Catering Made Simple was, without question, the most stressful, unprofessional, and disappointing vendor of my entire wedding. What makes it worse is that the owner chose coercion over accountability -- attempting to pressure me into deleting my review before even agreeing to speak with me. That alone should tell you how they handle their mistakes. I posted multiple public notices tagging them and gave them a deadline -- Friday, September 26 at 12:00 PM -- to reach out and make things right. Despite several attempts, they ignored every one. Planning Failures: Our contract clearly stated a plated dinner, and I provided a detailed color-coded diagram with guest names, allergies, and meal choices weeks in advance. Despite this, staff insisted it was a buffet while we were lined up for our ceremony. I had to walk into the reception in my gown minutes before walking down the aisle to correct them. Because of their confusion and refusal to listen, our ceremony was delayed -- critical time lost as we were already working around rain. Execution Failures: We paid for full cake service, but utensils were missing, and flimsy tools from a décor box labeled "Do not use" were handed to us. Our cake, made by a close friend, was ruined when staff shoved a fragile custom topper -- still in its frame -- into the cake, splitting the top tier. One staff member even called it "cheap." They also failed to provide the highboy table we paid for and placed our cake awkwardly in the back of the dessert table. Guest Service Failures: Staff hovered over tables and repeatedly asked guests if they were finished. My own half-eaten meal was cleared while I was in the restroom, leaving me hungry at my own wedding. When I asked for water, I was escorted to the bar instead of being served. Professionalism & Accountability: My coordinator was harassed to the point of tears, and staff even threatened to pull me aside during the reception to complain about her. The owner, Greg, was present all night, saw me address problems directly, and never once spoke to me or apologized. Instead, he posted defensive public comments and tried to coerce me into removing my review. The only positive: the food was warm, tasty, and as expected from the tasting -- but that's where the good ends. The impact on our wedding was significant: * Our ceremony was delayed. * My coordinator was harassed. * Our cake -- lovingly made by a friend -- was ruined. * Guests felt uncomfortable. * I was left hungry. * The owner refused to take responsibility. To top it all off, I have since been blocked from a major Chicago wedding vendor group -- likely due to a complaint from Catering Made Simple -- instead of them engaging in constructive dialogue. I found them on a Google search trying to find somewhere that would accommodate vegan options, as I (and several of my guests) are plant -based. I was thrilled reading reviews from others experience with Chef Ravi and The Chic Chef Team and decided to reach out. Their website is every easy to navigate and their food options were exactly what we were looking for. They were so accommodating while I started the planning process 100% remotely while living in California, and experienced some delays with the pandemic era. We had to scale down quite a bit from our original plan, make necessary adjustments and they were able to reconfigure our menu and options to fit our final needs. The email communication and assurance Chic Chef provided to my groom and I was excellent, and eased our minds while having to delay and rest assured being able to utilize Chic Chef after postponing. We did a tasting the week before our Big Day, and we were so glad we made the drive for it! Having a chance to meet Chef Ravi and see the creations in person and chat on our vision was such a great experience. As soon as we had the tasting, we booked with Chic Chef immediately and didn't even try any other caterers it was that good. They met with my venue to do a final walk through a few weeks before the wedding. Day of, everything was executed flawlessly. The food was SO good. From the passed appetizers, salad, bread options, and entrees- everything was amazing. We got so many compliments from our guests raving that it was the best food they ever had at a wedding. About a year ago I hired Girl And The Kitchen. I had a long intro call with Mila to discuss our likes, dislikes and nutrition goals and then she assigned us a chef based on our needs. We had our first chef for about a month and knew right away it wasn't a good fit. Her food was beyond salty and then one week she "forgot" to cook for us....and that was the end of that. And then Mila introduced us to Christine who has been cooking for us for an entire year now. Her food is really good (think 95% of her meals have been hits over the past year), she's lovely to menu plan with and extremely flexible. We do a combo of her recipes and ones I find that I gave her and all is great. We look forward to her food every Monday and literally eat it for every lunch and dinner for the week. My kids usually start complaining around Wednesday that they are sick of the 3ish entrees/sides she made so I'll usually make them pasta or a frozen meal at that point, but it works really well for my husband and I all week long. This is probably the priciest of the meal services/chefs I've used thru the years, but also the most customized. It costs $95/hr for the private cheffing fee and I ask her to limit it to 3 hours - or tell me ahead of time if it's going to be longer than that. From there there's a service fee, grocery shopping fee and then it's the cost of groceries. They are also willing to do your grocery shopping while there, but I find it easier just to instacart all the snacks and other items we need for the week. Christine drops the food off every Monday. I know many clients prefer the chefs to cook in their house, but I personally like the drop off service since I'm working from home and already feel like i have too many people in my house on a daily basis. You can also use them to cook for private parties. We've done that once for Passover and the food was great, although it was much pricier than takeout from local restaurants so I'll likely save for special occasions in the future.
