This is one of the nicest rest areas we have been to. It's basically a visitor center and rest area…read morein one. There is lots of information inside on things to do in the area. I probably spent 30 minutes looking through the brochures here. They also have a bulletin board with events in the area but unfortunately it doesn't look like it gets updated . The majority of the flyers were from July and it is now October . It would have been nice to see current events and things happening in the area . They have vending machines and they even have a microwave for people to use, which is unique and very thoughtful. There is a button you can push inside if you need the police, so that helps with a feeling of safety and I did see a red and white sheriff's vehicle parked there with two deputies inside on my visit. There are lots of tables outside with chairs and a grassy area where you can take your pets. Plus the view of the water is very beautiful, especially right now with all the fall foliage.

I'm sitting here on vacation and didn't realize Shock had a yelp so I decided to review. Where do I even begin?? Well, I own my own gym in NYC I own several properties I have two wonderful children. I owe everything to Shock. It helped me see my value, gave me unyielding drive and discipline and showed me how to set goals. I don't want to brag but I've accomplished unbelievable feats because of my work ethic. My current day: I get up everyday at 3am, train clients and run my gym and then I'm off around 12 in the afternoon. I then go to my condo to remodel it. I set my own schedule and operate by rules of thirds. 1 third work, 1 third hobby, 1 third sleep. I'm fit and healthy and work with societies top socioeconomic class. Speaking on them... I wouldn't trade my life for ANY doctor, engineer, lawyer etc. They may have education, (speaking on the ones I know) but they lack discipline and the ability to act towards a desired goal. They are tired and weak and overworked because they can't change their reality. Life never got easy. I always needed to clean or fix or deal with something, but that's life. Shock is a reflection of life. I don't consider myself better than anyone else, nor do I feel I am deserving of a particular life. I'm not an elitist, but I do strongly feel Shock gave me something 99.9 people lack. It's difficult to describe, but I know I can't be the only one who left Shock and did great things with his life. Enjoyed my stay at the Johnstown cabin! It really is a great state park that allows you to…read moredecompress from it all. In the forest but still close to the lake. All of the cabins have two bedrooms, bathroom, living room, dining room/kitchen area. Microwave and oven/stove in the kitchen. It can comfortably sleep up to 6 guests- 1 queen size bed and four twin size bunk beds. You will need to bring everything for the cabin- bedding, cooking supplies, toiletries and cleaning supplies- nothing is provided. It comes with a firepit and a charcoal grill. There are many places locally to purchase fire wood. There are some cabins that are dog friendly. Laundry is on-site in the cabin area. The only thing I didn't like is that the cabin we stayed in wasn't very clean. We had to do a lot of cleaning when we arrived.

We had a decent double bed with quality linens, a pull out sofa, cable television, DVD player, all the dishes/pots and linens we needed, coffee maker, and the bath towels were thick and sweet smelling. We complimented the house keeping staff when they came by checking to see if we needed a clean up (only for those staying 7 days or more). The grounds were well maintained and set back in a groove of trees. We did not have a lakeside view, but we could hear the boats out on the Lake. Everything was quiet quiet quiet. After 10:30pm it was quiet even on the weekend. I did not even hear any road noise. We definitely want to come back, but will have to reserve early so we can get a bigger cabin with the screened porch and extra bedroom.
