Let me preface by saying I'm not a huge fan of regular Chatime. I think their drink selection is not extensive enough and although their drinks taste fine, I usually opt to go to other places for my bubble tea. I did not know Chatime has an innovation bar. I know certain chains (for instance, Tim Hortons) have fancier versions of their staple store where they offer a more creative menu, but I did not know Chatime had the same deal, so I was very excited. Walking in, it already feels more upscale than a regular Chatime. They have a display of macarons and other desserts. The store looks clean and well-maintained. There is a counter to put your drink on but there's not really a sitting area. I was excited to get my drink. There was a matcha honey drink that I wanted to try that I forgot the name of, but they didn't have it in stock. Luckily, the menu was so extensive that there were multiple things I wanted to try. I ended up ordering the Matcha Ube Tea instead. They made my drink fairly quickly. I didn't get to drink my tea until I got home because I got a defective straw and didn't notice until I was on the subway, so I couldn't poke it into my drink. Do note that their straws are made of flimsy paper material that isn't very durable. I would advise drinking at the store so if you get a defective straw, you can get a replacement. This store doesn't have any seating; however, there's a high-top table facing the corridor and stands of various heights along the wall. I'm guessing it's for taking photos. I don't know if it was because I went around lunchtime, but the display case for desserts was quite sparse and empty-looking. There were two employees working when I was there. One was the cashier, and the other was making the drinks. The cashier might have been new since she constantly had to interrupt her coworker making the drinks to ask questions. This, coupled with the customers ahead of me taking a really long time to order four drinks, made this the longest I've ever had to wait to order at a bubble tea shop before. It took at least ten minutes. I almost ordered the Blue Sakura, since it looked so nice on the menu. I'm really glad that I didn't, since the reviews for it aren't good at all. One of the first (if not the first, I don't quite remember) Innovation Bars from Chatime! They always have great new flavours and is very unique from their regular Chatime locations. My favourite is the Black Onyx. Their honey golden pearls (even though I'm not usually a fan of tapioca) are actually very tasty (and sweet), so if you get this topping, I recommend lowering the sugar level of your actual tea. The staff are always super friendly, efficient, and helpful. They also have some pretty funny nametags, so be on the lookout for that for a nice laugh. Beware that this location typically has a lineup, so be prepared to wait! Also, the inside of this location is always very hot for some reason - hotter than the rest of the mall. I really enjoyed my milk tea here! I ordered the Brown Sugar Milk Tea with Creme Brûlée. This was such a flavorful and rich drink and perfect during a warm afternoon. The ingredients were all fresh and tasted great. I was able to specify the sweetness (at 50%) and it was perfect. The tapioca pearls were also good and had perfect texture. This was sweet and creamy and basically dessert. Many other spots offer something similar, but not all have the same quality - thankfully, this spot delivers. read more

I was excited to find that Yorkdale had opened up a Chatime, especially an Innovation Bar since this was my first time visiting one! I didn't really have high expectations per say, but I did have a relative standard since I'm a frequent Chatime customer. Firstly, was slightly disappointed that Innovation Bars do not carry the TOTM (tea of the month) special. Anyways, I decided to try something "special"/would not normally get at a regular Chatime. Ended up opting for the Black Onyx ($6.50 plus tax) and ordered it as a tea latte, with brown sugar tapioca (an additional 75 cents, said to be a "premium topping"). This probably would have tasted better with milk tea because this tea latte was so bland. Not "aromatic and/or flavorful" as described. The brown sugar tapioca was also underwhelming since these lacked flavor and was not as QQ as hoped. All in all, definitely not worth the $8 I spent. I would be much happier with a regular bubble tea from their regular shops. The staff members of were very informative and knew their menu and offerings well. I came here on a Saturday afternoon. I was really excited for it since I like Chatime but I was SUPER disappointed. I got the Blue Sakura because it looked pretty and that's the last time I get something off its looks. It literally tasted like water. If you had given this to me blindfolded, I would have thought it was water. The tapioca was mediocre. You can only choose brown sugar or honey tapioca and I got brown sugar. It did not taste like brown sugar at all and they were smaller than normal tapioca. Honestly it was pretty bland, just like the drink. My husband got the pineapple coconut glow and the combination was pretty gross. Anyways, serves us right for getting drinks based on aesthetic. The staff were kind of rude. I get that Yorkdale may cater to a certain wealth but I didn't expect Chatime to be snooty. The Chatime is close to the subway entrance so its kind of hard to find if you don't know where to look. Soya milk hojicha latte with ice and boba, no sugar was ok. The hojicha used in Canada does not have that deep, grassy/woodsy taste that you find in Japan and Taiwan, which I miss so much! Date: May 19, 2019 Time: 6:50pm The reason I decided to write this review was because the service I received today made me felt unfairly treated as a customer. The line was long as always and it's finally my turn to order. When I came up and about to order my drink, apparently a male staff X recognized the customer behind me was his friend so the staff told his friend to skip my turn and took his order first. I did address this issue directly to that staff on the spot and all I got was a 'I'm sorry' with an arrogant tone. From a view as a customer, staffs should treat every single customer equally whether or not he/ she is your friend. This is a very unprofessional practice and may make other customers feel uncomfortable given that we are also waiting in the line. It's clean and tidy, but the location within Yorkdale Mall isn't optimal. It's sort of tucked away on the outskirts. But my biggest issue here, is that all the drinks seemed more expensive than the regular Chatime stores. Maybe others are aware of this, but this was news to me. A lot of the flavors and selections seem common, so I'm not sure why you would willingly be paying more just because of maybe the location attend? Not sure. I honestly think that this place is 70% hype, 30% innovation. It was unbearably humid in there when I went (a Friday evening) and it just took so long to order and receive my drink. A bunch of us got the matcha latte as that was the special of the day and it was probably one of the worst matcha lattes I've ever had. There was barely any matcha flavour it in and the worst part was that it wasn't even creamy despite all the milk in it. It was probably 50% ice and tasted like water with a tiny bit of matcha powder. Decent place for bubble tea in Yorkdale especially since the mall is pretty limited with choices. Drinks come in a unique variety of flavours, most of which are quite aesthetically pleasing! Quality wise, most of them taste slightly watered down but still hold flavour. Tapioca is amazing - perfectly chewy and not too soft or hard (the golden tapioca is a bit on the sweeter side compared to the crystal). Price is pretty expensive at $8+ for one drink + topping, but I personally wouldn't mind spending it once in a while! read more

Went to Yorkdale specifically to try the Thai iced tea at the innovation bar, but they didn't have it. That's not the reason why I'm giving them 1 star though. It was a combination of reasons. First, it took them exactly 28 minutes from the time I ordered until I got my drinks. Idk if it was because they were understaffed or their employees were undertrained..there were two employees making drinks on a busy Saturday. I was watching them the entire time I was waiting for my drinks and they did seem a lot slower compared to the employees at other chatime locations. The place was small and humid, I just wanted to get my drinks and get out of there ASAP. Second, I felt like the employees (especially the person calling out numbers for orders that were ready) did not provide even a standard level of customer service. Again, I was watching the employees the entire time I was waiting for my drinks and never once did the employees apologize for the wait to any of the customers. Also, an employee usually helps the customer bag their drinks at other locations but here they just give a bag to you (not a big deal, just an observation). Last, I can't speak for all the innovation drinks but I feel like they are overpriced and overrated. I got the Ceylon milk tea and lychee honey jelly with green tea and they were nothing special. I got sago with the Ceylon milk tea because they don't typically have that topping at their regular locations, but it was super clumpy and gross. All in all, it was not a good experience and I would not go back again to try their other drinks. Note: you can't redeem chatime reward points for any of the innovation drinks! read more

Giving this place a 2/5 because I've had better drinks and service. Had high expectations for this location as everyone was hyping it up but my experience was pretty disappointing. I think I'd rather go to the regular Chatime locations that I know will be bomb. The drinks that we wanted to try were sold out so we got the Blue Coconut instead; one with sago, and one without. They gave it out with sago all over the cup which got my hands sticky. They should pay more attention to the drinks as they give it out and clean it if necessary. If you like the Chatime milk tea, you're going to love the Black Onyx. My new favorite drink! It's similar to the chatime milk tea but the way they create the tea is more intense. It has a bit of a vanilla flavor to it and can be create as a milk tea, latte or a teapresso. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. So it's great to ask them for recommendations because this isn't your typical Chatime. The menu is quite different. They don't have Taro and many of the regular drinks you can find at Chatime. But instead they have many new types of drinks like the mango sago! Located along the strip to the subway, it's a great location to drop by if you're taking the subway. You know when their tapioca is fresh because you can smell it from the bridge going between the subway and mall! Prices are a bit steep for Chatime but I guess it rly lies in the "specialness" of the drinks. The inside is decorated fancier than your typical chatime and isn't meant for sitting down with friends at all. More like a grab to go service. I really enjoyed the amber kandy milk tea. It was really strong, just the way I like my milk tea. I would definitely recommend getting less sugar and less ice (I personally find chatime drinks pretty sweet normally). I think I'd come back again for the amber kandy milk tea because I'm rly a fan of it but only because I don't go to Yorkdale often and it's more of a treat yourself time read more

I came in knowing the price would be very high, due to the claimed higher quality of the special drinks, as well as additional charges for the special toppings ($0.75 instead of the standard $0.50), and also increased sizes (only comes in size L). The two drinks came to a total of $17- a high price for bubble tea. I ordered the Black Onyx with Matcha Pudding (a skeptical choice) and Blue Coconut with Honey Jelly. Upon my first sip of the Black Onyx milk tea, I was sold. I also let my parents and siblings try some (they are hard critics-- especially my parents who don't understand the bubble tea hype for such high prices). My siblings loved the drink, and my parents too were very very impressed with the very light coffee taste (tbh I didn't even notice it until after they mentioned it) of the Black Onyx milk tea. The Blue Coconut with Honey Jelly was not as good. It claims to be a Coconut water drink with Butterfly Pea, but just tasted like coconut water. The Honey Jelly has a very strong taste of honey (especially in contrast to the light taste of the coconut water) Black Onyx Milk Tea with Matcha Pudding: 4.5/5 Would greatly recommend this pairing! (-0.5 because the pudding tastes a little powdery near the end) Blue Coconut with Honey Jelly: 2/5 Was overall a very light, tasteless drink. As a pairing, Honey Jelly is too strong a taste for the coconut water. However, I am not sure I would try they Honey Jelly again. Came here yesterday on a busy sunday afternoon and I must say, I'm impressed. Location [5/5] Starting off with the location, they are located in the pathway to the TTC. Very smart of them since there is a lot of foot traffic there. Maybe wouldn't attract some mall goers that are not familiar with chatime and if they don't take TTC/GO since they wouldn't really walk by it otherwise. The shop itself is quite small but beautifully designed. Unlike other locations, there's really no sit downs. Just a small bar table that fits 3-4 people. So it really is just a grab and go. Service [5/5] The ordering process did not take long like most new chatimes. The cashier knew what he was doing which I really appreciated. He even asked if I had my points card, otherwise I would've forgotten. I decided to order the Thai Milk Tea. I asked the cashier if it was on the sweeter side but since he never tried it before he had helped me ask a colleague of his for recommendation. Which again, I really appreciated him going up and beyond to make sure I get the right sugar amount on my drink cause some other locations would just tell me they don't know and leave it up to me to guess. They were only taking cash for the time being but made sure to shout that out so people in line knew. The drink was prepared in a timely manner for a new shop compared to other new chatime locations that I've been to before. Drink [4/5] We got the thai milk tea which only came in 1 size and we added grass jelly. I think the drink come to $8 and something change. Which I thought was very pricey. The drink was good, but not worth the price. They also have their normal items but I wanted to try something that only the yorkdale location had. Overall, I'm a fan of this new location and the specialty drinks gives it a new touch. I will come back to try some of the other flavours. Featuring drinks and toppings exclusive to this location, there are about 5 different teas (including jasmine, ceylon, London Fog), matcha lattes, and fruit mixes (ie. mango sago). In addition to the usual pearls and jellies, you'll also find sago, honey jelly, and matcha jelly. I tried the Black Onyx mixed with milk, honey jelly and sago (you can have it hot or iced!). The tea itself didn't taste particularly unique to me, but the honey jelly was pretty different with a soft jelly texture and faint honey taste. But this place is trying to innovate (it's in the name). It should be judged with this in mind. Not every drink is going to be a winner, but some of them will be. Also some of the benefits over a normal Chatime are some exclusive flavours, substitutions, and toppings. At the end of the day I like that Chatime has a place to try new things. The most disappointing chatime experience. I got the matcha latte with matcha pudding. Nothing special. Light matcha flavour in the pudding. My boyfriend got the dirty matcha latte which is matcha with a shot of espresso. I watched the lady hand the guy preparing our drinks literally a whole cup filled with milk (to the top) and asked if it's "TOO MUCH MILK." YES it IS too much milk!! And he said NO! He had no room whatsoever to pour the matcha. You can see that he prepared enough for the drink, but only used a teaspoon of it. As bad as that was, he also forgot to put the shot of espresso too. And when the lady passed the shot to him to pour in, he had no idea which drink it was even for. He almost poured it in the wrong drink. The lady took over, and the drink is clearly overflowing because of the ridiculous amount of milk there is in the cup, and of COURSE she pours some of the drink out in the sink. Chatime has been very successful over the past several years in locking down and opening a store in almost all parts of the GTA. It's definitely one of the biggest bubble tea chains in Toronto. Anywhere you go you will probably see one just like a Timmies. Having witnessed their success story and they having gradually started to open up in malls more now. Hillcrest and now Yorkdale, you know Chatime makes a ton of money from there business. This particular Chatime Innovation Bar is slightly different from the other Chatime shops you may see everywhere. Though they have some of their signature drinks they still keep on there menu but they are now shifting towards getting into more tea lattes, lattes and espressos. I tried their special black onyx latte, and I felt it lacked alot of flavor and was quite watered down. It had tasted like diluted milk which and just chilled. I should of probably had just gotten the milk tea instead but it did not taste anything like what their description of the drink was. I can see that they are trying to tap into the Latte's, espresso market and compete with perhaps Starbucks, and other coffee shops within the mall but the taste of just having a regular non fusion latte is much better than a latte with a bubble tea spin on it. I unfortunately did not like the drink at all and for the price it was way too expensive. I wouldn't go to Chatime to get a latte. I find they are just not good in that field of expertise when it comes to making those types of beverages. There signature drinks are still great and I would continue to get those instead. read more

came here for the first day of opening ! it is very aesthetically decorated and compared to other chatime locations it looks more modern. there was a limited menu and mostly had new innovation drinks and few classics like the milk tea and roasted milk tea. there are cool special toppings like sago and matcha pudding. there are only large sizes here and prices are higher than the average chatime even there classics are about $1 more. I ordered the mixed berry aloe green tea and it was served in a good quality plastic cup. The device is great and a girl who worked there told me a description on the drink and whether or not regular sugar would be too sweet for me. it was quickly made even with the line which is great :) I got less ice and regular sugar and it was perfect sweetness. typically I get half sugar for the green teas. the drink had berries in it and was refreshing ! I was very excited to visit the chatime innovation bar! As a chatime fan, its nice to visit a location with some unique drinks compared to other locations. The team here is quick and organized, and can handle a large line very quickly. I tried the Black Onyx drink and it was great! Went here to check out the bubble tea they have. The place is fairly busy, but most of the people were waiting for their drink despite having five people behind the counter. The drinks are a bit more expensive than most bubble tea places, but the drinks themselves look really amazing. The music was a bit loud, it felt like ordering drinks in a club. It was hard to ask about the menu options and even harder to hear what they responded with. In the end we settled on a maple milk tea, which was inordinately sweet and for some reason had ice cubes. They no longer have contactless payment. You have to physically touch multiple buttons to pay, which makes it unnecessarily inconvenient when all you should need to do is tap the card. Some of the drinks (especially if you get the large size) can be on the pricier size ($7-ish), the drinks worth getting would have to be the bottled drinks in my opinion (my favourite is Purple Reign) because you can keep the glass bottle. But other than that, wait for their special drinks (like Rose Thai Milk Tea this past summer). read more
