While on vacation we always try to book a walking ghost tour. They are generally a great source for local history. Jason was a fantastic guide. He has a great personality for this job. He was a fount of information and ghost stories. Also worth noting, smart business with using a microphone. We've been on tours that were difficult to hear the guide. I must say with all that is going on in our country right now it was a breath of fresh air. We had such a great time on this tour. I'm not much into the whole "Ghost" thing but all the facts about the architecture is what keeps me going back for more. The tour guide was amazing read more

We visited for a birthday weekend and ended up completing both tours offered by Chattanooga Ghost Tours! Jessica was our historical city walk tour guide, where we learned about Downtown Chattanooga and the ghosts that haunt local establishments. Due to COVID we could not go in some of the buildings, but Jessica did such a great job that we didn't mind a bit! On Saturday night, Donnie was our ghost hunt guide across the campus of Tennessee University and into the local cemetery. We utilized different ghost hunting equipment and even got to hold them and use them ourselves!! The most talkative ghost for me was Rabbit. He communicated using the spirit box and the dousing rods. My ghost experience was, at the time Rabbit was saying weird words like "remind" and "calm down" things that didn't quite make sense. After finishing the session and walking back to our cars, I took a looked at my phone to find TWELVE unread notifications sent to me from one my students about missing work and inputting grades in the gradebook...they had messaged me via an app...called Remind. So awesome. My heart still beats a little faster even thinking about it. read more

Very nice tour through Chattanooga. Fairly historical with some interesting stories. Not as scary as some previous ghost tours I've done ones; however, the parking garage location was very creepy. They have numerous pictures of the spots you will visit that show previous "sightings" and you can tell they have a lot of pride in them. They highly encourage taking pictures and even teach you how to take them for the purpose of "ghost hunting" (no flash, multiple clicks per picture). There were a few stops that could've been better; for example we visited a theater that was supposed to be haunted but went at a time when 300+ people were exiting the theater from a previous show. We didn't get to go inside and it was a bit awkward watching each person watch us on the tour. I believe a little bit of planning (looking up show times) by the company could've avoided this issue. Overall, a good time and definitely recommend if you are looking for something different to do in Chattanooga. read more

I was pleasantly surprised to learn about the famous people and landmarks. We stopped at the Read Hotel which I booked a room that day. I learned about room 311. Later, I requested to switch rooms but someone was checking in the next day. I asked to at least take photos and received permission. I took photos and used my pendulum to check the energy of the 3rd floor and 311 room. It was swinging wildly in circles. That means a lot of activity was occurring. I tested the 4th floor, the pendulum would not move at all. read more

I want to give 2 stars, but husband says no. Half of our party dropped out mid way. This was a rather boring walk around the city. I really wanted it to be good! I tried to get into it, and just couldn't. 90% of our time was spent looking in a parking lot or somewhere that no longer held the house. I suggest getting a bus, and visiting the cemetery or other similarly haunted places. The walking aspect definitely limited the places you could visit. The walk back to the car at midnight was the scariest part. read more

We went on the ghost hunt tonight with Col. Jack Staples as our guide. Judy and I were the entire group. We went through part of the UT Chattanooga Campus and the Confederate Cemetery that is just to the north. What an awesome experience. All of the equipment went off at different times through the tour and spirits were speaking to us through the electronic equipment. TOTALLY AMAZING!! Cant wait until our next visit to do it again. Bring bug spray and flashlights. Don't miss this. You will have a great time! Ask for Col. Jack Staples! My husband and I took the Ghost Hunt tour with Donnie this weekend. He was very knowledgeable, outgoing and willing to spend extra time with the group because we were getting some great communications. I wish we were able to go into places, but overall, it was a great tour. The ghost hunt focuses more on using equipment versus the history of Chatt so if you are looking for history, take their Murder + Mayhem tour. read more

My mom was visiting from CA so we decided to do this Ghost Tour and it was so awesome! Even though we couldn't go in any of the buildings (including the tour building) our tour guide Jessica kept it interesting. She was funny, informational, and you can just tell overall that she loves the city and the history of it and she's passionate about her job. The tour itself was a great walk and I learned a lot about the city of Chattanooga as well as some spooky ghost stories. I highly recommend this ghost tour. You do not get to go inside any buildings. The whole tour is them showing you pics from their phone and telling stories. The first stop was a parking garage that was even fenced off that you could not go in. Definitely NOT worth the money. This should have been noted on their website. read more

I really love this tour. I encourage everyone to try one out. The great stories and rich history of Chattanooga make it well worth your time. Seeing things at eye level while walking around is great. Things that you may not have noticed by driving around. The buildings with the half windows, underground Chattanooga, the Hunter Museum. I tell everyone to take the tour. read more

No, just no. Don't waste your time or money. We've taken ghost tours in many southern cities and this company just stinks. Of course we did not expect it to be on the same level as a New Orleans or Savannah ghost tour but we also didn't expect it to be ridiculous which it is. We gave them the benefit of the doubt and took a second tour...mistake. That tour guide seemed tired and bored but that was an improvement over the first guide who was a self proclaimed ghost magnet (insert eye roll here) Just a little tip from experience, if your tour guide shows up in a velvet cape and 10 thousand crystals around their neck just save your money and go home. If you want a good ghost tour in south east TN take the drive to Gatlinburg and take one of their many tours they are excellent. read more

My husband and I have been on many ghost tours. Every city we visit has them. So we have high expectations because of the experiences we have had. All I can say is it was "just ok". The biggest problem is the amount of walking involved and not enough story telling to really keep it from getting mundane. There has to be more history then what was shared in the time we were there? Our tour guide was fine, but we left feeling like it was "much ado about nothing". read more

The strength of this tour was defiantly in the story telling. The guide ( I think her name was Hope) did a great job bringing the tales of old Chattanooga to life. However, the tour did have some drawbacks. Most of the stories were told outside (or at a great distance) from the actual locations. The site alleged to have the most activity was a parking lot that was completely fenced off and two of the locations mentioned had since been turned into luxury condos and a Chili's parking lot. The locations simply weren't very creepy and access was limited to non existent. Overall, I felt it was a notch below the Shanghai Tours in Portland (Oregon) and the Ghost Tour in St. Augustine (Florida), but the tour does features some great stories and good history. There's worse ways to spend $14 and if your a fan of Ghost Tours there is defiantly aspects you'll enjoy. read more

My husband and I were in Chattanooga for a weekend getaway. I am a lover of all ghost stories and history and I always like to do a ghost tour if possible while visiting a new town. My partner and I decided to do a ghost tour while we were in town. We had a blast on the tour and our guide Hope was beyond wonderful and really knowledgable of the area and the history behind each and every spot where we stopped. I actually did some research on the area before we went on the tour and a lot of the stories I found were actually told along the tour. Overall it's a great learning experience especially with the amount of history that we were taught during the tour. I would defiantly recommend this you won't be disappointed if you have an open mind and actually believe in the paranormal. We will defiantly be back! read more

Meet the Business Owner: Amy P.

Amy Petulla practiced law for 20 years before retiring to start the ghost tour. Since then, she has literally written the book on ghosts in Chattanooga, Haunted Chattanooga by History Press, and also authored The Corpsewood Manor Murders in North Georgia, which has been featured on nation-wide podcast Sword and Scale among many others, as well as mentioned in March 2020 on My Favorite Murder, 1 of the top ten podcasts around.

The price and value of this adventure is excellent and that the facilities are attached to a wonderful campground is amazing also. Tip: there is an onsite washer and dryer so you can easily wash your clothes after going through the spelunking and yes you will get dirty. Beautiful Sunset Cruise, But Inconsistent Hours at the Gift Shop…read more We had a lovely time aboard the Southern Belle for their Sunset Cruise. When we boarded, we made our way to the middle deck, front of the boat--and found the perfect little spot with a private table and chairs. It felt like our own peaceful corner of the river. No crowd, just a quiet, relaxing ride with amazing views of the Chattanooga skyline and surrounding scenery as the sun set. Absolutely gorgeous. After docking, we decided to eat at the restaurant above the gift shop. It was a great way to end the evening--the food was tasty, and the river views from the deck made it even better. We asked the staff what time the gift shop closed and were told 9:00 PM, so we waited until after dinner to pick up souvenirs. Unfortunately, by the time we finished eating (maybe 10 minutes later), the shop had already closed. Kind of a bummer. Since then, we've tried to return twice while driving through Chattanooga--hoping to grab some mementos--but no one answers the phone, and the gift shop hasn't been open either time. Their posted hours on both the website and Google are clearly off, which has made it pretty frustrating. All in all, we loved the cruise and highly recommend it, especially if you can snag a quiet spot on the deck. Just don't count on the gift shop being open--even if you're told otherwise. Buy your souvenirs before dinner just to be safe!

The 6 hour private tour was very relaxing and not spoiled by a spot of rain when we started out. We stayed nice and dry inside the boat's cabin and ventured back out as soon as skies cleared. If we return to Chattanooga, we would like to see the companion trip heading the opposite direction down to the gorge.

I booked the next available appointment, which was about an hour or so away, but that left me plenty of time to take in views from the observation decks. There is also a restaurant in the castle as well as zip lining, if you want additional things to do while you wait for your guided tour to begin. (I recommend getting your tickets online if you come in a group, especially during the summer months and on weekends.) Parking is free and there are numerous places to park. The experience is really eye-opening and the video at the beginning tells the story of the cave formation and why it was named Ruby Falls. Very interesting! The walk takes about 60-70 minutes back and forth. You will see amazing stalagmites and stalactites along the way. Distinct lighting is added to the cave to enhance your experience. Our guide was very knowledgeable and explained everything in detail. It does get cool down in the caves (around 60 degrees) and I was glad I took a light jacket once I got about halfway through the process. The waterfall and the lighting at the end were something to see! Minor issues-they packed about 40-50 people in our tour group. A group leaves every 10 minutes or so. As such, you have to hug up against a wall NUMEROUS times as previous groups are coming back from the waterfall experience. You have to make room to let them pass. The wait for the elevator to take you back up to the top is also a tedious wait. This could be due to the summer crowds, so plan accordingly. If you are claustrophobic, this may not be the experience for you.

We've done various cave type tours around the US on our travels and this would not be one I would return to. It's such a cool waterfall and cave but completely ruined by management trying to cram as many people in as possible to make more money. We had about 40-50 people in our group and the entire time you are expected to stop and go to one side to let other groups of 40-50 people go by. With this many people in the narrow walkway, you can expect it to smell like sweat and any other odors of people near/passing by you. They also kick you out of the waterfall area within a few minutes because you are then holding up other tours. The staff and tour guides throughout our experience were really pleasant and the waterfall was beautiful. We were just shocked that they allow group sizes that big and in 10 minute intervals each. It truly ruined the experience for us and management should be ashamed as there are hundreds of similar reviews stating the same concerns.

You'd never expect an under the radar city like Chattanooga to have so many wonderful landmark attractions like Ruby Falls, Rock City Gardens and now here at the Incline Railway, but Chattanooga is a worthwhile stop for any adventurer's journey. It's $22 roundtrip to ride 1450 feet at an incline grade of up to 72% to and from the summit of Lookout Mountain. It's about a 10 minute journey in total for riders to enjoy forest surrounding views while trekking up inside a customized railway car. Once up at the Summit Station high atop Chattanooga, there are two lookout observation points to check out. The first one is up a flight of stairs right in front of the train car exit area. Here you can admire Chattanooga's valley floor looking down below with the train tracks being the centerpiece focal point. Next, up two flights of stairs is an Upper Observation Platform. This section has more room for visitors to walk around and take family photos while breathing in the fresh air from 2400 feet high. It's a similar vantage point to the first observation deck, but still, nice to take in perspectives from all angles. There's a small gift store and cafe/fudge shop to purchase snacks and keepsakes. If interested, you can learn history about the Incline railway walking through the Centennial Exhibits located off to the left hand side of the Summit Station. Tourists can take as much time as they'd like enjoying the sceneries atop Chattanooga. Most folks seemed to hang out for about 45 minutes - 1 hour before departing back down Lookout Mountain. Extra notes... - To control crowds, train departures leave every 30 minutes. But, if you purchased a ticket for a 10am ride and the railway car is full, you'll be forced to wait in line for the next departure, not necessarily at 10:30am, but more like 10:20am given the 10 minute rides each way to and from the summit. My suggestion would be to get in line 15 minutes early prior to a 10am departure. The specific 30 minute intervals are used more as a guide to help to spread out the crowds from arriving all at once and then creating a bottleneck situation. - Incline Railway hours are 9am - 6pm/7pm daily. The railway is located in downtown Chattanooga. You can find limited parking on the side streets for free, but there's also a large parking lot for visitors to leave their cars. It is pay by the hour. It'll cost a few dollars extra ($3 - $5) for parking. - The railway car and ride to the summit is not scary. For those with a fear of heights, you should not be deterred. In the end, Lookout Mountain Incline Railway is a pretty worthwhile activity that should not be missed for visitors coming to Chattanooga.

It's a great ride to introduce friends to Chattanooga and to be able to look out and see the city and surrounding state. Make sure your friends don't have issues with height before you go. I had two friends, who were not prepared for how sharp incline is. For some reason, they thought we would be on flatland once we got to the top, but the railroad is inclined the entire top stop. We enjoy looking out at the surrounding states and then going down to the bottom floor to look at how the rail system works. Don't forget to stop in the gift shop as they had some of the best shortbread cookies. I've been two other times and these were a new item. I'll definitely return if I have friends in town visiting!

We checked in in the middle of the night, so we couldn't see much. We knew we had to cross a new bridge and when we did we could make the outline of the cabin, which we already knew was on the smaller size. When we walked in and soaked the place up it seems so much larger inside. The space was so efficiently built that there was a living room, full kitchen and the sleeping area upstairs. By knows means is it Ginormous though. We slept great and the next morning we were treated to the view of horses, sheep, chicken and goats in the pasture back beyond the bridge and field we came in from. We explored the farm over the next couple days and the mountains too. But usually we were happy to come back, sit on the porch and talk or read a book or watch a movie at one point. My dog loved the area and the cabin. He is crate trained and seemed to think of the cabin as one big crate for his "pack". Although I like to mix it up when traveling, I think we may end up staying at the cabin again.
