I also learned that I lack serious talent in the kitchen (as my kids will tell you) so I've always been on a hunt for different meal plan services to make my life easier and tastier. About a year ago I hired Girl And The Kitchen. I had a long intro call with Mila to discuss our likes, dislikes and nutrition goals and then she assigned us a chef based on our needs. We had our first chef for about a month and knew right away it wasn't a good fit. Her food was beyond salty and then one week she "forgot" to cook for us....and that was the end of that. And then Mila introduced us to Christine who has been cooking for us for an entire year now. Her food is really good (think 95% of her meals have been hits over the past year), she's lovely to menu plan with and extremely flexible. We do a combo of her recipes and ones I find that I gave her and all is great. We look forward to her food every Monday and literally eat it for every lunch and dinner for the week. My kids usually start complaining around Wednesday that they are sick of the 3ish entrees/sides she made so I'll usually make them pasta or a frozen meal at that point, but it works really well for my husband and I all week long. This is probably the priciest of the meal services/chefs I've used thru the years, but also the most customized. It costs $95/hr for the private cheffing fee and I ask her to limit it to 3 hours - or tell me ahead of time if it's going to be longer than that. From there there's a service fee, grocery shopping fee and then it's the cost of groceries. They are also willing to do your grocery shopping while there, but I find it easier just to instacart all the snacks and other items we need for the week. Christine drops the food off every Monday. I know many clients prefer the chefs to cook in their house, but I personally like the drop off service since I'm working from home and already feel like i have too many people in my house on a daily basis. You can also use them to cook for private parties. We've done that once for Passover and the food was great, although it was much pricier than takeout from local restaurants so I'll likely save for special occasions in the future. The variety of food choices she supplied us to pick from weekly as well as making many dishes we asked for was wonderful, there was nothing she was not able to make for us. The food was delivered to our home in individual containers for all the different food selections which we would then warm up in the mirco-wave accordingly. The food was fresh and cooked perfectly. She provided the receipts for all the purchases each week and the pricing for her services were more than fair. Once the menu was selected, the Chef handled the food shopping. Our dinner party consisted of 9 people--5 had steak, 2 had chicken and the other two people chose fish.  The Chef also prepared side dishes of a potato stack, mushrooms, asparagus and green beans.  In addition, we requested appetizers--a charcuterie board and an apricot/maple sausage flatbread.  The appetizers were exceptional and everyone enjoyed them.  The dinner preparation was exceptional---sous chef Jasmine and chef Gerard were able to prepare all dinners in a kitchen he had never seen.   Gerard and Jasmine worked effectively as a team and took time to interact with us answering questions about their work. The meal ended with a strawberry shortcake topped with ice cream and was the perfect desert after our meal.  Chef Gerard and Sous Chef Jasmine cleaned the dishes/kitchen before departing. Who would have thought a year later we would still be uncomfortable dining indoors. There's been a few silver linings during this pandemic and Mr. Hibachi Catering is one of them because hibachi in the comfort of our own garage was way more fun than any past dinners at Ron of Japan. We kept it covid safe and invited just my sister-in-law and her family. 4 of us adults and our 5 kids ranging in ages from 3-10 years old. It was so delicious and so fun for the kids that my sister-in-law and I have decided Mr. Hibachi Catering will be our go to for every future holiday. Passover with Mr. Hibachi! Thanksgiving with Mr. Hibachi! Basically we're up for any excuse to hire Mr. Hibachi! We learned that there's actually 4 Mr. Hibachis and the one who came to our house (with his trusty sidekick) was not only an amazing cook, but also had lots of fun tricks to entertain the kids. We ordered everything from chicken to lobster to shrimp to steak...and it was all so tasty! I considered adding a sushi boat to our order, but held off...which was a good call since it was a ton of food. They bring everything: food, tables, plates, silverware etc. All we had to supply was beverages and guests...and (of course) bday cake. It's also super easy to book online and they respond very fast to all email inquiries. It's been 3 days and my kids and husband have mentioned at least a dozen times about how much fun the bday dinner was...thank you Mr. Hibachi! I hope this is something that sticks around post pandemic...
