Dr. Chavez is 100% the absolute WORST doctor on this earth - Lucifer in the flesh!!!! BEWARE AND AVOID!!!!!! One of my family members currently has a 9cm ovarian cyst and although she was rushed to the ER with severe stomach pain (and has been in Woman's Hospital of Texas for 3 days so far due to pain), Dr. Chavez told her she was not a candidate for emergency surgery! He told her she should wait a couple of months to see if it would shrink!! To top it off, the manner in which he spoke to her made her cry!!! She will definitely be seeing a different doctor as soon as she's released from the hospital, and I bet anything that surgery in the near future WILL be a possibility (and not in 2 months!) Follow Up 1 day later: My family member was released from Woman's Hospital (while prescribed Hydrocodone by Dr. Chavez for her continued, excruciating pain) and was able to be seen by a reputable Ob/Gyn in Clear Lake (he has a 4.9 out of 5-star rating from 238 reviews). I am SO relieved and thankful to announce that she is scheduled to have her grapefruit-sized ovarian cyst surgically removed in 3 days. It also took her new doctor all of 5 minutes to make that decision, especially after reviewing her Woman's Hospital records. Needless to say, prayer is powerful and there ARE great doctors in the Houston area. Just be sure to always get a second opinion, especially if your first is from someone like Dr. Chavez, who obviously doesn't care about his patients who have a large enough cyst that could potentially cause serious complications! Not to mention how much pain she's in and how much work she would be missing, etc. due to this horrible situation!!! Shame on you Dr. Chavez!!!! Update 4 days after Dr. Chavez released my family member from Woman's Hospital: Her surgery with her new Ob-Gyn was successful!! Her new doctor discovered that the ovarian cyst not only had grown, but torsion had begun!! Luckily her ovary was unharmed!!! Once again, those seeking a new Ob-Gyn need to avoid Dr. Chavez at all costs and those who are current patients need to run from him as fast as they can!!!! One last comment.... Dr. Chavez is 74 years old!!!! Due to his negligent behavior and discourteous demeanor, I personally feel he should not be seeing patients and should retire instead!!! read more

I went in to verify pregnancy after 4 positive pregnancy tests. I started bleeding the night before my appointment. I already suspected I was having a miscarriage. I had to wait for UNBEARABLE HOURS to see the Dr. who told me my urine pregnancy test was negative. He sent me to have a blood test WITHOUT giving me any exam or explanation except as he walked out the door saying, "You might be having a miscarriage." Like it was no big deal! Then I was told I would NOT get results until the next day! The next day, I called Anya 6 times to get the results and she NEVER returned my call! I had to call the answering service to speak with her! Then she gave me MAJOR attitude telling me they were busy all day and she would have called me. She said my pregnancy test was positive but that I probably had a miscarriage! Again, like it was no big deal! She also rarely returned call when I was pregnant and I needed to take a class to manage Gestational Diabetes! I never got to take it. I had to deal w/her during a high risk pregnancy. I'm NOT AMUSED. I was bleeding heavily and in lots of pain so called the answering service to ask him if I needed to visit the ER! NEVER got a call back from the Dr.! Which is unusual. TWO DAYS LATER the receptionist called and asked me to be at their office in 2 hours for an ultrasound. I go to the office and Jessica is working at the front desk. Rather than taking my $15 co-pay, she MAKES me give her $93.56or they will REFUSE SERVICE WHICH IS ILLEGAL!!! I'm traumatized and in serious pain and have my infant daughter with me and she's crying so I pay them. Then I had to WAIT HOURS to see the Dr. after the ultrasound for him to tell me I had a miscarriage. I ask why this keeps happening. He says miscarriages just happen. I ask about a reproductive endocrinologist and he asks me WHY?! I said because I can't go through this again.He just acts like he didn't hear me!! I LEAVE WITHOUT A REFERRAL OR ANY ANSWERS WHILE STILL BLEEDING!!! I never get a follow up call from him or anything! Both times I WAITED SEVERAL HOURS TO SEE THE DR. LESS THAN 5 MINUTES! That resulted in my having to go to the ER 4 days later and get IV fluids and pain meds!! Nearly a month later I'm still having health problems due to this AND STILL BLEEDING! I feel totally marginalized and disregarded! I go home, call my insurance and they tell me that Olivia called to verify my insurance while I was standing in the office and THEY TOLD HER I ONLY HAD TO PAY $15! I call and speak to Betty @ the Dr.'s office and inform her that Jessica told me my insurance would only cover $7 of the visit! The insurance company told me that's a lie so they basically stole $93.56 from me!! I'm told that they ALREADY CASHED MY CHECK! I ask to speak to the office manager and they tell me she's not in. FOR DAYS THEY GIVE ME THE RUNAROUND THEN WHEN I DO TALK TO HER SHE'S A TOTAL BITCH AND REFUSES TO GIVE ME A REFUND OR APOLOGIZE! Magically after speaking to the insurance company they say they will hold my check until this is resolved. I never hear back from them! They change up their story w/the insurance company telling them I didn't have an office visit to try to justify stealing from me during a traumatic and life altering event! Classy! This sounds like insurance fraud to me. I wonder about what they charge Medicaid because they have about a million Medicaid patients. I need to add that while I was waiting HOURS to see the Dr., another woman walked in and showed them receipts where they MADE HER PAY $400+ and they OWED HER A REFUND TOO!! Th.ey were rude to her, denied her the refund and she left. This is not the first time I've seen that happen either. I'm very disappointed in this Dr.! I don't know if he knows what's going on with his office staff but he needs to get his house in order because he's losing loyal patients. I scheduled a well woman exam for March and they called me to postpone it twice which left me w/May 31. He has entirely too many patients, there is standing room only whenever I have an appointment and I have to spend several hours if not the entire day in his office EVERY TIME I see him. Many of these patients are medicaid patients (no judgment) and many of them bring all their kinds and their entire family with them to every appointment. I'm always worried about getting sick from people coughing and sneezing in his office and NOT covering their mouths! I need better treatment and more attention to my health than I am given here. I can no longer in good conscience recommend this doctor. I'm sad to report this news. I do have to compliment the midwife Jane Frekking (not sure of the correct spelling) who at other visits during my pregnancy answered all my questions and addressed my concerns. She also practices at Midwives of East Houston (713-393-2229). I have not seen her at that office so I can't tell you what to expect there. Worst Dr ever. After having my first child delivered by Dr chavez By section he failed to sew me up properly. All he cears about Is Medicaid patents. He is rude and a cearless human being. When I went for a follow up my blood pressure was high. I was sceard and asked why its coming out high and he told me that I'm fat and need to loose weight keep in mind I had just had a baby, I left the office crying and never went back. When I was pregnant with my second child my stomach hung so low because all the layers that were cut during my fist section by Dr chavez were not all sewd properly so my new dr had to fix what he faild to do . Dr. Anthony Chavez is very friendly and very knowledgable. He always remembers who I am and what my Husband is doing in school (why we are here in Houston) and asks about it. He is very busy and has LOTS of patients to see because he is a great doctor, so sometimes there is a pretty long wait. He gets booked up quick, so I would recommend making an appointment in advance. I was sad he wasn't able to deliver my baby, as he was out of town and my daughter came early, but I have now been to him for 3 pregnancies. My first baby, a miscarriage and now my current pregnancy. He has been very thorough and will make sure that he prescribes the best medicine for a pregnant woman (including antacids that are safe/my husband double checked to see why he gave me one over another brand that I had requested). Also, if there is a problem, they will schedule you and get you in the same day if necessary. Which, is also another reason why the wait may be long! Have some patience people. I do agree with the other post on here as far as families coming to every appointment. It is a very small office and it is always packed, but it wouldn't be so bad if only the patient and maybe even one person accompanying her like her husband/significant other or mom or something. The whole family DEFINITELY shouldn't come along for the appointment. It will be miserable for everyone and make waiting miserable for everyone else! All in all. Dr. Chavez is great! Only reason Dr. Chavez's office doesn't get 5 stars from us is well...the office. If you want a MD that is calm, experienced, and sticks with the facts (not a "sales person" like some MDs with their over the top bedside manner), then Dr. Chavez is the MD for you. My wife had two children in two years with Dr. Chavez and while front office staff is difficult to deal with at times, Dr. Chavez is worth it. My wife had PPH during delivery of our first and while the hospital staff were running around like chickens with their heads cut off (we were practically standing in the blood my wife was loosing), Dr. Chavez told everyone to "STOP" in a firm commanding voice and spelled out (literally spelled out) the device he needed to stop the hemorrhaging. Most of the nurses at the Women's hospital didn't even know what the device was, but I can thank the experience of Dr. Chavez for my wife still being here. I think if we had had our original OB that we started the pregnancy out with, who was very young but very good with bedside manner, my wife would surely not be here. Dr. Chavez came highly recommended to us by over a dozen of my wife's friends, family. Now when we tell people about our experience, more often than not either they or someone they know also speak very highly of Dr. Chavez. My wife now drives down from Fort Worth (over 4 hours) to see Dr. Chavez even for well woman visits because he did such a great job with both of our children. Bottom line, some patients want to be coddled and if you think about it, if the MD is spending time coddling patients, he can't help you in the time of need...so if you want what is best for you and your child, I highly recommend putting up with the front office staff to see Dr. Chavez. read more

I have been Dr. Chavez's patient since 2008. He has delivered both my girls via C-Section. the first one was an emergency and he was in charge of the whole delivery, start to finish. My second one was a scheduled c-section and that as well he was in charge start to finish. I have absolutely no complaints about him. His office is very busy. His staff has always been nice to me and even when I visit now for my well woman, they still know my name. It is good to see staff that have been with the same doctor for so long. Midwife Jane is always wonderful. She is the ying to Dr. Chavez's yang. Yes Dr. Chavez is quiet but I would rather have a quiet doctor that knows his stuff than a pill pusher any day. When I was in the operating room prepping for the c-sections, he was very calm, he held my hand and in a calm voice he asked me if I was nervous and assured me that everything was going to be okay and gave me the step by step of what was going to happen and he asked me if I had any questions of my own and proceeded to brake the ice with light humor seeing that I was nervous.
