I hired Yonemura Sushi Catering for my Dad's surprise birthday dinner for 10 people in Hanalei and I cannot say enough great things about the service they provide. Steve was extremely responsive and very flexible with finding a price that worked for us. He set up a menu for us and gave us multiple options to choose from. On the night of the event they showed up on time and brought all of their own dishes and equipment. They were very friendly and chatted with my family and me throughout their dinner prep. The food was incredible. We started with edamame, which to be honest when I first saw it on the menu I thought "eh, alright. Edamame. Pretty typical sushi starter." But boy was I wrong! The edamame was insanely good. The best I have ever had. It was cooked to perfection and the seasoning was delicious. We also had calamari and our third appetizer (yes we had 3 full appetizers) was Ahi Poke. The calamari was delicious and the poke was definitely the best we had on the island. When setting up the dinner I told Steve that my sister was pregnant so they went out of their way to cook the Ahi in hers so she could still eat with us. It was great we all stole a few bites of hers! We then had a huge round of sushi and every single roll was delicious. Sushi is my dad's favorite food, which is part of the reason I decided to go with Yonemura for his dinner and we were not disappointed. My dad said it was some of the best sushi he has had in his life and my entire family felt the same way. Steve even made us extra sushi and left it in the fridge for us, which we ate immediately the next day. Our main course was Kalua pork sliders with lilikoi bbq sauce and, just like everything else we ate, they were incredible. And Steve saved the best for last, our desert was homemade chocolate macadamia nut gelato. It was heaven. We definitely could have eaten bowls of it. They even brought a small cake with a candle for my Dad. When we were finished they cleaned everything up and even hung around for a little bit to talk to us about the island and give us some recommendations. The first night we did a sushi delivery where a beautifully presented, high quality, and delicious platter of sushi was delivered. In one word..Steve and his delicious creations are AWESOME! We visited Kauai to get married, and Steve catered a small 8 person dinner for us early in the week, as well as our wedding party of 24 people at our rental house reception. First off, Steve is easy to talk to, easy to work with, and super nice for any event. Secondly, his creations are hands-down amazing. Our small dinner party was blown away by the quality of the food, all while working within our budget. We decided to ask for a menu around sushi, and that was the best choice for us. The poke was the best all 8 of us have ever tasted, and the Marlin sashimi was a surprise hit for us, mostly because none of us had ever had it before! Unfortunately I only took one picture (with my phone) but I will include it here anyway to show how good it was :) There was so much food, and we all went to bed happy with stomachs full of the best food. Steve and his wife are also so thoughtful, since they knew I was getting married a few days later, they brought a bottle of bubbly for us to celebrate with! It is hard to find someone who is as kind as they are talented but working with Steve for our intimate wedding was such a joy and pleasure and now We have a great friend to visit whenever we return to Kauai. Steve was so professional and helpful while planning our event from the mainland. I joked to many of my guests that he was "my rock" because I knew I had someone I could rely on from afar. Let me preface this review by saying that we choose Kauai as the place my best friend and I would get married. Steve and his lovely wife arrived promptly and quickly set up and prepared for our pending culinary adventure...... and what an adventure it was!! We have a bunch of "foodies" in our group so listening to Steve's knowledge of local fish and ingredients was amazing. How was the meal? All I can say is it was so much better than I ever expected. We are so incredibly happy that we had Steve (Yonemura) and his wife Lynell cater our Mom's surprise 70th birthday dinner!! Two words: phenomenal and amazing! Every single person in my family absolutely loved the tasty creations and our mom was so thrilled!! With a large group of 22 of us, he made an awesome array of appetizers that were all so delicious and the presentation was fantastic too. (Crispy calamari, gyoza, edamame, poke, & udon noodle soup for the kids). The next course was just as fantastic. (Sushi rolls: tuna with seared ahi, crispy and hot soft shell crab with ahi tuna on top, avocado rolls and veggie cucumber rolls with seaweed). The sauces Steve made for each roll and appetizer were so delicious! Then, the macadamia nut crusted opa was out of this world! The steamed rice was a nice compliment to such a delicious fish. Again, everyone including the kids loved the fish and how it was so uniquely prepared. Dessert of chocolate gelato with crushed macadamia nuts was divine and a big hit too. We had an August 28 Wedding Celebration. The only request the Bride and Groom had was Sushi! I first contacted Steve and unfortunately they were unavailable. After looking into different options on the island it looked like the Bride & Groom's wish wouldn't happen. I contacted Steve again and asked if he had any other recommendations. He said let me get back to you. He called back with awesome news. Lynell's parents agreed to fly in so they could help. You cannot do better than to have Yoshi and David prepare dinner for you. They came to our condo in Princeville and prepared a wonderful, delicious welcome dinner for 18. The dinner started with a wonderful assortment of sushi, presented on a sushi boat and replenished all evening. This was followed by salad (wonderfully fresh greens and delicious Kochujang dressing), chicken, steak, baked walu fish, macaroni salad, and lilikoi chiffon pie for dessert. Food was locally sourced and incredibly fresh. Dishes were prepared in our kitchen, giving us the chance to chat, watch, and admire. This made the dinner a leisurely feast, giving everyone a chance to visit and enjoy being pampered. Yoshi and David were so easy to work with, responding to emails or phone calls promptly, and accommodating changes with good grace - even a last minute change of date! When they learned of any dietary needs, they adapted special servings of food for that person. They left some uncooked fish fillets and steak for us, plus leftovers, so we had two more dinners (with some supplementation). The five star Yelp rating has the heading "As good as it gets!"
