Spent a weekend here in January and again in April. Some parts of the park were closed for the season. Nevertheless, the spent here was enjoyable. Posatives: Great setting; wooded areas as well as open areas. Two lodges, two large swimming pools, mini golf, kids climer, Bball court, etc... Water and Power at most sites. Several shower/bathroom buildings. Some areas have great views of the valley. Negatives: Limited sites with sewer hook-ups, can't be reserved. (mostly overtaken by full-timers) While you can make reservations you cannot reserve specific sites. Several sites are in disrepair (but it is apparent that they are making renovations and upgrades) Not near any major attractions. Others: No wifi Conclusions: Great place to spend a weekend and pehaps even a week. We have stayed here a couple times. It's been awhile. We have reservations this week. We drove up to get a look at things again and pick out some fav sites to see if we can get them on check in later this week. Grounds were clean. Grounds up keep was neat. Both lodges were clean and nicely stocked. Most importantly, when we checked in, we had the most friendly Ranger : Jan. She was fantastic. Making sure we had what we needed, knew our way around, supplied us with an updated map and such friendly and welcoming conversation. She was a true example of what all staff should be like. We have been to Chehalis 3 times and have enjoyed our experience there each time. Checkin was easy, staff friendly. We were worried that arriving on Saturday was going to make it more difficult to find a good site. We found a 50 amp with shade with some privacy. Chehalis is closer to the park however Centralia has more to offer such as restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. The park is close enough to take a day trip to Mount St Helens and the Visitors Center. Worth a drive up to the observation center and walk through the museum to learn all about the eruption and people who lost their lives. The explosive power of the volcanic is jaw dropping, The park itself has great events for families on the weekends. We rode our bikes everyday that we were there on the park roads the trail around the park. Enjoyed being able to do this right on site. Some of the single track sections of the trail were a bit overgrown. The park has a huge dog park and always had bags available. Main complaint with the dog park are those staying at park that don't pickup after their pets. We like camping in the forest and this one checked that box. read more

TL; DR: We left a day early , no reason to go back. The good: lots of nature and very large park. Lots of planned activities and live music. Two lodges, two pools. Some sites have beautiful views . They have a free dump station and propane for sale. Store is overpriced but has basics. The bad : Thousand Trails policy creates lots of problems that extend to this park . While reservations are required , all spots are first-come-first-served, which means there is not guarantee that a site will be available to accommodate your rig. There is also no guarantee that a site will have hookups. This is a large park, with many sites, so from the map, it looks great. What you don't know until you get there is that many of the full hookup sites are purchased annual sites with a permanent RV in place . Because people do not check into specific sites, there is no staff oversight . Campers can easily use two sites or block a neighbor site. While many of the facilities are nice, many need to be updated. My kids wanted to play billiards, but the lodge stunk terribly. They have a basketball court , tennis court , etc but no equipment for rent like other TT campgrounds. Our spot did not have a fire pit, glad we brought our own. The neutral: There is not much to do in town. The video on their website says they are a short drive to Chehalis, where there are presumably fun things to do. After a 28 min mostly unpaved drive, we got there to find everything is closed on Sundays . It is a very cute old town, almost untouched this century. However, we couldn't even find a restaurant open for lunch . Good for them for supporting small business and taking time off, but good to know when planning a trip. read more

Tent spots are great. Secluded and quiet. Lodge and pool short walk, and fun. Spent two nights there with 10 year old grandson, and we both had a great time. Staff friendly and helpful. read more

I take my grandson there most every year, and we always have a great time. The tent spots are in a secluded area, and pretty quiet. The grandson loves the pool. We did not go last year, but are headed there in July for or second trip this year. read more

This Thousand Trails needs major improvements. Front gate staff are friendly and helpful, but that's about all this park has going for it. It is summer time so crowds are understandable, but the mobs of unsupervised children running a muck in the public areas (lodges/pool/parking lot) is OUT OF CONTROL. Bathrooms and showers are filthy and need to be maintained better throughout the day. What was once an adult lodge has been over run by families and unsupervised children screaming uncontrollably running wild. Rangers need to make themselves more present and corporate needs to pump in the cash to bring this place up to par. Do better Thousand Trails Chehalis, do better. read more

This is one of our favorite Thousand Trails campgrounds. The sites are pretty, with plenty of vegetation between campsites, and enough room to sit in one's campsite and enjoy the trees and nature. There is a very nice pool, a lot of sites, and an off-leash dog run, as well as a large field at one end, which had been freshly mowed the last time we were here. The campground is well-kept, clean, and orderly. Even though the last time we were here was in the middle of August, all the campers were respectful of the rules, and the noise is minimal.
