This is a cute, local cheese shop, deli and semi-grocery shop with an old time interior decor and tasty food. There is also a nice outdoor patio with a few tables and a quiet view in the shade of some big trees. Very good food that's cooked to order comes out hot good service. Unfortunately they do have food on their shelves that's out of date and they just fail to take it down I guess, that's not good. Wish they offered something other than chips or chips for their wraps and things like a vegetable or something a little bit more healthy would be nice. We needed someplace to grab lunch on the way downstate, and Yelp pointed us in this direction. Even though this place is a good three blocks away from anything of note, it still fit the bill. The Cheese Shop is on the north side of some light industrial buildings, and next to a store that sells indoor/outdoor patio furniture. Inside is a whole lot of kitsch, with random candy sprinkled throughout the store. Parents of kids that know how to walk and have a sweet tooth, beware! On recommendation from the girl behind the counter I got a buffalo sauce chicken sandwich basket (with fries and slaw) while my wife had a regular turkey and cheese sandwich. The quick summary of the meal is: good ingredients, cooked right. The chicken was nice and crispy. The buffalo sauce was primarily just hot, but went great with the lettuce and mayo in the sandwich. Buns were good quality. Deli meats were also of good quality. When I finally got the fries after a mix-up, they were nicely salted, a bit crispy but exactly what you expect from french fries. The slaw earned extra points for being just peppery enough to be great. I was happy with The Cheese Shop, and i don't think it was the Top 40 80's music coming out of the jukebox. The Cheese Shop is a great little spot. It's definitely a hidden gem...you would never accidentally drive past it. I went here once for lunch with co-workers. It's fairly small and crowded over lunch time. I ordered the macaroni and cheese at the recommendation of others. I probably wouldn't get it again - it's more like a Velveeta cheese than real melted cheese. I did think the place was very inexpensive and liked that the lunch came with a small salad. read more

A little hard to find as it is far from the beaten path, but fret not your adventure into Ottawas west side will prove to be fruitful. I honestly can not even begin to describe this place I have had there catering and take out in the past and never really considered it special until I decided to take a friend and dine in. The entire place is littered with interesting decor and clean as a whistle, the staff friendly and knowledgeable who could ask for more? What your not asking for more well you are getting it, inside is the deli complete and quaint with all sorts of extra goodies I can not even begin to get into and the dine in menu is complete not like the mass made catering or the little to go menus I have been presented in the past. Oh man. I wish it was as good as last time. I ordered a fish taco ($4/per taco) and it was still amazing. They changed the breading (more of a corn dog outer layer) sweet and corn mealy, but I didn't mind. They totally went chincy on the coleslaw/spice on top. There was hardly any on there. There are two breaded deep fried fish fillets on a flour tortilla. Different but still, yum! The Philly cheesesteak (8.99$) was tiny for the price! Yes, lots of meat for the bun, but the bun was a 3 inch hotdog bun. And it was sooo salty, I took it back. They substituted the ribeye sandwich for the cheesesteak. The ribeye was good. A little chew to the meat, seasoned but not salty. Just disappointed overall at the fluctuation of taste profile. read more

Prices were very fair, food was so so good, and Matt was a pleasure to work with. The little sandwiches we had them bring for our lunch at the venue were delirious and probably the best sliced deli sandwiches I'd ever have. Got fish tocos for the fist time. I did not know they put some kind of a black pepper ranch looking dressing on it. They very spicy hot and did not like it on them at all. They burned my mouth. It would have been nice if the girl told me that is how they are served. They would have been perfect without the dressing. I think it would be nice to get a choice of dressings. We ordered grilled cheese, meatball, turkey and Italian sandwiches. Everything was excellent. The homemade potato chips were delicious. The service was friendly. I enjoy the feeling of an old fashioned family owned business. We catered food from the Cheese Shop for our family picnic and it was incredible. Everyone wanted to know where the food came from! Our original picnic location was near Ottawa and this place was recommended to us by a friend. Due to bad weather, we had to change the location of our picnic to our home town of Joliet but since we had already ordered the food, I drove into Ottawa to pick it up.
