancel. Not a good place now. read more

While the doctors may have a strong ability to diagnose a variety of issues, (verdict is still out on that for me), the organization of the practice, wait times, and interaction between the nurses and patients are abysmal and the whole experience has been frustrating. In 2 months I've left over half a dozen messages for nurses, none of which were returned. which I think is pretty lousy. I suspect that the lack of response is due to being overbooked and having too many patients per P.A./Nurse. That could also be the reason I've never been called into an appointment on time; usually they run 30+ minutes behind and make you wait another 30 once you've reached the exam room. Maybe I should consider myself fortunate because I've sat with other patients in the waiting room who have been delayed over 90 minutes. This practice is more a factory than an office. If you aren't prepared to be your own advocate and do a lot of your own research and follow up, select a different provider. read more
