While George was so kind to offer us some samples of falafel when we couldn't make up our mind, the rest of the food left more to be desired. It pains me to leave this review, but unfortunately it's the truth The chicken was far too sweet, lamb was incredibly bland, and I've never had sweeter tzatziki in my life. I ordered the Greek plate and my husband had the standard lamb gyro. I didn't even finish my plate and ended up throwing 3/4 of it away. It's really hard to mess up Greek food, but boy did they ever. After reading reviews my family and I decided to make this our first food stop on the island. We got 2 fish plates and one chicken. The food was flavorless, meat were dry and everything (salad, pita, sauce) was very generic. There was no special island touch or technique in the preparation of the food. Delicious lamb that George does indeed butcher himself, layered with pesto, feta, tzatziki, tomatoes....melt in yo mouf yum. Husband had Kalua Pork Bun sauced up with mango and ginger. It was also melt in yo mouf yum. Seriously tender. We shared an order of fries (just regular...he was out of the uli), and they were the BEST fries I've ever had. What made them so special was the fact that they were fried in COCONUT OIL. Light, crispy, hint of sweetness, so good. You can tell he is a conscious chef, he only likes to butcher 2 lambs a week so at the end of the week he's a little short on lamb. His offerings are organic, and he has Paleo options as well! Chef George is just that. A CHEF , he just happens to be in a food truck. Which in this day n age means he's cool like the other kids. George makes a killer, super awesome lamb burrito. He has lots of vegetarian options and sources local when available. He was talking to a local fisherman while I was standing there, maybe fresh snapper today. My burrito was more than enough for two meals. I'm looking forward to my next visit. The truck is blue and kinda back behind The Healthy Hut. This place was hard for me to find so I called and George picked up and told me exactly how to get there. If you're at Opaekaa falls, go down towards Kamukila Hawaiian Village and drive all the way down a little dirt road to the parking lot and you should see the food truck. This was my last meal before I headed to the airport and it was amazing. My friend and I both had the Ono Fish Burger ($13.50). It's a tempura coated fried fish served with kimchi, nori, shoyu jelly, and greens on a poi bun. It's one of the best fish burgers I've had and I really loved how the flavors came together. The fish was incredibly fresh tasting and just lighted coated and fried. It'd be great just to have this as a fish and chips dish too. We were the first customers of the day and I actually saw them start to set up. The order took over 10min but it's probably because they were setting up still. Wowzer... this place is a gem. It's definitely not cheap, but the Mediterranean fare here is exquisite. We ordered 2 lamb gyros and the Mediterranean platter which comes with falafel, tzatziki, pita bread, some kind of marinated pork (you actually get your choice of meat... 2 of 'em!), and taboulleh. We originally ordered the food to go, but decided to have a quick sample before we left. Well... we ended up finishing our gyros, and half the platter! Oops. :) The food was just that good. Again, a little pricey, but this is Hawaii, and you should be expecting to throw down your cash while you're here. Totally worth it, and trust me, you will NOT be hungry after chowing at this spot. There's outside seating available near the other food carts, and they do have umbrellas to protect against the elements. The one thing that you won't have protection from is the wind... make sure to put something on top of your napkins otherwise they will take flight! read more

The gyro includes vegetable, tzatziki sauce, and feta cheese. I would believe it if someone told me it is the best Greek food on the island because it is a small island and this food truck may be the only Greek option. Nevertheless, it is a solid choice if you are craving Greek on Kauai. It is also the food truck in the pod that is open later than the rest. The 9 PM close is liberal. If the truck has business, it will stay open till then. As a result, make sure to plan your trip there well before the stated close time. We searched "Organic Dinner" near Kilauea, and Chef George of Da Jungle popped up. Based on the reviews on Yelp, we checked out his truck, which was conveniently located next to the Healthy Hut store. My fiancee is gluten free and when she mentioned that, George told us about the gluten free bread option for sandwiches, and the black rice wrap for the wraps. He even let us sample the bread, which is made locally (Sweet Marie's I think). We opted to both get the lamb plate, my fiancee went with Greek-style (tzatziki (sp?) sauce), and I went with the red curry. Both were fantastic, the sauces are good, but the lamb is awesome. George sources his meat locally, and it is delicious! We also got the sweet potato fries, which were some of the best we've ever had. Cooking in organic coconut oil is apparently the way to do it. We want to try the ulu (breadfruit) fries next time. The only drawback we found was that the seating nearest George's truck was a little "buggy" when we were there, but we moved over to the lanai nearby and it was fine. Brought the whole family to George of Da jungles and had a great experience. George was out of lamb falafel because he was about to move locations and wanted to use what he had, but that didn't put a damper on anything. Here were our orders: 1. 1/2 Lamb Burger - very tasty and had a distinctive greek/middle eastern taste. he actually cooked two separate lamb patties then put a tomato and cheese in-between them. delicious. I asked what he recommended and that's what he gave me. Excellent choice. 2. Fish Burger - again, distinctive middle eastern taste to the tempura fish burger. I was bummed when I ordered George's Gyro and I was told the lamb was out. He offered up the lamb burger instead and wowwww. That hit the spot more than the gyro I had been anticipating on the drive there. Super juicy patties (I went 1/2 pound for two patties), delicious feta and fresh greens and tomatoes. I'd eat it again any day. My wife ordered a chicken gyro which also very flavorful and more generously sizes than the gyros I'm used to back on the mainland. We split sweet potato fries which were equally delicious, as they are fried in organic coconut oil which I had never experienced food fried in it, but I do use it for cooking myself. Just perfect seared opah in a pita with delicious, fresh, crispy veggies and a incredible sauce. The side salad was fresh and the daily dressing was perfect. A blend of strawberries, mayo, vinegar, spices...unbelievably good. Other family members got the burger( super good) the falafel ( cooked in coconut oil so it has a tropical flair) and the kekei plate fried fish. Yes, it's on the expensive side for lunch, but cheap as far as dinner goes. Price is relative on Kauai, all food is expensive here as far as I can tell. I saw a 7.95 milkshake at one place!! I stopped here almost by accident. Went to see Opaeka'a Falls then checked Yelp and found the Hawaiian Village of Kamokila where George's food truck is. I had the Ono fish sandwich is was great! I also had a Hawaiian shaved ice and it was equally good. You could have made two meals out of the fish sandwich. The fish was hot and crispy and the flavor with the wasabi and kimchi was just right! We couldnt wait to try it and were staying right in Kilauea (seems he may have moved now ;-) ) Our first attempt at getting our grub on was foiled by a so-Hawaiian "gone surfing, be back at 5ish" sign on the truck. We had the ono burger (husband felt there was too much going on) I had the chicken gyro and the kids had chicken and fries and fish and fries. The fries were very good though. Drinks can only be purchased from inside the park so bring your own if you dont want to go in there. Very tasty burgers and fries, and very friendly proprietors. Covered area with picnic tables available to enjoy your lunch. Lots of chickens and peacocks in the area that will mooch. Some of the peacocks are a bit overly aggressive ( snatched fries right out of our one year old grand daughter's hand), so don't be shy when shooing them away: they do respond to loud sounds. Don't feed any of them, unless you want pals hovering over you for the rest of your lunch. They are down in Kamokila Village. I believe that you can eat at this lunch truck without having to pay the Village entrance fee, but check with the Kamokila folks. Would go down there again, just for the food! read more

We picked up two regular size lamb gyros today and they were great! So filling! I've have gyros in many other cities, and these measure up just great. I got full about three quarters of the way through my gyro but couldn't stop eating it until I finished it. The place is small and a little hard to find, so remember it's near the fire station and laundromat south of the old Food Land. I don't know if this is a regular thing, but our orders included a dolmade. Haven't had one in years and it was sooo good. George was great, too. You have to try it.
