My daughter has been a part of Cheer Advantage for 8 years now. Her growth as an athlete, teammate, friend and as an all around person is so impressive. She has advanced in her tumbling skills year after year. She's learned to adapt to new situations and work well with others. These are both skills that have transferred to all aspects of her life. From a parent's perspective, the dedication, hard work, and overall confidence she has learned is so valuable. From a kid's perspective, she's achieving goals and most importantly, having fun! We have had such a great experience at Cheer Advantage! The owners know every athlete by name and work hard to ensure that each athlete gets coaching support to improve their skill set. The teams are thoughtfully compiled and coaches work hard to maximize the teams' success. This is my daughter's second year, and she absolutely loves it! We've been at Cheer Advantage for 3 years now and have multiple daughters in the program. We're in awe of how much our girls have learned and the amount of progress they've made during their time at CA. The staff is knowledgeable and extremely dedicated. CA is a family oriented gym where the staff knows each child/family by name and prioritizes fostering a love of the sport and the growth of their athletes, both individually and as a team. Our girls also cheer for their high school/town as many CA athletes do. When they've run into their CA teammates at high school games/competitions they cheer on one another's team as if it was their own - it's amazing to see - and is a testament to the close-knit family environment that CA nurtures. read more

-I am a parent of a former Cheer Advantage athlete. We were members of the gym for 4 years and my child has decided to focus on High School Cheer going forward. -Approximately 50 athletes did not return to the gym for the 2023-2024 all-star cheer season Per our experience, -The owners are out of touch with their customers, and overall industry changes -The owners lack professionalism, break confidentiality, and are inconsistent in their decision making processes -The owners only pay attention to positive feedback about their program. As much as they ask for feedback, they are not receptive to constructive criticism. -The owners do not take accountability for their actions...it's always someone else's fault. They repeatedly threw their coaches/staff under the bus re: poor competition performances/placement this past season. It was apparent that the owners and coaches were not on the same page and the athletes, teams, and program suffered because of it. -The owner's emotions inhibit their ability to manage their gym effectively Recommendation: -Do your research, check out and compare other local all-star cheer gyms re: monthly tuition, annual fees, athlete/coach training, classes offered, teams offered, contract terms, Booster Club and fundraising opportunities. -Take a tour of other gyms and get a feel for the energy, environment, and culture. -Meet with different owners and inquire about their management style and program goals. Ask how they plan to reach their goals -Look at other all-star cheer gym Facebook and Instagram pages to get a feel for what happens inside the gym and how the gym is being promoted -Check out Varsity.com to review last seasons routines to see the caliber of tumbling, stunting, creativity, complexity, technique, overall performance, scores, and placement. read more

I'm sorry that this a long version of the issues that we experienced here, but I just wanted to warn potential new families to the cheer gym in Norwood. My daughter had been at her longtime cheer gym in Norwood for many years, starting on a mini team up to a junior level team. She was extremely happy there and we were not looking to change cheer gyms in the slightest, until the owners turned out to be people who talked about their customers to other customers behind their backs lying and contributors to infighting. They would talk about other moms/kids behind their backs, giving away their personal information that was thought to be private, and probably one of the worst things was giving away peoples health information as well. ****I heard about other moms that would try to be helpful when asked by the gym owners and give constructive criticism back to them when asked, and when they didn't like that constructive criticism, it was turned around and the owners would blame these particular moms for the issues at hand. It was never the 2 gym owners fault, NEVER, not once. I do admit, I am one of the almost half of the gym that left last year after being told things would change, year after year. However, they never did. **** If you were to ask the owners why so many people left the gym, you will not be told the truth. The truth is that they are not good cheer gym owners, PERIOD. Why else would there be a mass exodus of 50+ kids? As an example of how NOT concerned the gym owners are, some of the families who left the gym were hoping to sell back the girls competition uniform to the new kids that joined the gym this year. Since the gym/families purchase the competition uniform for 2 year cycles, there is still 1 year left to compete in them. If the families that left can resell the uniform back for half the price, it's a win win for the departed parent and the new parent. However, the owners told the departed parents that they could not do this, and furthermore told the new families they shouldn't talk to all the families, around 50+ of us. I find it strange that the owners will ups #1 be so insecure that they had to tell the new families not to talk to the departed ones and #2 wouldn't watch out for the new families and help facilitate that for them to save a little bit of money in a very expensive sport. It looks like they are just watching out for themselves, AGAIN! Like the time when the majority of parents didn't want to go to Nashville for a competition so we could all cut back and save a bit of money since we were going to Orlando in May. The gym owners didn't want to listen to their customers, so off to Nashville we go, only to spend thousands of dollars and do horribly. Some of the teams did so bad, that when it was time for awards ceremony the 2 gym owners were nowhere to be found, NOWHERE!! They didn't go to the awards ceremony to support their own teams! Additionally, come to find out that the major reason we were there was because their husbands wanted to go to Nashville, THEIR HUSBANDS, not the cheer teams. One of the issues that sealed the deal for us leaving the cheer gym was the boosters money not being returned to the parents that earned that money. Many parents asked for THEIR money back that THEY earned, not the owners and were told 'sorry' and 'what are they going to do, sue me?' If asked where that money went, possibly $1000's, 'it's gone'. Renting a gym space cost money, why wouldn't they use money for rent that wasn't theirs? I know this is a long rant, but I just wanted people/customers to be aware that it won't be very cheer-ful at that cheer gym in Norwood. It makes me sad that my 7 year old has already endured racism, body shaming, and bullying. It makes me sad that it all happened in a place that was supposed to be her "safe place" outside of home and school-- Cheer Advantage. It makes me angry that adults involved in the situation didn't take accountability. It makes me infuriated that no appropriate measures were taken in order to support my baby and instead, they preferred to let Penelope quit the team as a whole so they didn't have to rectify the situation at hand. I knew I should've seen red flags when I was kicked out of the WAITING area by a coach that labeled me as a "LIABILITY" just for waiting for my child to get out of practice. I should've seen the red flag when Cyndy told me that she "didn't know what else to do about the situation since she isn't Black." And I knew I should've seen the red flag when the owner Jen said other parents have complained about the same child and yet they refuse to terminate her because she has a sister and cousins on a team. It's true what they say, some organizations have a "no tolerance policy" and others are just "money hungry." Cheer Advantage was the latter. So to those of you interested in putting your littles in cheer and you identify as Black or Brown, this isn't the place for you. I do NOT recommend! read more
