So we take the very relaxing hour drive south to Ellicottville, and I bring them to this decently sized dog park. It's located right off the main road into EVL, and shares a parking lot with a fire station. It also shares property with like a soccer field, playground, and maybe a picnic table or two. Pretty area, and plenty to do in EVL. The only reason I give this 3 stars, is because the dog bags (for their poop), are located OUTSIDE the dog park. Maybe this ain't a big deal for some, but for me I have three issues, which might seem silly, but I'll explain either way. 1. I cannot leave my dogs unattended. This may sound graphic, but they will legitimately kill other dogs/animals. They aren't friendly, and they often work as a team. And with both at 80lbs., even "big" dogs, aren't that big when two 80lb-ers team up. I wish they were nice and social. But they aren't. Period. So leaving the park to go get bags, isn't an option for me. 2. (Silly to some) I personally don't want to "pre-game" the bags, and grab some before I enter. I always feel weird, especially if I'm seen doing it. Like I feel like I look like the dude that steals bags from the park because I'm too cheap to buy my own. I know, dumb, but it's just how I feel. 3. (Pet Peeve) I cannot stand the kind of person that uses a public space and their dog poops there, and they don't pick it up. I feel like the bags being outside, especially if the person doesn't realize it or forgets to grab some, is just inviting owners NOT to pick up after their pets. Otherwise, it's a large area with grass and trees surrounded by a fence. It's a dog park.

There is a double gated enterance so the dogs can't sneak out when others are entering/exiting. There is a small dog side (less than 25lbs) and an all dog side. However the all dog side is truely a mud pit. Even when it hasn't rained for a while. The area is large enough that you can walk around with your dog and still get some good exercise. I was up in Meadville for the weekend and decided to bring the pups along. I kept searching for a…read moredog park and was super lucky to come across the Conneaut Lake Bark Park! This place is easy to miss if you aren't paying attention and the GPS actually took me down the street, but once I pulled in and saw what this place had to offer I was super stoked. This place has multiple different pens for dogs of all sizes, from puppy, to small, to the big guys. We let our pups loose in the big dog park and they had an absolute blast (at least I think they did, they mostly just peed, ran, and stomped around in the mud). This was my Chow Chow's first time off leash since a big surgery a few months back and this place offered plenty of space to run, toys to play with, and fence to mark his territory (which is definitely not his since we aren't even from Pennsylvania, but try telling him that). On top of having all of the above, there is a pond with a dock for dogs that love dock diving, how cool is that? I definitely recommend anyone with a pup in this area give this place a shot, you won't regret it!

Of the many small villages within the New York State, the Village of Lakewood is one of the better,…read moremore pleasant villages to be found. Bordering on the west shoreline of Lake Chautauqua it has a lot to offer, such as boating, swimming and in the winter ice skating and cross country skiing. The homes here are lovely with many of them, such as the old Packard Mansion, summer home of J. Ward Packard, founder of Packard Motor, historic though this particular residence has now unfortunately been converted into multiple condo complexes. The village is also within easy access and reach of the City of Jamestown and the Villages of Celeron and Bemus Point which likewise boarder Lake Chautauqua.

I had one condition to go on this road trip, I wanted to stop and see the Scary Lucy Statue. After seeing it online a few years ago, I just wanted to see it in person. We mapped it out and found our way to this park. The park, overall, is beautiful and a complete asset. There are pavilions, a boat slip, a playground, restrooms, and plenty of seating. When you park at the park and start to walk towards the grounds you are greeted by Lucy. Not Scary Lucy, but the Nice Lucy. The Lucy that commanded your attention as she is about to make her skirt flow. Almost like she was there to welcome you into the park and tell you to enjoy yourself while here. Weirdly enough, this statue, the more welcoming statue, is the older of the two statues of the park. We then made our way over to the Scary Lucy statue. Oof, what a statue it is. Unveiled in 2009, I'm sure a lot of people had to do a double take. I know and understand that they were attempting to pay tribute to this legend, but they really missed the mark. Enjoy the picture as that was what I got to see up close. What made it a bit more scary was the amount of spiderwebs all over the statue. After we took in the statues we walked about the park and ended up by the boat slip and lighthouse. We walked out on the pier and I have to say that this is some of the clearest water I have seen in a while. While there, we assisted a couple in launching their boat, well, my brother did, I had my camera taking a tong of pictures. With the view taken in and statues seen, we decided to get on the road and keep on trucking down the road.

There is a big parking lot which makes it easy to stop and a large playground area right when you get out of your car. They also have benches and picnic areas and we spotted a small lighthouse near the water that we walked over to check out. It looked very cool. Our reason for stopping here however was obviously the statues of Lucille Ball. There are two of them. The newer prettier Lucy statue is charming and super well done. I loved seeing her in the classic polka dot dress! (My dog had on a cute little plaid dress that day so I had to get her in the photo as well) The older statue though that is referred to as the ugly one was honestly terrible. The nod to vitameatavegamin was awesome and honestly I think it probably wouldn't have seemed so bad had I not seen the pretty sculpture first, but honestly it's a little shocking. Unfortunately, it was overcast like I said so it was difficult to get good pictures of anything but if you're an Isle of Lucy fan or even just passing through the area, this park is definitely worth a visit. It only takes a few minutes to see the statues and you can enjoy some nice scenery by the water.
