We hired this chef and pre-paid him over $15k for a private dinner and were very displeased with the entire execution the day of. The chef, his waitstaff, and overall professionalism unfortunately was very poor. Our event team worked really hard to communicate with the chef and we were very disappointed when he only showed up 60 minutes prior to the dinner starting, cooking in a building where cooking was prohibited, some of his waitstaff was being careless reckless and arrogant with our rented wine glassware, threw away prepared food in our faces and did not serve the full courses we paid for. On top of all that, literally the only thing ready to go was the salad that was on the tables already....the food was not even portioned out or ready and not everyone even got to eat at all. This was so disappointing because he came highly recommended, we vetted him, heard nothing but great things, and it just took a left turn on the day of the event. When we tried to contact him to discuss the aftermath, safe to say we were ghosted completely and he obviously didn't care because he was already paid....we felt scammed. Maybe he just didn't like us but that shouldn't have mattered when we had already signed a contract and paid you 30+ days in advance, so this was not a last minute request either. Hope this does not happen to anyone else...I'm posting this and chalking it up to hope he was just having a bad day and with the hopes that the chef and his team have improved since then. Chef Gil is a very humble business professional and cook. He's also very busy dealing with all kinds of clients. We were recommended by a friend to utilize Chef Gil. Overall, the food prepared by him and his staff was good. However, the customer service was disappointing. After spending more than $3000 on this catering service, we expected better products and at least some follow up. Chef Gil promised us acrylic plates but we got paper plates. Chef Gil promised us that he would show up 1 hour and 30 minutes prior to our event to begin preparing, his team showed up less than 1 hour prior to our event. His team overcooked/ burned the french dipped sliders. They also, allowed the cheese sauce to boil over in the pots... both causing smoke to circulate through the house. Chef Gil arrived 15-25 minutes after his team and he stayed at our house for all of 30 minutes. Chef Gil told me he was leaving 'to get something at the store' about 10 minutes prior to when our event was supposed to start, he never returned. He didn't call, text, or even email us to determine how we felt about the food and his service. Nothing, no follow up. Our event started 45 minutes late because the food wasn't ready on time as planned and discussed with Chef Gil for months. I attempted to call and text him for days & weeks afterwards, but I couldn't get him on the phone. I didn't want to leave a review at all, but I am since it seems he is too busy to call me back. Again, we spent over $3000 on this catering service and believe it could have been much better customer service, follow up, and correcting the items I mentioned above. Overall, the food was good but be prepared to deal with a Chef who's very busy and involved with multiple projects. For our next event, we'll order catering from our local favorite restaurant in order to have some delicious food cooked and prepared on time and only pay a fraction of what Chef Gil charges. We booked a tasting with this vendor who gave us info on how tasting would go last minute. we paid immediately for the tasting and on day of the tasting he never showed up. We gave him an hour and a half to show up and never did he once reach out that he was running behind. We ended up canceling our tasting so he never cooked for us or provided us with any cooked or uncooked food. My in laws specifically came to town to do this tasting who live 5 hours away. when I asked for my money back ($200) he said he would give me only $150 back because he already bought the food.I requested that he give me my entire payment back but he refused. I protested it with my credit card company and still have not been able to get my money back. This man took money from us that we could use towards our wedding. I'm sure he knows how expensive everything is since I know he is engaged himself and planning a Wedding. Seems like if you're not a famous football player Chef Gil won't respect your time or money! We had the pleasure of working with Chef Gil for our wedding. We were really impressed with the amount of attention and responsiveness Chef Gil provided throughout the planning process. He custom tailored a meal for our guests based on our interests and what WE enjoyed. This is a much more personal experience than going with other caterers who have static menu options to choose from. Chef Gil also was incredibly reasonable in his pricing plans. Last minute changes to our meal plan (adding different types of glassware, etc) were not an issue. Everything turned out great. I wanted to be able to leave at least a 4 star review, but since Chef Gil and his team just wasn't prepared for a large wedding, I can't. Chef Gil catered our wedding of approx. 165-170 guests. With that being said, you can imagine it is very important that all parties involved know exactly what they are doing and are honest about their intentions from the beginning of planning and day of the wedding. As a professional, you should probably find out from the venue if you can cook on site or not. I guess he thought you could because he had worked the venue before. Guess what, you couldn't cook on site at that venue and that was discovered the day of our wedding. It took a very long time for all of our guests to receive their dinner. I'm not even sure everyone stayed to eat. It was upsetting for several reasons, but mostly I don't even know if people think about the stress of planning a wedding and how special a wedding day truly is. The bar Hanovers in Round Rock, that is now associated with Chef Gil, was clueless and unprepared as well. It's a long story that I decided is probably too long for leaving a review, but trust me when I say I didn't appreciate or need the added stress or surprise before and during my wedding. The CFO of Hanovers, in Round Rock, will try and rip you off regarding the alcohol. If your venue requires insurance, don't book Chef Gil because then you are forced to use Hanover's Bar Staff. Trust me you will not want to deal with her or their staff. I ended up handing the reins over to my mother-in-law because I would have completely, and excuse my language, been a total bitch if I had to deal with her any longer. Our wedding was still beautiful and I think the guests enjoyed themselves, but for the expense of having a formal dinner, look elsewhere. I could have used a caterer from our wedding planner, but I had already booked Chef Gil since a friend recommended them.I still could have pulled in the beginning, but the red flags didn't appear until a few weeks before. It was too late to book another caterer, but trust me I would have. I was on the fence of leaving a review all together because I don't like to leave bad reviews for small business professionals. Especially when recommended by a friend, but you know what, I didn't want another couple to have to experience what we did. It's one thing to mess up and it's another thing to do so and not even apologize or offer some kind of a refund. Instead there was attitude and an additional charge on my mother-in-law's card after the fact. We hired Chef Gil Catering for a few of our board meetings and personal outings when I was the manager for a national nonprofit organization and the food & service was incredible! He made sure to arrive early every time and assist with setup and organization of the meals. He also made sure all of my questions and concerns were answered before leaving. We had quite a few board members rave about the food each time, which made me realize he was definitely the right man for the job. The best dish from EVERYONE was the mixed greens salad with homemade strawberry vinaigrette! Delicious! I had such a wonderful experience with Chef Gil that he has already been hired on as our caterer for my upcoming wedding of 200.
