Hawkins pointe is our go to park to stay when we're stopping in Chattanooga for an overnight or a week. Sites are full hookups with 50amp service, the staff is very friendly and it's very convenient to I-75/I-24.

Came here with Troop 513 and our Boy Scouts and adults really enjoyed a truly wonderful and satisfying experience. The cave exploration is definitely an adventure and challenging and pushes you to the limit while being guided by experienced guides. Our cave guides were Tristan and Emily and both were very kind, helpful, and knowledgeable of the cave and their experience definitely made what would have otherwise been a very frustrating and difficult task a fun and truly memorable experience. Tip: you can bring your phone if you aren't afraid to possibly damage or lose it as you will be crawling and squeezing through many parts of the adventure. 5 stars for the cave adventure and 5 stars for the campgrounds. Thank you for all you do for the scouts and making this great experience available to the public!

I really wanted to love Raccoon Mountain Campground because it had been on my list for years. In…read morefact, I had almost booked a trip here with my son about 10 years ago. After finally getting the chance to stay here during our road trip, I'd say it was an okay experience, but not somewhere I'd personally be eager to return for tent camping. The biggest advantage is definitely the location. It's only about 15 minutes from downtown Chattanooga, making it a convenient base if you plan to spend most of your time exploring the city. The campground also has a pool and offers access to the nearby caverns (for an additional fee), which is a nice option if that's something you're interested in. We stayed only one night, and unfortunately, our campsite wasn't my favorite. We were placed off by ourselves in a corner near the campground entrance road. While traffic wasn't constant overnight, our tent was still very close to the road. The site was elevated, uneven, and rocky, making it difficult to move around safely--especially in the dark. Even while fully awake, I tripped several times stepping off the ledge to get to the car or campfire. It also felt tighter than many of the other available tent sites we passed. The bathhouse was definitely a highlight. It was clean, air-conditioned, and had plenty of bathrooms and hot showers. The unexpected star of our stay was the campground cat! We affectionately nicknamed her "Lolita," and she kept us company throughout the evening. Feeding her a little bacon the next morning was honestly one of my favorite memories from this stop. If we ever came back, it might be just to see if Lolita is still greeting campers. One thing to note is that the creek shown on the property was dry during our visit, so there wasn't any flowing water or creekside atmosphere. The staff was polite, but our interactions felt fairly brief and impersonal. They do escort you to your campsite, which was appreciated. Overall, Raccoon Mountain Campground wasn't a bad experience--it just wasn't the right fit for us as tent campers. RV campers may enjoy it more, especially if they're looking for easy access to Chattanooga. For our style of camping, though, the campsite itself didn't offer enough comfort or scenery to make us want to return. If you're looking for a convenient overnight stop near the city, it does the job, but for us, one night was enough.

We scheduled our…read morecabin vacation months in advance only to find Hurricane Ian bearing down on us here in the Tampa Bay/Clearwater area. We have a small 3 lb. dog who the neighbor was going to watch for us on vacation but because of the storm he was unable to watch. We call KOA and asked if we could add a couple of extra days as we were needing to evacuate as Tampa/Clearwater was going to be a direct hit, they said YES! Asked due to the circumstances could we please bring our dog as we couldn't leave her. Even the Governor is saying don't leave your pets behind. Of course we wouldn't think of it. The person on the phone said. NO. It was against their policy. Because of this we would then need to cancel our reservation. Of course they would cancel but would keep our deposit. WHAT! I said we were not cancelling because we changed our mind, we are having to figure something out because we are having to flee due to the storm. She said that was their policy, no refund of deposit if the cancellation was less than a week. We called Tuesday and our arrival was Friday. Then she went on the say they have storms where there all the time and this is their policy...NO refund. Unbelievable, where is the human compassion? Must say it is not about the money, more about the structure of such an empathic policy. Maybe, I was stressed due to the storm and the unknown feeling of would we even have a home to come back to and my grown children located in Florida too. I was so angry, I found the phone number of Corporate KOA and called as I wanted them to know who truly represents them. The lady who answered was kind, understanding and expressed sympathy. She said she would contact the owner of the KOA Chattanooga West and hope that they would reconsider. She said and did all what you would expect giving this difficult situation. She made me feel like a person again that someone actually care about. Not only what we were going through but the logic to our request and the right thing to do. John called KOA Chattanooga West the next day to see if they would keep his deposit? YEP, they said it was their policy and the pending storm did not make difference and they sent him an email telling him there would be no refund. So if you ask me would I visit there, would I recommend?... The answer is NO as although I am sure it is a beautiful place there personal unkindness has certainly tainted my view. We are thankful that Hurricane Ian spared us in Tampa/Clearwater FL and pray for those who have lost their lives and homes in Ft. Myers. *Note... If you need to cancel please do so according to their policy because they don't give a @#$% about anything but the almighty dollar$. The owners of KOA Chattanooga West should be ashamed!

Most are visible from overlooks with short hikes, and for the more adventurous, there are treks to the bottom of the namesake falls, a cable trail (bring leather gloves, carabiner, possibly climbing gear) to Rockhouse Falls, or longer trails like the Paw Paw loop, Overlook trail, or even the Prater Place for a hidden Hemlock Falls. I also stayed in the lodge, which was fantastic! The rooms were well equipped, comfortable, and had great features like balconies. The view at the restaurant over the lake was beautiful, especially at sunset. The fisherman style cabins have decks literally on the water, so that looked like a must see at some point, too!! Couple of other hits: pet friendly rooms, pet friendly trails, golf course, cabins, fire pit and pool at lodge, Nature Center, and Visitor Center!

Many sites in campground C have a minimum to major slope to the concrete sites as they fall to a valley. All utilities are in the back corners of sites that include water spigot, a power pedestal with 20AMP, 30AMP, 50AMP electricity, and sewer connection. The campground did have decent guest WiFi, but we utilized our own StarLink satellite for internet. The park is amazing with golf, lodge, trails, and falls.
